Bryant Jennings; the dark horse of the division gets his chance

jennings4534By John Stevens: As you all know by now it has just been announced that Wladimir Klitschko will defend his titles against Philadelphia’s Bryant Jennings on April 25th

Some of the more ill-informed and ill-educated out there will doubtless be groaning about ‘another mismatch’ or ‘another easy fight for Klitschko’ – I would like to say to all those people; I think you better think again.

With all the media frenzy over golden boy Deontay Wilder these past few years, (and even more so in the wake of his WBC title victory the other night) another American heavyweight has been doing his work out there quietly and without fuss, racking up a very impressive resume against top quality opposition. Bryant Jennings is far, far more than just another opponent for Wladimir Klitschko – and there is no one more deserving of this opportunity.

Bryant Jennings is not going to beat Wladimir Klitschko, says Wilder

jennings4534By Allan Fox: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder spoke the obvious in giving his estimation of the slender, non-punching Bryant Jennings’ chances of beating IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (63-3, 53 KOs) in their fight on April 25th at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Wilder thinks the 6’3”, 225 pound Jennings is too weak and short to be able to deal with the power and the reach of the 6’6” Klitschko. But interestingly enough, Jennings has a long reach than Wladimir by three inches so it’s possible in theory that Jennings could have some success in at least making contact with Wladimir.

The two sides had been locked into the negotiations for quite a long time despite having agreed to the financial deal last December. Shannon Briggs’ name had been floated as a potential opponent for the 38-year-old Wladimir if the Jennings fight failed to take place. Thankfully, that won’t be happening.

Klitschko-Jennings negotiations have stalled

klitschko123By Scott Gilfoid: The negotiations for the fight between IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (63-3, 53 KOs) and unbeaten #3 WBC, #6 IBF Bryant Jennings (19-0, 10 KOs) has reportedly stalled for some reason.

They were supposed to be facing each other on April 25th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Wladimir’s management are now considering Shannon Briggs or possibly the winner of the January 17th fight between WBC champion Bermane Stiverne and Deontay Wilder as the replacement opponent if the Jennings fight can’t be negotiated.

Wladimir Klitschko to fight on 4/25 at Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York

wladimir34322By Allan Fox: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (63-3, 53 KOs) will be returning to the ring in the next four months to defend his title against either unbeaten Bryant Jennings (19-0, 10 KOs) or Shannon Briggs (57-6-1, 50 KOs) on April 25th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The fight will be televised by HBO. This will be Wladimir’s 18th title defense, and it’s expected to be a very winnable one whether he’s facing Jennings or Briggs. Wladimir could face Shannon Briggs if Jennings fight doesn’t take place

wladimir76By Scott Gilfoid: If IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (63-3, 53 KOs) is unable to negotiate a fight against unbeaten #2 WBA, #3 WBC, #5 WBO, #8 IBF Bryant Jennings (19-0, 10 KOs) in the early part of 2015, then Klitschko will wind up facing the 43-year-old Shannon Briggs (57-6-1, 50 KOs), according to Fightnews.com.

The Klitschko-Briggs or Klitschko-Jennings fights will take place in New York, and will be televised on HBO. Wladimir’s manager Bernd Bonte says that Briggs will be the backup plan if the Jennings fight doesn’t get made.

There’s no reason for the Jennings-Klitschko fight not to get made, however, because it’s unlikely that Jennings’ management are going to make it difficult to put the fight together. Jennings and his team obviously feel confident about their man’s chances of beating the 38-year-old Wladimir, and all they need is a chance to fight him so they can take his straps.
