Theophane: I can beat Adrien Broner

broner64By Scott Gilfoid: 35-year-old unranked British fighter Ashley Theophane (39-6-1, 11 KOs) is highly motivated for his potential world title shot against WBA light welterweight champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (31-2, 23 KOs) for their proposed fight in February or March of this year. Theophane wants to prove all the doubters wrong about him, and he wants to show the 26-year-old Broner that he’s not an “easy money” fight as he says on Twitter.

Broner wanted to be the one to face Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao for his next fight on April 9th on HBO pay-per-view, but instead Broner got passed over by Pacquiao’s 84-year-old promoter Bob Arum, who went with one of his own Top Rank stable fighters Tim Bradley for a third fight.

The fact that Arum was willing to put Pacquiao in with a fighter that the boxing public has zero interest in seeing was a knock on Broner, because he should have a high enough following to bring in more fans for a Pacquiao fight compared to a third painful to watch Pacquiao-Bradley fight.

Broner to take his frustrations out on Theophane after losing out on Pacquiao fight

1-LR_BRONERALLAKHVERDIEV-PRESSER-1805By Scott Gilfoid: WBA light welterweight champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (31-2, 23 KOs) got passed over for the Manny Pacquiao fight for April 9th, and he’s understandably not happy about it. Broner felt that he should have been the one to fight the 37-year-old Pacquiao, because he wanted to beat him and send him into retirement. I would have liked to have seen Broner and Pacquiao fight. That sure as heck would have been a good one.

Broner wants to take out his frustrations on 35-year-old Ashley Theophane (39-6-1, 11 KOs), a little known fighter whose claim to fame is that he’s one of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s fighters in his Mayweather Promotions stable. Other than Theophane being with Mayweather, there’s nothing in Theophane’s career that stands out.

Mayweather: Adrien Broner is fighting Ashley Theophane next

Floyd MayweatherBy Chris Williams: It looks like promoter Floyd Mayweather Jr. and WBA light welterweight champion Adrien Broner could wind up bumping heads in the near future about the course that Broner wants to take in his career.

Mayweather is saying that Broner is STILL going to be fighting his guy 35-year-old Ashley Theophane (39-6-1, 11 KOs) next. Someone might need to break the news to Mayweather gently that Broner could be facing Filipino star Manny Pacquiao next instead of Theophane.

Mayweather: Broner will be facing Theophane in January

LR_MEDIAWORKOUT-ADRIEN BRONER-1487By Chris Williams: Promoter Floyd Mayweather Jr. says that his fighter 35-year-old Ashley Theophane (39-6-1, 11 KOs) will be challenging WBA World light welterweight champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (31-2, 23 KOs) for his WBA title next January in a fight that will take place in Atlanta in a big card.

Broner, 26, recently spoke of facing Theophane last October following his 12th round knockout win over former WBA 140lb champion Khabib Allakhverdiev in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was unclear at the time whether Broner was serious or not about the fight. But with Mayweather saying that Broner will be facing Theophane in January, you have to take it seriously that he will be facing him.

Theophane sees win No.40 against Broner

1-LR_BRONERALLAKHVERDIEV-PRESSER-1805By Scott Gilfoid: 35-year-old former British light welterweight champion Ashley Theophane (39-6-1, 11 KOs) tweeted today that he’ll be picking up his 40th win of his career against newly crowned WBA World light welterweight champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (31-2, 23 KOs.

It’s unknown when the Broner-Theophane fight will take place or if it will happen at all. We do know that Floyd Mayweather Jr wants Broner to throw a bone to the non-top 15 ranked Theophane to give him a title shot, even though he’s not ranked in the top 15.

Theophane possible for Adrien Broner’s next fight

LR_BRONER VS ALLAKHVERDIEV-FIGHT NIGHT-3423(Photo credit: Stephanie Trapp/SHOWTIME) By Scott Gilfoid: It looks like WBA light welterweight champion Adrien Broner (31-2, 23 KOs) will take an easy title defense for his first defense of his newly won WBA 140lb title. If the World Boxing Association will let him, Broner could be facing 2nd tier fighter Ashley Theophane (39-6-1, 11 KOs) in his first defense.

Theophane is one of Broner’s close friend Floyd Mayweather Jr’s stable fighters in his Mayweather Promotions’ stable, and Mayweather previously told Theophane that he believed he could get him a fight against Broner if Theophane won his last fight against Steve Upsher Chambers, which he did last month in beating Chambers by a 10 round unanimous decision on his undercard on September 12th.

Adrien Broner targeting Ashley Theophane

Image: Adrien Broner targeting Ashley Theophane(Photo credit: Stephanie Trapp/SHOWTIME) By Allan Fox: It was hoped that after Adrien Broner (31-2, 23 KOs) defeated easy mark opponent Khabib Allakhverdiev (19-2, 9 KOs) last night that he would start looking to face some quality opposition in the 140lb division like Amir Iman, Viktor Postol, Ruslan Provodnikov, Terence Crawford or Lamont Peterson.

It doesn’t look like that’s going to happen, at least not with Broner’s first title defense. After defeating the 32-year-old Allakhverdiev last night at the U.S Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio, Broner said that he wants to fight 35-year-old Ashley Theophane (39-6-1, 11 KOs).

Ashley Theophane update

by Ashley Theophane – As I look forward to a fresh and positive new year, it has given me the chance to reflect back on 2013 from my perspective.

It has been an exceptional year that met the dreams I had as a five year old child. Many of the ‘experts’ have frequently said that it would not be possible for me to achieve hardly anything over my ten year career. This could have deflected anyone from their goals and dreams, but for me, it has only served to drive my determination to achieve even more.

I still have much more to achieve and have so many youngsters to continue the privilege of doing all I can to be a ‘role model’ for. My life is proof that if you believe and want to be something in life, you can achieve it. You just have to work really hard for it, without ever being put off by mishaps, lack of support or failure.
