Adam Booth: Haye should have never made his latest comeback

Image: Adam Booth: Haye should have never made his latest comeback

By Tim Royner: David Haye’s former trainer Adam Booth thinks he made a mistake of coming back to fight Tony Bellew last Saturday night after his previous loss to him in March 2017. Booth thinks it was a major mistake on the Hayemaker’s part in taking the second fight with Bellew. In fact, Booth believes Haye (28-4, 26 KOs) should have never fought Bellew (30-2-1, 20 KOs) in the first place.

Golovkin deserved win over Jacobs says Saunders’ trainer

Image: Golovkin deserved win over Jacobs says Saunders’ trainer

By Eric Baldwin: Adam Booth, the trainer for WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders, says that he feels that Gennady Golovkin did enough to earn his 12 round decision victory over Daniel Jacobs last Saturday night. While Booth did see the fight as a close affair, he felt that Golovkin’s jabs and the knockdown in round 4 that he scored were the difference in the fight. He says that Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) won more rounds overall than Jacobs (32-2, 29 KOs).

Booth gives Bellew a chance against Haye

Image: Booth gives Bellew a chance against Haye

By Scott Gilfoid: Adam Booth, the former trainer of David Haye, sees him beating cruiserweight Tony Bellew this Saturday night in their big fight at the O2 Arena in London, England. However, Booth is giving the 33-year-old Bellew (28-2-1, 18 KOs) a chance of winning the fight if he can take Haye deep into the fight.

Booth isn’t sure about what kind of condition Haye will be for the fight, because he didn’t put himself through a grueling camp. Booth notes that Haye’s last two fights against heavyweights Mark De Mori and Arnold Gjergjaj both ended early with 1st round knockouts. With Haye not having gone 12 rounds since his fight against Wladimir Klitschko in 2011, there is definitely some question marks in terms of his stamina.

Booth has strategy for Andy Lee to negate Saunders’ speed

lee4By Scott Gilfoid: Trainer Adam Booth has come up with a strategy for his fighter WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee (34-2-1, 24 KOs) to use on challenger Billy Joe Saunders (22-0, 12 KOs) this Saturday night to try to nullify his natural hand speed advantage. Booth does not want Lee to be attacking the 26-year-old Saunders or trying to put any pressure on him, because he feels this is something that won’t work for Lee because Saunders does well against fighters that come after him.

Much of Saunders’ career has seen him get the better of fighters that applied pressure on him in his fights. So instead of having Lee pressure Saunders, Booth wants Lee to focus on throwing shots each time that Saunders throws his own. In other words, Booth wants Lee to punch with Saunders so that he can take advantage of Saunders’ natural aggressiveness.

“When you’ve got someone who has the speed advantage, if you go before you won’t land because they’ll move out of position,” Booth said to skysports.com. “If you try to go after, they could be in and out before you can get your shot off. The key is punching with people with good hand speed,” Booth said.

Eubank Sr hands over complete control to Adam Booth to train Chris Jr

booth343By Scott Gilfoid: Chris Eubank Sr has handed over the complete control of the training of his son Chris Eubank Jr (19-1, 14 KOs) over to well-known trainer Adam Booth to guide his career and hopefully take him to the next level.

Eubank Sr believes that Booth can take Eubank Jr to the next level and lead him to world titles and to a victory over IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in the near future.

Eubank Sr already thought that Eubank Jr could beat Golovkin even before Booth became his trainer, but with him he expects Eubank Jr’s skills to be polished and enhanced.

David Price no longer trained by Adam Booth

booth343By Scott Gilfoid: Former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price (15-2, 13 KO’s) has reportedly let his trainer Adam Booth go after a brief time spent with him as his head guy. There’s still no word about why the 6’8″ Price let Booth go, but the speculation is it was because of Price’s new promotional deal with Sauerland Events.

Whoever emerges as the new trainer for Price is going to have his work cut out for him because he’s lost his last two fights to Tony Thompson, both by knockouts. Price has a questionable chin, and it’s hard to imagine that changing no matter who trains him.
