Stiverne’s promoter wants Wilder fight in Egypt

wilder23 - CopyBy Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Don King is reportedly looking to put together a fight between WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KOs) and unbeaten Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KOs) in Egypt later this year if he can get the logistics worked out. King previously put together huge Muhammad Ali fights called the Rumble in the Jungle in Zaire and the Thrilla in Manila in the Philippines.

It’s unknown what the attraction would be for him to stage the fight in Egypt, because Deontay and Stiverne aren’t hugely popular like Ali was when King made those fights.

David Price picks Stiverne to beat Deontay Wilder

deontay72By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight David Price is picking WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KO’s) to beat mandatory challenger Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) when/if they face each other in 2014. Price doesn’t say exactly why he’s picking Stiverne to defeat the 6’7” Deontay.

He just feels that Stiverne will beat him, perhaps based on his two recent wins over Chris Arreola. Of course, there’s a world of difference in the height, power, speed and arm length between Arreola and Deontay, but you can’t expect Price to know that because he’s never been in the ring with either of these guys, so he’s just making a wild guess.

Deontay Wilder: I’m about to put Stiverne on a permanent vacation

deontay6677By Scott Gilfoid: Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) is getting nearer to a world title shot against WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KOs) and he expects to take his title when the two of them meet later this year. Stiverne won the WBC title last May with a 6th round stoppage victory over Chris Arreola, and since then he’s been enjoying his title as the new WBC heavyweight champion.

Deontay isn’t going to let Stiverne enjoy his moment in the spotlight for very much longer, because he plans on taking the title from him by the end of the year.

Stiverne: I want Deontay Wilder!

stiverneBy Scott Gilfoid: After a month of sounding indecisive about who he plans on fighting next, WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KO’s) is now saying that he wants to defend his newly won title against #1 WBC mandatory challenger Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s), in presumably his first defense of his title.

The World Boxing Council had previously said that Deontay should be the first defense for Stiverne, but Stiverne still seemed undecided if he would take that fight until now.

Stiverne’s trainer thinks Deontay Wilder is skinny and frail

deontay6677By Scott Gilfoid: Don House, the trainer for WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KO’s), believes that #3 WBC Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) is “frail”, according to Fighthype.com. House doesn’t see Deontay as a strong heavyweight due to his 6’7”, 220 lb. frame, and he thinks that Stiverne will be able ti either knock him out in the first three rounds or take him deep in order to stop him.

House is hoping that Stiverne will be able to take an optional title defense before he has to face Deontay. They’re waiting for the world from the World Boxing Council about whether they can take an optional title defense or if they must face Deontay next. Either way, he says Stiverne will be back in the ring in the next 5 months in November to make his first title defense of his WBC belt.

Deontay Wilder on crash course with Bermane Stiverne for WBC heavyweight title fight

wilder991By Scott Gilfoid: By now WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KO’s) has received the bad news that WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman says that Stiverne won’t be able to fight a unification match against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko next, and instead he’ll be required to face his mandatory challenger Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) next, unless they can come to agreement with Deontay to get him to step aside.

That’s a possibility, to be sure, but it’s going to cost a pretty penny to make that happen, because Deontay already said that he won’t be stepping aside for anything less than $10 million. That’s definitely out of Stiverne’s price range to come up with that kind of green stuff to pay Deontay.

WBC President Clarifies : Bermane Stiverne must fight Deontay Wilder next

wilder093By Bradley Dee: In a statement by WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, Bermane Stiverne must fight his mandatory challenger next, who happens to be Deontay Wilder. Contrary to this statement, Don King released last week that Bermane has an optional defense available to him.

Just 3 days ago Pulev was listed as Wladimir Klitschko’s next fight on boxrec, and that is gone now, and it looks like Wlad is going to attempt to get Stiverne in the ring with him in September and pay some step aside money to Wilder, and maybe even Kubrat Pulev, which Pulev would be crazy to take. If Wlad DOES get Wilder to step aside and fights Stiverne, he will have to fight Wilder next, which leaves Pulev in the cold again. Wilder wants 10 million to step aside which is absolutely insane and he will never get it. My feelings are either Pulev or Wilder are not going to allow this unification.

In an attempt to clarify, I sent a letter to the WBC asking for clarification.

Is Bermane Stiverne the next great American Hope?

stiverne52By Gerardo Granados: Last Saturday night something unusual happened, not only that the heavyweight championship bout disputed between Chris Arreola vs. Bermane Stiverne was aired on open Television by ESPN and although there wasn’t previously a really big promotion for the fight it made well on TV ratings according to ESPN. The boxing media covered the event as if it was a big fight, it is also interesting enough to know that the contenders were not big names but they were able to wake up the interest of the fight fans to watch a heavyweight championship fight.

Just a couple of weeks ago the reigning WBA-IBF-IBO-WBO champion Wladimir Klitschko also fought and ESPN aired his fight but the bout did poorly having only a fraction of the usual viewers.

Arreola-Stiverne 2: New lows

stiverne43333(Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda) By Steve Davis: Having just watched the WBC world heavyweight championship from last Saturday night, Bermane stiverne beating Chris Arreola via sixth round stoppage, my heart went out to Arreola, who for me out-boxed his opponent for six rounds until being caught by a hard punch. It also raised the question how has Bermane Stiverne become heavyweight champion.

He reminded me of an eighties heavyweight, a journeyman, fleshy round the middle boxing from the outside, lazy looking, hands held low, throwing mainly single shots. What has the heavyweight division come to, after seeing Alex leapei get a shot at a title, I didn’t think it could get much worse.

Deontay Wilder says he wants a $10 million step aside fee to let Stiverne fight someone else

deontay72By Scott Gilfoid: If WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KO’s) wants to avoid fighting his WBC mandatory challenger Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) next then it’s going to cost him some big cash in order to make that happen, says Deontay. He wants $10 million to step aside so that Stiverne can fight someone like IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko or whoever else that Stiverne and his promoter Don King might have in mind for him to fight next, according to RingTV.

Obviously that kind of money is far too prohibitive for Stiverne to side step the talented 6’7″ Deontay, so he’s pretty much going to have to take that fight with him unless he can find $10 million somewhere.
