Theophane: Mayweather is helping me with my game plan for Broner

broner100(Photo credit: Stephanie Trapp/Mayweather Promotions) By Jeff Aranow: Ashley Theophane (39-6-1, 11 KOs) is a huge underdog for his fight next month against WBA light welterweight champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (31-2, 23 KOs) on April 1 at the DC Armory in Washington, DC. The 35-year-old Theophane says he’s been receiving pointers from his promoter Floyd Mayweather Jr. in how to beat the 26-year-old Broner.

Maywether would know obviously because Broner’s boxing style is almost completely barrowed from Mayweather. Broner has adopted almost everything Mayweather does in the ring. It’s just that he does everything slower than Mayweather, and he’s not as mobile and probably never will be.

Mayweather talks to media after Broner leaves press conference

floyd433333By Chris Williams: An irritated looking Adrien Broner walked out of his press conference earlier on Monday when he was being asked to do pose for photos with challenger Ashley Theophane in their kickoff press conference at the W Hotel Washington, D.C. – Altitude Room.

Broner was supposed to stay and have more photos taken and give interviews to the media in order to build interest in his first title defense of his WBA 140lb belt against Theophane on April 1 at the DC Armory in Washington, DC.

After Broner took off, Floyd Mayweather Jr, the promoter for Theophane, was left to answer questions from the media about why Broner bailed on the press conference. Mayweather did his best job of being diplomatic and not throwing Broner under the bus for him having left his own press conference.

Broner: Mayweather is gone and I’m taking over the sport

broner100(Photo credit: Stephanie Trapp/Mayweather Promotions) By Chris Williams: In a little over a month from now, WBA light welterweight champion Adrien Broner (31-2, 23 KOs) makes his first defense of his WBA title against Ashley Theophane (39-6-1, 11 KOs) at the DC Armory, in Washington, DC.

The 26-year-old Broner said earlier today at his DC press conference that he sees himself as the replacement for Floyd Mayweather Jr. in taking over the sport of boxing. It’s unknown if Broner said this to get on the nerves of Mayweather or if he truly means it. Mayweather is Theophane’s promoter, and he was at the press conference with his fighter today.

It’s quite possible that Broner does believe that he’s going to be the one to take over boxing and carry the sport on his back for a decade or so until his replacement is discovered. Broner needs to beat Theophane in style on April 1, and then look to beat some of the higher caliber fighters at 140.

Adrien Broner predicts 4th round KO of Ashley Theophane

broner3(Photo credit: Stephanie Trapp/Mayweather Promotions) By Allan Fox: WBA light welterweight champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (31-2, 23 KOs) met with challenger Ashley Theophane (39-6-1, 11 KOs) on Monday in their kickoff press conference at the W Hotel Washington, D.C. Broner and Theophane met with the media to talk about their fight on April 1 on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike TV from the DC Armory, in Washington, District of Columbia.

Broner, 26, says he plans on making a statement on April 1 by knocking out the 35-year-old Theophane within four rounds or less. Broner says it’s going to be quick, and he doesn’t see any way that it could go beyond the fourth round. Broner wants to show the boxing world that he’s the replacement for Floyd Mayweather Jr. now that he’s retired from the sport.

Broner: Theophane is going to be a tough fight for me

broner1111By Scott Gilfoid: Earlier today, the fight between WBA light welterweight champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (31-2, 23 KOs) and the 2nd tier fighter Ashley Theophane (39-6-1, 11 KOs) was announced officially for April fool’s day on the 1st of that month for Premier Boxing Champions on Spike TV.

The fight will be taking place on a Friday, which is very rare for title fights, but somehow fitting for this mismatch. The fight will be taking place at the DC Armory in Washington, D.C. I’m not entirely why the fight will be staged over there, because Broner is from Cincinnati, Ohio and Theophane comes from England.

Adrien Broner faces Ashley Theophane at DC Armory in Washington, DC

Image: Adrien Broner faces Ashley Theophane at DC Armory in Washington, DCBy Allan Fox: The April 1st title defense by WBA World light welterweight champion Adrien Broner (31-2, 23 KOs) v Ashley Theophane (39-6-1, 11 KOs) will be taking place on a Friday at The DC Armory in Washington, DC.

With the fight taking place on a Friday night instead of on a Saturday, it gives you an idea of what kind of title defense it’ll be for Broner. It’s difficult to perceive it as a competitive affair because the 35-year-old Theophane hasn’t done much to earn the shot in the traditional manner.

Broner: I’m beating Theophane’s backside on April 1

Image: Broner: I'm beating Theophane's backside on April 1By Scott Gilfoid: WBA light welterweight champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (31-2, 23 KOs) is saying that he’s going to kick his over-matched opponent Ashley Theophane’s backside on April 1 in their fight in Washington, District of Columbia. Broner, 26, says it’s going to be fun against the 35-year-old Theophane (39-6-1, 11 KOs).

I guess it will be fun, but it’s not exactly sporting though. Theophane isn’t even ranked in the top 15 by the four sanctioning bodies, and he’s been beaten in the past by lesser fighters than Broner. Theophane has losses to Pablo Cesar Cano, Darren Hamilton, Ali Oubaali and Danny Garcia. Broner might be better than Garcia too.

Adrien Broner vs. Ashley Theophane confirmed for April 1 on Spike

broner5456By Dan Ambrose: In what has to be seen as disappointing news, WBA light welterweight champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner’s first defense of his WBA title has been confirmed against unranked second tier fighter Ashley Theophane (39-6-1, 11 KOs) for April 1 on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike TV, according to Fight News.

This is sad event in my view, because Theophane is not a top 15 ranked contender at 140, and it’s just really troubling that a mismatch like this could take place. The 35-year-old Theophane is with Mayweather Promotions, so that could be one of the reasons why the mismatch is being made.

Theophane: I can beat Adrien Broner

broner64By Scott Gilfoid: 35-year-old unranked British fighter Ashley Theophane (39-6-1, 11 KOs) is highly motivated for his potential world title shot against WBA light welterweight champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (31-2, 23 KOs) for their proposed fight in February or March of this year. Theophane wants to prove all the doubters wrong about him, and he wants to show the 26-year-old Broner that he’s not an “easy money” fight as he says on Twitter.

Broner wanted to be the one to face Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao for his next fight on April 9th on HBO pay-per-view, but instead Broner got passed over by Pacquiao’s 84-year-old promoter Bob Arum, who went with one of his own Top Rank stable fighters Tim Bradley for a third fight.

The fact that Arum was willing to put Pacquiao in with a fighter that the boxing public has zero interest in seeing was a knock on Broner, because he should have a high enough following to bring in more fans for a Pacquiao fight compared to a third painful to watch Pacquiao-Bradley fight.

Broner to take his frustrations out on Theophane after losing out on Pacquiao fight

1-LR_BRONERALLAKHVERDIEV-PRESSER-1805By Scott Gilfoid: WBA light welterweight champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (31-2, 23 KOs) got passed over for the Manny Pacquiao fight for April 9th, and he’s understandably not happy about it. Broner felt that he should have been the one to fight the 37-year-old Pacquiao, because he wanted to beat him and send him into retirement. I would have liked to have seen Broner and Pacquiao fight. That sure as heck would have been a good one.

Broner wants to take out his frustrations on 35-year-old Ashley Theophane (39-6-1, 11 KOs), a little known fighter whose claim to fame is that he’s one of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s fighters in his Mayweather Promotions stable. Other than Theophane being with Mayweather, there’s nothing in Theophane’s career that stands out.
