Arreola-Stiverne 2: New lows

stiverne43333(Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda) By Steve Davis: Having just watched the WBC world heavyweight championship from last Saturday night, Bermane stiverne beating Chris Arreola via sixth round stoppage, my heart went out to Arreola, who for me out-boxed his opponent for six rounds until being caught by a hard punch. It also raised the question how has Bermane Stiverne become heavyweight champion.

He reminded me of an eighties heavyweight, a journeyman, fleshy round the middle boxing from the outside, lazy looking, hands held low, throwing mainly single shots. What has the heavyweight division come to, after seeing Alex leapei get a shot at a title, I didn’t think it could get much worse.

Arreola vs. Stiverne this Saturday for vacant WBC heavyweight title on ESPN

arreola777By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBC Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s) and #2 WBC Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) will be meeting up this Saturday night on ESPN to fight for vacant WBC heavyweight title at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, California. This is a rematch of a fight that took place last year in April in which Stiverne easily beat Arreola by a 12 round unanimous decision. Stiverne broke Arreola’s nose, and knocked him down once in the fight to earn the victory.

The only reason that the two heavyweights are battling again is because the WBC decided for some reason to give Arreola another shot, even it doesn’t make any sense at all that the two fighting again. Stiverne easily beat Arreola, and the World Boxing Council should have pushed one of the top contenders such as Deontay Wilder to the No.2 spot to face Stiverne. By not doing this it likely caused the major networks to reject the fight, because the last thing they need is to televise another one-sided heavyweight clash like the Arreola-Stiverne fight.

Wladimir wants Arreola-Stiverne winner

wladimir331By Allan Fox: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (62-3, 52 KO’s) did a great job tonight in defeating challenger Alex Leapai (30-5-3, 24 KO’s) by a 5th round stoppage at the Koenig Pilsener Arena, Oberhausen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.

The win over the outclassed Leapai has Wladimir now set to defend against his IBF mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev for later on this year. However, Wladimir has his eyes set on trying to get a fight against the winner of the May 10th fight between Bermane Stiverne and Chris Arreola for the WBC heavyweight title.

Arreola: I’ll beat Stiverne and then go after Wladimir

By Allan Fox: #2 WBC Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) has new confidence after beating Seth Michell by a 1st round knockout in his last fight in September. Arreola is no longer thinking about his one-sided round unanimous decision loss to Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s) from last year in April. Arreola will be facing Stiverne in a rematch on May 10th, and he feels he’s going to avenge the loss and then go after IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko to unify the heavyweight world titles.

Taking a look at Stiverne’s record

By Bradley Dee: If all goes as planned we have a fight between Chris Arreola (36-3) and Bermane Stiverne (23-1) to look forward to on June 21st in a fight for the vacant WBC heavyweight title in Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico, but before that fight happens, has anyone actually stepped back and checked out Bermane Stiverne’s record? I have to say when I did, I was a little amazed. Browsing through his resume you’ll find a list of B, C and D level fighters, but mostly C and D level.

Stiverne can’t wait to beat Arreola to get WBC title

OTTAWA, Canada (January 2, 2014) – On his mission to become the first Haitian-born heavyweight champion of the world, World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver champion Bermane “B. Ware” Stiverne (23-1, 20 KOs) still doesn’t know exactly when and where he will be fighting for the vacant WBC heavyweight world title.

After patiently waiting 2 ½ years as the mandatory challenger, though, the 34-year-old Stiverne understands that he will be in his first world title fight sometime during the first-quarter of 2014 – date, place and network to be determined – in a rematch with Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola (36-3, 31 KOs).

Stiverne’s manager pushing for Arreola fight in Canada or NY on Feb. 15th

arreola43By Allan Fox: The manager for #1 WBC Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s) is reportedly pushing to have the February 15th fight between Stiverne and #2 WBC Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) take place in Canada or New York for their bout for the vacant WBC heavyweight title, according to the LA Times. However, Arreola’s manager Dan Goosen wants the fight to take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, where Arreola has a large following of fans.

It’s important for Arreola to have the fight staged in an arena where he has a large following because he’s the type of fighter who is at his best when he’s being cheered on. Arreola took a beating in his fight against Stiverne earlier this year in losing by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision. Arreola was knocked down in the 3rd round and suffered a broken nose in the fight.

Fury bellyaching about Deontay not deserving to fight Arreola-Stiverne winner

deontay50395By Scott Gilfoid: Britain’s Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) thinks he should be the one to fight the winner of the Chris Arreola vs. Bermane Stiverne fight rather than unbeaten American talent Deontay Wilder (30-0, 30 KO’s). The Arreola-Stiverne bout will be for the vacant WBC heavyweight title that used to belong to Vitali Klitschko until he vacated the strap earlier this week.

Unfortunately for Fury, the WBC has pushed him down in the rankings to #8 because he hasn’t stayed active and has been resting on his laurels since his close call win against Steve Cunningham last April. In the meantime, the WBC has pushed the 6’7″ Deontay to #3 in the WBC rankings.

Arreola and Stiverne to fight for vacant WBC heavyweight strap

arreola453By Scott Gilfoid: Well, the WBC Board of Governors finally had their meeting and they ended voting for a rematch between Chria Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) and Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s) to take place to fight for the vacant WBC heavyweight crown that was recently given up by champion Vitali Klitschko. Arreola and Stiverne are now free to start negotiations to put together a fight between them for the WBC title. If one of them can’t make it, then we’ll likely see #3 WBC Deontay Wilder (30-0, 30 KO’s) ordered to step in to fill in.

There will be a series of fights ordered by the WBC to determine the next two mandatory challengers for the winner of the Arreola-Stiverne fight. One would assume that Deontay will be ordered to face #4 WBC Bryant Jennings, and #5 WBC Mike Perez will be ordered to fight #6 WBC Dereck Chisora.

Stiverne decisions Arreola in bloodbath

arreola33By Jim Dower: In a surprise upset, #2 WBC heavyweight contender Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s) defeated #1 WBC Chris Arreola (35-3, 30 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision to become the WBC mandatory challenger on Saturday night at the Citizens Business Bank Arena, in Ontario, California, USA. The judges scored the fight 117-110, 117-110 and 118-109.

The fight looked like it was going to go Arreola’s way in the first two rounds, as he landed a lot of hard shots in trying to score a quick knockout. However, in the 3rd round, Stiverne changed things around by knocking Arreola down late in the round with a big right hand to the head.
