Callum Smith wants Badou Jack vs. George Groves winner

smith1111By Scott Gilfoid: #3 WBC Callum Smith (17-0, 12 KOs) badly wants to fight the winner of the August 22nd fight between WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack and George Groves. Smith figures that Groves will wind up victorious in that fight and then might want to face him next rather than move forward to face other guys.

Groves has already talked about wanting to fight IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale in a unification fight if he beats Badou Jack.

Badou Jack to defend against George Groves on August 22nd on Showtime in Las Vegas, Nevada

groves56By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBC George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs) has finally gotten his big chance to make a splash in the United States when he faces WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) on August 22nd in Las Vegas, Nevada at a still to be determined venue.

It was already understood that Jack and Groves were going to be meeting up on 8/22, but now it’s official. Unfortunately, the fight won’t be on Floyd Mayweather Jr’s undercard on September 12th, because that would have been a big deal for both Groves and Jack to have that kind visibility, especially if the fight wound up as the co-feature.

Badou Jack vs. George Groves on Showtime on August 22nd in Las Vegas, Nevada

groves95By Scott Gilfoid: It looks like Showtime Championship Boxing will be televising the August 22nd title fight between WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) and #1 WBC George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs) from Las Vegas, Nevada, according to Lance Pugmire.

This will give the 31-year-old Jack a lot of much needed publicity having his fight shown on Showtime. Hopefully for Jack’s sake, boxing fans tune in to see the fight. Jack’s last fight against Anthony Dirrell did good numbers, but that was against a well-known fighter. Groves doesn’t have the same cache that Dirrell has in the United States.

Groves-Jack possible for August 22nd or September 12th, says Sauerland

groves6643By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBC George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs) and WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) could be facing each other either on August 22nd or September 12th, according to Groves’ promoter Kalle Sauerland. They’re looking at both of those dates to decide on for his title shot against the 31-year-old Jack.

Groves will have to do some traveling though, because he’s not going to have his typical home country advantage for this one. Jack’s promoter made sure that the fight would take place in the United States, and that’s exactly where it’s going to take place.

Groves suffers injury, fight with Jack expected to still take place

groves67788888By Scott Gilfoid: In a bit of bad news for fans of George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs), he reportedly suffered a head injury today while training with the Royal Marines in Portsmouth. The injury was bad enough to where the 27-year-old Groves had to be taken to a nearby hospital to be looked over.

Groves has since been released from the hospital and his head injury isn’t expected to impact his August 22nd title shot against WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, with head injuries you just never know for sure.

groves#1By Scott Gilfoid: Joe Calzaghe thinks that #1 WBC George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs) will be victorious in his upcoming title challenge against WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs). The date still isn’t official, but WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman was talking today about the Jack-Groves fight taking place on August 22nd in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Calzaghe wants to see Groves win the WBC 168lb title off of Jack, and then face IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale in a rematch/unification fight next year. It sounds like a nice pipe dream for Calzaghe, but there are a lot of pieces that need to come together for this fantasy fight to actually take place.

George Groves vs. Badou Jack on August 22nd in Las Vegas, Nevada

groves95By Scott Gilfoid: After losing twice in a row to former IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch and then beating a couple of obscure/lesser 168lb fighters in Christopher Rebrasse and Denis Douglin, Britain’s George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs) will be getting a world title shot on a silver platter given to him against WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) on August 22nd in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to ESPN.

This is obviously isn’t what the 31-year-old Jack had in mind for the fight date for his title defense against Groves, because he’d been talking about him defending his title against Groves on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s September 12th card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

DeGale hoping Groves beats Badou Jack to setup grudge match

degale66666By Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale (21-1, 14 KOs), who barely got by Andre Dirrell last week in their fight for the vacant IBF 168lb crown, is really hoping like mad that fellow countryman #1 WBC George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs) wins his fight against WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) this Summer.

DeGale needs Groves to win that fight so that the two of them can face each other in a unification fight in 2016. It would be a rematch, as DeGale lost a 12 round decision to Groves four years ago in 2011 in a close fight.
