Brook: I’m going to show Devon Alexander why I’m the ‘Special One’

brook3243By Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) will be fighting for the IBF welterweight world title on February 23rd against champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) at the Joe Louis Arena, in Detroit, Michigan. Brook sees a victory for himself as his destiny.

Brook said to Sky Sports News “I’m going to show him – and the world – why people call me the Special One. it’s destiny, it’s just meant to be…I’ve got to do whatever it takes to win, whether that’s make it a dogfight or a technical fight.”

Brook to Alexander: I’m taking that IBF title from you on February 23rd

brook123By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) seems to have inherited a little too much self-confidence from some of his fellow Brit fighters because he’s approaching his February 23rd title challenge against highly skilled and talented IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) as if the win is a forgone conclusion instead of a hope and a prayer, as it should be for Brook. He’s going to be fighting away from the safe confines of England on February 23rd and instead it’s going to be in Detroit, Michigan, at the Joe Louis Arena.

Brook thinks a lot of Brits are going to be willing to shell a lot of their hard-earned cash to fly over from the UK just to see. I kind of doubt it. I’m sure there will be a few Brook fanatics that will make the trip, but enough to where their singing and horn blowing will help change the course of events in the ring on that night in the very, very cold Detroit.

Alexander: I want to give Brook a beating and make a statement

alexander342By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) plans on giving unbeaten British challenger #1 IBF Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) a royal beating in their fight on February 23rd at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan. Although this isn’t a home fight for the 25-year-old Alexander, he expects a lot of his fans will be driving over from St. Louis, Missouri to see him take on Brook and hand him his first loss.

Alexander said in an interview with boxingsocialist.com “I want to beat him [Brook] up. This is a statement fight for me. I don’t just box, I come forward. I do have some power. Kell Brook has got the European style where he stands straight up; he doesn’t move his head. He’s an average fighter, nothing special about him.”

Devon Alexander: There’s nothing special about Kell Brook

alexander23By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) took some time out recently to pour over some of the fights of his opponent Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) for February 23rd, and Alexander came away disappointed in the talent level of Brook as well as his poor opposition. When Alexander saw Brook’s glossy record and heard all the hype about him, he was expecting to see a really talented fighter but when he sat down and watched him fight, Alexander didn’t see anything in his game that he feels will give him trouble.

Alexander said to thesun.co.uk “There’s nothing special about him at all…Brook doesn’t have the quality or the experience to beat me…There are no real names on his record, in his career he hasn’t fought anybody like me at all. The one test that he did have was Carson Jones and he was fighting for his life at the end of that fight.”

Brook vs. Alexander heading to Detroit in late February or early March

alexander45By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) and his British opponent Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) will be landing in Detroit in either February or March, according to LA Times writer Lance Pugmire.

Pugmire said on his twitter “Devon Alexander-Brook fight going to Detroit along with K9-Ishe Smith in late Feb-early March, possibly at Fox Theater, [Richard] Schaefer tells me.”

Like the previous venue [Los Angeles] that the Brook-Alexander fight was mentioned as taking place, Detroit will be a neutral venue whether neither fighter has an advantage of a disadvantage. I’m still trying to figure out why Golden Boy Promotions will be putting the fight there because it doesn’t make sense at all. Who is going to want to show up to see Alexander and Brook fight in Detroit?

Brook with ankle problem, fight with Alexander could get pushed back

Image: Brook with ankle problem, fight with Alexander could get pushed backBy Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook’s scheduled January 19th fight with IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) could get pushed back into February due to Brook suffering an ankle injury during training for the fight. The fight will be taking place at the Nokia Theater, in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told RingTV “We might have to push back that fight from January 19th, because I think there is something wrong with Kell Brook’s ankle. They’re going to get it checked out.”

Brook vs. Alexander on January 19th at the Nokia Theater, in Los Angeles, CA

Image: Brook vs. Alexander on January 19th at the Nokia Theater, in Los Angeles, CABy Scott Gilfoid: The January 19th fight between Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) and IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) finally has a venue after weeks of searching around. The fight will be staged at the Nokia Theater, in Los Angeles, California, USA.

This means that the fight will effectively be taking place in a neutral venue, as the 25-year-old Alexander doesn’t have a fan base there despite being from the United States. Alexander’s fans are in his home city of Saint Louis, Missouri. However, that still doesn’t give Brook any kind of advantage in this fight.

Alexander vs. Brook on January 19th, at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas

Image: Alexander vs. Brook on January 19th, at the MGM Grand, in Las VegasBy Scott Gilfoid: The January 19th fight between IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) and British challenger Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KOs) is heading for the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada rather than Alexander’s home city of Saint Louis, Missouri, according to espn.

It’s not all that surprising that the fight won’t be staged in St. Louis because I figured that Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport would make a fuss about wanting the fight to take place in a neutral venue due to the controversy of Alexander’s wins over Lucas Matthysse, Andriy Kotelnik which took place in St. Louis.

Brook vs. Alexander: Is “Special K” ready to take on the World?…

Image: Brook vs. Alexander: Is "Special K" ready to take on the World?...Across the UK anticipation is growing that we could quite possibly have the genuine article after years of waiting. Ricky Hatton, Junior Witter and Amir Khan have all failed to succeed at the very elite level, and now we have a new hope about to enter the world stage – Kell Brook.

Brook has learned his trade the hard way, earning the coveted Lonsdale belt before working his way up the rankings. Unbeaten in 29 fights and rarely troubled Brook appears to be the complete package. He has power, speed, timing and (unlike Khan) a chin, and as proved in the Jones fight the metal to dig deep when required. Unlike some of his British counterparts, Brook has not had a sugar coated career and has been under the radar working hard towards his goal – world honours.

Alexander vs. Brook: Devon ready to take advantage of Kell’s lack of experience

Image: Alexander vs. Brook: Devon ready to take advantage of Kell's lack of experienceBy Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) will be making his first defense of his IBF strap against his #1 mandatory challenger Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) on January 19th in the United States in a still to be determined venue. Although the 26-year-old Brook has more fights on his resume compared to the 25-year-old Alexander the difference here is that Alexander has much more experience against quality opposition compared to Brook. It’s not even close.

Here are the well known fighters that Alexander has fought:
