Klitschko stops Leapai in 5th round TKO

By Scott Gilfoid: In one of IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko’s easiest title defenses of his career, he stopped a badly over-matched Australian heavyweight Alex Leapai (30-5-3, 24 KO’s) in the 5th round on Saturday night in a three knockdown performance at the Koenig Pilsener Arena, Oberhausen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. The 6’6″ Wladimir was barely touched in the fight by the much shorter and slower 6’0″ Leapai.

In the 5th, Wladimir knocked Leapai down twice with left-right combinations to the head. Leapai showed a lot of heart in getting back up from the first knockdown in the round, because he was badly hurt from that shot. I don’t know of too many heavyweights who would have gotten up from that.

Wladimir Klitschko: Leapai only throws haymakers and has just one gear

wladimir555(Photo credit: Michael Sterling Eaton / KMG; www.michaelsterlingeaton.com) By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimr Klitschko (61-3, 51 KO’s) isn’t too worried about his WBO selected opponent Alex Leapai (30-4-3, 24 KO’s) for their fight tonight at the Koenig Pilsener Arena, Oberhausen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.

Wladimir realizes what he has in front of him – a short, slow fighter with big power but limited skills and talent. This is one of the more basic opponents that the 6’6” Wladimir has had recently, and as long as he doesn’t get hit on the chin by him, Wladimir should be fine.

Briggs caught with pie while entering Wladimir’s weigh-in

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs showed up shirtless with a large pie at IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko’s final weigh-in with Alex Leapai. The security stopped Briggs from entering the facility with the pie. Briggs said he wanted to give the pie to Wladimir, but the security wasn’t going to take any chances with Briggs having a large pie in his hands while watching Wladimir weigh-in. Earlier this week, Briggs threw his t-shirt at Wladimir at the final press conference with Leapai.

Weights: Wladimir 247.4 lbs, Leapai 248 lbs

wladimir333333(Photo credit: Michael Sterling Eaton / KMG; www.michaelsterlingeaton.com) By Allan Fox: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (61-3, 51 KO’s) and challenger Alex Leapai (30-4-3, 24 KO’s) both weighed in today for their fight on Saturday night at the Koenig Pilsener Arena, Oberhausen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. Wladimir weighed 247.4 lbs. Leapai weighed 248lbs. Wladimir’s weight is 6 lbs heavier than in his last fight against Alexander Povetkin last year when he weighed in at 241.

Leapai’s weight of 248lbs is a career high for him. He weighed 244 in his last fight. You have to figure that Leapai either consciously put on extra due to him fighting the bigger Wladimir or he might have been padding himself on the back a little too much after his big win over Denis Boytsov last November. That’s quite possible as well.
