Hunter wants Berto to fight Soto Karass again

berto111By Allan Fox: Virgil Hunter, the trainer for former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (28-3, 22 KO’s), would like to see Berto get back in the ring and face Jesus Soto Karass (28-8-3, 18 KO’s) in Berto’s next fight rather than moving on to take a lesser opponent.

Berto was stopped in the 12th round by Soto Karass last month on July 27th at the AT&T Center, in San Antonio, Texas, USA. Hunter attributes a part of that loss to Berto injuring his right arm early in the fight.

Berto said after the bout that he had pulled his right arm out of the shoulder socket early in the fight, and had problems using it. The was pretty close at the time of the stoppage with one judge scoring it 105-103 for Berto, another 105-103 for Soto Karass and the third scoring it 104-104.

Andre Berto – Exposing Boxing “Star”

berto555By Payman Kohan: Many boxing fans and critics alike have agreed that professional boxing has produced its fair share of stars propped up and backed by big name promoters and news media. It’s only when those fighters are faced against opposition noteworthy of true high rank status, that the validity of their champion becomes certain.

After Andre Berto’s performance last night against Jesus Soto Karass, it is apparent that the spotlight is on him and his potential of reclaiming “stardom” or fading into the dark.

After a career having defeated some no name competition and a few that only true boxing aficionado’s would rank C at most, Andre Berto climbed his way up the Welterweight Division’s proverbial ladder, and became known as a dangerous rising star.

“Knockout Kings 2” What we learned!

thurman2332By Sotoman: Last night was a tremendous night of boxing.  The cards lived up to its name “Knockout Kings 2”.  The each fight was full of excitement and grueling back and forth exchanges.  there are several things we learned from yesterdays results.

1. Keith Thurman (21-0, 19 KO’s) will now be avoided, welcome to the world of “GGG”, Mr. One Time Thurman.

With his impressive win last night, Thurman displayed his heart and stamina in finding the late KO of Diego Chaves.  If anyone though Chaves was a walk in the park, I hope they saw differently after. Thurman fought through adversity for most of the fight and his constant pressure and boxing ability allowed him to find openings and tag the slow Chaves throughout the night, finally getting the KO 28 seconds into the 10th.

Berto says he separated his right shoulder

berto200By Allan Fox: Former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (28-3, 22 KO’s) was quick with the excuses last night after getting stopped in the 12th round by Jesus Soto Karass (28-8-3, 18 KO’s) at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas. Berto was dropped with a left hand by Soto Karass in the 12th and was too unsteady on his feet after he got back up for the fight to continue.

Berto said after the fight, “I think I tore it [his right shoulder] out of the socket early in the 4th round; my right shoulder. That’s why I kept using my left. I think I tore it out of the socket.I couldn’t use it at all, but I’m a warrior at the end of the day. I should have at least deserved an 8 count, but I’m going out on my shield regardless.”

Soto Karass stops Berto; Thurman defeats Chaves

berto111By Dan Ambrose: Jesus Soto Karass (28-8-3, 18 KO’s) may have ended former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto’s career tonight in stopping him in the 12th round at the AT&T Center, in San Antonio, Texas, USA. Soto Karass had been knocked down in the 11th round by a belt-line left to the body.

However, in the 12th round, Soto Karass caught Berto with a perfectly timed left hook to the head that dropped the 29-year-old Berto. To his credit, Berto got back to his feet, but because of how he staggered getting up, the referee halted the fight at 0:48 of the round. There was no way that Berto would have been able to survive the remainder of the round with as much that was remaining in the round.

Berto faces Soto Karass and Thurman battles Chaves tonight on Showtime

003 Berto and Soto Karass IMG_7474(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Allan Fox: Tonight is the make or break fight for former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (28-2, 22 KO’s) against Jesus Soto Karass (27-8-3, 17 KO’s) at the AT&T Center, in San Antonio, Texas, USA. The title that will be on the line tonight, the vacant NABF welterweight strap, tells you how far the 29-year-old Berto has slipped from the big time.

No longer fighting for major titles after losing two out of his last three fights, he’s now content with fighting over an obscure strap. If Berto loses tonight to Soto Karass, he might as well pack it in and retire from boxing because there’s very little chance he’ll have anywhere to go from here.

Berto-Soto Karass & Thurman-Chaves this Saturday, 7/27, on Showtime

berto44By Allan Fox: Former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (28-2, 22 KO’s) will have his career on the line this Saturday night against Jesus Soto Karass (27-8-3, 17 KO’s) in their fight at the AT&T Center, in San Antonio, Texas, USA. Berto, 29, cannot afford to lose this fight, because he’s already lost 2 out of his last 3 bouts, and it’s at the critical stage where another loss will signal the end of Berto as far being a contender.

He’s got a new trainer in Virgil Hunter, so he can’t make any excuses about not being at his best. Hunter is one of the best trainer’s in all of boxing, and he’s not going to let Berto get into his bad habits of fighting off the ropes and trying to use the shoulder roll defense.

Berto in tough against Soto Karass on July 27th in San Antonio, Texas

berto43By Allan Fox: Former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (28-2, 22 KO’s) will be in tough against Jesus Soto Karass (27-8-3, 17 KO’s) later this month on July 27th at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

The 5’9 ½” Soto Karass is a bigger, stronger and perhaps a better version of Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero, the same fighter that gave the 29-year-old Berto a real pounding last year in November in beating him by a 12 round unanimous decision in Ontario, California.

Berto ended up with both eyes badly swollen by the end of the fight, and he looked like he’d been through a war. Berto used the shoulder roll defense much of the fight, and he didn’t look like he was familiar with how to use it because Guerrero was able to tag him with hard shots the entire night without Berto being able to block them.
