Saul Alvarez back in action in June, wants a top contender

By Eric Thomas: WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez (36-0-1, 26 KO’s) reportedly wants to get back in the ring fast and wants to fight in June against a top contender. Alvarez, who will be turning 21 on July 18th, wants to face the biggest names in the sport such as Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. However, those guys are probably not going to show any interest in fighting Alvarez until he becomes a much bigger name and starts looking more impressive. Alvarez defeated Matthew Hatton by a 12 round unanimous decision last weekend.

Dirrell says he’ll be fighting in 3 – 3 1/2 months

By Scott Gilfoid: Top super middleweight talent Andre Dirrell (19-1, 13 KO’s) says he’ll be back in the ring fighting in 3 to 3 1/2 months according to his twitter account. Dirrell, along with Andre Ward, are the two premier fighters in the super middleweight division. Dirrell hasn’t fought since being fouled last year by Arthur Abraham in the Super Six tournament.

The chances of that happening are about zero, because Murray isn’t ranked in the top 15 by the WBA, and isn’t well known enough in the United States for Rios to even consider facing him. And besides that, Murray would likely be in way over his head in a fight against Rios and the bout would likely be a dull mismatch with Rios destroying the slow-handed Murray.
