Groves: I’m sure I’ll beat anyone in the world

Image: Groves: I'm sure I'll beat anyone in the worldBy Scott Gilfoid: For some fighters it crushes their egos and self-confidence when they get knocked clean out and stopped in two straight fights. It has a way of grounding the fighter to bring them back to reality in terms of their talent level.

In the case of George Groves, he doesn’t appear to have lost any of his self-belief whatsoever since being smashed twice by Carl Froch. If anything, I would say Groves is even more confident than he was before he was knocked out in those two fights.

George Groves looks badly weight drained

Image: George Groves looks badly weight drainedBy Scott Gilfoid: With two days to go before the weigh-in for his fight against WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) on Saturday night, #1 WBC George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs) is starting to look rather skeletal in appearance from the water weight that he’s losing so that he can try and make the 168 pound limit for the fight.

Groves is one of those fighters who has to lose a lot of weight to get down to the super middleweight limit, so it’s not surprising to see him looking really weight drained. But I hadn’t expected Groves to look this bad with still two days to go before the weigh-in.

Groves brags about being better than Badou Jack

Image: Groves brags about being better than Badou Jack(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBC George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs) is putting himself in a tough position where he’s going to look really bad on Saturday night if he loses to WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) in their fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Groves, 27, has been bragging long and hard during the buildup to their fight by telling the boxing public how he’s a better fighter than the 31-year-old Badou, and how he’s going to beat him when the two of them start throwing blows.

Badou Jack: I’m going to expose Groves’ inside game

Badou JackBy Scott Gilfoid: WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) says he plans on exposing #1 WBC George Groves’ inside game this Saturday night when he defends his title against him on Showtime pay-per-view. Groves doesn’t have much of an inside game to speak of, which isn’t all that surprising because his style of fighting is more of the David Haye style in which he moves a lot on the outside.

Jack, 31, says he wants to put nonstop pressure on the 27-year-old Groves so that he can’t breathe. This is the same kind of pressure that Jack put on his last opponent former WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell last April in beating him by a close 12 round majority decision.

Groves: Badou Jack hasn’t had to face a tough test like me

Image: Groves: Badou Jack hasn’t had to face a tough test like me(Photo credit: Idris Erba) By Scott Gilfoid: George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs) is only five days away from challenging WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) on Showtime pay-per-view on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Groves, 27, thinks he’s going to dominate and stop Jack in this fight to take his WBC strap, and then move forward to fight bigger fights like James DeGale, Martin Murray, Callum Smith, Rocky Fielding and Frank Buglioni [if he wins the WBA 168lb title over Fedor Chudinov].

Those aren’t big fights for people in the United States or elsewhere around the world, but for the UK, those would be big fights because all of those guys are Brits. It would be for domestic consumption only, and it wouldn’t prove whether Groves is any good or not, because he won’t be facing the talented guys like Andre Ward, Andre Dirrell and Anthony Dirrell.

George Groves: I have enough power to take Badou Jack out

Image: George Groves: I have enough power to take Badou Jack outBy Scott Gilfoid: Always the great self-promoter, #1 WBC George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs) believes that he’s better in pretty much every department in terms of boxing skills going into his fight against WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Groves feels he’s the better overall fighter, as does his trainer Paddy Fitzpatrick, and he thinks he’s going to go out there and steal the show from Floyd Mayweather Jr. by stopping his Mayweather Promotions fighter Badou Jack in front of the sold out MGM Grand crowd in this fight in less than two weeks.

Badou Jack: This fight could steal the show

Badou JackBy Scott Gilfoid: WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) plans on stealing the show from Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Andre Berto in their main event fight on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jack, 31, will be defending his title against George Groves (21-1, 16 KOs) in his first defense of his newly won WBC 168lb title.

Jack will be making his first defense against his mandatory challenger. He doesn’t mind having to face his mandatory right away because he feels confident that he’s going to be able to defeat him, and send him back home a beaten fighter.

Froch wants Groves to beat Jack, thinks it will make him look better

groves566By Scott Gilfoid: The retired Carl Froch says he wouldn’t mind it so much if No.1 WBC George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs) defeats WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) in their fight in a little over two weeks on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Froch figures that if Groves defeats Jack, it will help make his own career look better because he whipped Groves twice by knockout in 2013 and 2014. Unfortunately, I don’t see it that way. I mean, if Groves defeats Jack, I don’t the boxing public will give a fig about the victory or about how Froch previously defeated Groves a couple of times.
