George Groves faces David Brophy this Saturday

groves9By Scott Gilfoid: Former three-time world title challenger loser George Groves (22-3, 17 KOs) will be fighting his stepping stone opponent David Brophy (16-0-1, 1 KOs) this Saturday night in a scheduled 12 round fight for the vacant WBA International super middleweight title on the undercard of the Anthony Joshua vs. Charles Martin card at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

The fight card will be televised on Sky Box Office PPV for the fans interested in shelling out cash to see it.

It’s one of those cards where boxing fans will have to make up their minds whether they feel that the main event between Joshua and Martin is worth paying to see because the undercard fights leave a lot to be desired in my view.

Hearn: Badou Jack won’t want to fight Callum Smith

smith4444By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn believes that WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (20-1-1, 12 KOs) isn’t going to want to mx it up with his fighter #1 WBC Callum Smith (19-0, 14 KOs) after his 1st round knockout win over Hadillah Mohoumadi (20-4-1, 15 KOs) last Saturday night in their fight at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK. Smith stopped the 35-year-old Mohoumadi with a flurry of heavy shots that caused referee Francisco Alloza Rosa to stop the fight at 1:41 of the round.

Badou has a title defense this month against #8 WBC Lucian Bute (32-3, 25 KOs) on April 30 at the DC Armory in Washington, DC. If Smith and Hearn wants a world title shot against the hard hitting 32-year-old Badou, then they’re going to need to put a sock in it and learn how to wait their turn. Smith will get his turn at fighting Badou, but he’s going to need to wait. All good things come in time.

Callum Smith destroys Hadillah Mohoumadi in 1st round

smith700By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBC Callum Smith (19-0, 14 KOs) made easy work of the over-ranked #6 WBC Hadillah Mohoumadi (20-4-1, 15 KOs) in stopping him in the 1st round on Saturday night to capture his EBU super middleweight title at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK. The fight was a WBC 168lb eliminator bout, so the 25-year-old Smith is now the WBC mandatory challenger to champion Badou Jack.

Smith hurt the 35-year-old Mohoumadi with an uppercut to the head. Smith then backed Mohoumadi up against the ropes and flurried with arm punches until referee Francisco Alloza Rosa stepped in and halted the fight at 1:41 with Mohoumadi still on his feet but looking very, very hurt.

Callum Smith vs. Hadillah Mohoumadi tonight

smith8888By Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated Callum Smith (18-0, 13 KOs) will be trying to add the EBU super middleweight title to his collection tonight in his fight against EBU champion Hadillah Mohoumadi (20-3-1, 15 KOs) at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK.

If Smith wins this fight, then it could be his last stop before he fights for a world title later this year against WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack if he wins his fight in April against Lucian Bute. Either way, Smith, 25, will be getting a title shot in 2016 if he can beat the aging 35-year-old Mohoumadi.

Callum Smith thinks Groves has a sense of entitlement

smith555By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBC Callum Smth (18-0, 13 KOs) will be facing EBU super middleweight champion Hadillah Mohoumadi (20-3-1, 15 KOs) this Saturday night at the Echo Arena, in Liverpool, UK. Smith should have no problems winning that fight because the 35-year-old Mohoumadi is a flawed fighter who hasn’t fought a recognizable opponent since his back to back defeats to James DeGale and Nikola Sjekloca four years ago.

Mohoumadi has been taking it easy since then fighting fodder opposition. Smith thinks that #2 WBC George Groves (22-3, 17 KOs) has a sense of entitlement that he should be fighting for another world title having to earn the shot.

Groves has lost in his only three attempts at winning a world title in losing twice to Froch and once to Badou Jack. Groves is hoping to soon get another world title if he can get past domestic level fighter David Brophy in their fight on April 9 on the undercard of the Anthony Joshua vs. Charles Martin fight on Sky box Office at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Groves’ appeal against Callum Smith – Hadillah Mohoumadi WBC eliminator rejected

groves677By Scott Gilfoid: In not too much of a surprise, #2 WBC George Groves’ appeal for the World Boxing Council super middleweight eliminator bout between #1 WBC Callum Smith (18-0, 13 KOs) and #6 WBC Hadillah Mohoumadi (20-3-1, 15 KOs) has been denied by the WBC.

Smith and the 35-year-old Mohoumadi will be fighting in a WBC 168lb title eliminator bout in less than two months on April 2 at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK. The winner of the Smith-Mohoumadi fight will be the WBC mandatory to champion Badou Jack.

Groves should have fought Callum Smith ages ago to get him out of the picture. If Groves had taken the Smith fight and beaten him already, then he wouldn’t have to worry about being passed up by him in his chase for a second fight against WBC champion Badou Jack.

Callum Smith vs. Hadillah Mohoumadi in WBC 168lb eliminator on April 2

smith555By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBC Callum Smith (18-0, 13 KOs) will be looking to lock himself into for a world title shot against WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack when he faces Hadillah Mohoumadi (20-3-1, 15 KOs) on April 2 in a WBC 168lb title eliminator at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK.

What I don’t understand is why in the heck is Smith being allowed to fight #7 WBC Mohoumadi in a WBC super middleweight eliminator when their are higher ranked contenders like #4 WBC Anthony Dirrell and #6 WBC Andre Dirrell that are getting passed over by the World Boxing Council. What’s up with that? It seems to me that one of the Dirrell brothers should be facing Callum for the WBC eliminator rather than the lower ranked Mohoumadi, who has largely fought obscure opposition during his career with the exception of his fight against James DeGale four years ago in 2012.

Hearn wants Groves for DeGale, Martin Murray or Callum Smith

George GrovesBy Scott Giloid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn is eager to setup a fight with one of his stable fighters in with the struggling #3 WBC George Groves (21-3, 16 KOs) in 2016 in order to take advantage of Groves’ popularity and ability to sell tickets.

You can also argue that Hearn smells blood in the water with Groves, as it’s painfully obvious that his career is sinking into the depths of the sea with his two losses to Carl Froch and his recent defeat at the hands of WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack last September.

Hearn wants Callum Smith to face Badou Jack or Groves next

hearn54By Scott Gilfoid: If Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn gets his way, #1 WBC Callum Smith (18-0, 13 KOs) will be facing either WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (20-1-1, 12 KOs) in his next fight or former three time world title challenger loser George Groves (21-3, 16 KOs). However, without the World Boxing Council’s assistance, Smith will likely need to wait until 2016 or even possibly 2017 before he faces the likes of Badou.

I can’t see Groves volunteering to fight a contender. I can see him volunteering to fight a world champion, but definitely not a mere contender who doesn’t have a huge following as of yet. But Smith would lose to Groves and Badou badly in my view. I’m just saying. Don’t come crying to me when Callum Smith gets royally whipped by those guys.
