Golovkin’s trainer concerned with Brook’s clinching

golovkin86

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez says he’s very concerned about a number of things going into GGG’s fight against welterweight Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England.

While there are things like the judges being influenced by the pro-Brook crowd that has Sanchez’s attention, what he appears to be more concerned with is Brook’s habit of clinching his opponents and moving around the ring.

Golovkin’s trainer expects Brook to try and frustrate Gennady

sanchez97

By Scott Gilfoid: Abel Sanchez, the trainer for IBF/IBO/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs), says he expects his next opponent welterweight Kell “Special K” Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) to be looking to frustrate Triple G when the two of them face each other on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Sanchez thinks Brook’s training team will give him instructions not to stand in front of Golovkin for any length of time in this fight. Sanchez thinks Brook’s team will have him looking to win a decision over Golovkin by using movement, fast punches, and other tricks to somehow win a decision. Sanchez does not see Brook looking to stand in the pocket with Golovkin in this fight, because he feels it would end badly for the British fighter if he did.

I think it’s pretty obvious that Brook will be looking to win the fight against Golovkin using any trick in the book. I don’t think Brook will care that he won’t be able to stand and trade with Golovkin to try and bang him out like he’s done against 25 other opponents in his career.

Sanchez: Golovkin is the #1 pound-for-pound fighter

golovkin577By Dan Ambrose: With IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s impressive knockout of Dominic Wade (18-1, 12 KOs) last night, Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez thinks he should be the No.1 pound-for-pound fighter in boxing.

Golovkin is currently #3 in Ring Magazine’s pound-for-pound rankings, behind #1 Roman Gonzalez and #2 Sergey Kovalev. However, after Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez’s less than spectacular performance last night in winning a grueling 12 round decision over fringe contender McWilliams Arroyo (16-3, 14 KOs) in the co-feature, you can make a strong argument that Gonzalez (45-0, 38 KOs) no longer the #1 guy in the pound-for-pound rakings, if he ever deserved to be there in the first place.

I thought Gonzalez looked poor in his previous fight against Brian Viloria last October, but he looked even worse last night.

Sanchez: Wade is a challenge to Golovkin because he’s hungry

golovkin#1(Photo Credit/Michael Sterling Eaton, Neo Nostalgia) By Jim Dower: Trainer Abel Sanchez says that IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) is ready for his title defense this month in nine days from now against unbeaten Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) on April 23 on HBO Championship Boxing from the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Wade, 25, is seen as a real challenge for the recently turned 34-year-old Golovkin due to his hunger, punching power and his youth. Wade hasn’t learned how to lose yet, and he’s going to be coming into the fight with the confidence from his past 18 victories.

Ward: Sanchez didn’t want to give me Golovkin

1-WardBarrera_HoganphotosBy Dan Ambrose: Light heavyweight contender Andre Ward (29-0, 15 KOs) says that IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez sent his fighter Sullivan Barrera (17-1, 12 KOs) to face him rather than sending in Golovkin last Saturday night at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California, Ward thinks that Barrera was sent in to test the waters for Golovkin to see it was safe first.

Ward ended up easily beating Barrera by a 12 round unanimous decision in their fight on HBO Boxing. After the fight, Sanchez initially complimented Ward on his performance in beating his man Barrera. However, when asked by the media whether he thought Ward could beat undefeated IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev, Sanchez said this:

Golovkin will only fight Canelo at 160, says Sanchez

Image: Golovkin will only fight Canelo at 160, says SanchezBy Dan Ambrose: Abel Sanchez, the trainer for Gennady Golovkin, says WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez only has one options available to him if he wants to keep his WBC middleweight title after his May 7th fight against Amir Khan. If Canelo is still in possession of his WBC title, then he’ll need to decide whether he wants to fight #1 WBC mandatory challenger Golovkin at the full weight of 160lbs or not.

If Canelo chooses to try and push a catch-weight of 155lbs on Golovkin, Sanchez says that they will not agree to that. Canelo will then either have to vacate his WBC title or get stripped of it for failing to defend it against Golovkin at the full weight.

Sanchez: The Diva [Canelo] must fight Golovkin at 160 without catch-weight

1-CottoCaneloArrivals_Hoganphotos13By Tim Fletcher: Trainer Abel Sanchez says that there absolutely will not be a catch-weight for a fight between his fighter IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) and WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) for later this year in September.

Sanchez says that Golovkin will not be fighting Canelo at 155lb catch-weight, period. Sanchez says that the World Boxing Council rules that are in place says Canelo has 15 days to agree to the fight after the two of them fight their interim fights. Sanchez says the WBC’s rules say nothing about a 155lb catch-weight division.

Abel Sanchez: Khan can beat Canelo if he stays focused

sanchez77By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez thinks it’s quite possible that the lighter, weaker Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) could pull off an upset in his fight against WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) on May 7.

Sanchez thinks that the heavier Canelo will likely be sluggish and slow from having put on a ton of weight after rehydrating from having made the 155lb catch-weight the day before their fight. Sanchez believes that as long as Khan doesn’t try and fight Canelo toe-to-toe, he’s got the hand speed and talent to potentially beat the Mexican fighter.

Sanchez thinks Khan is too talented for Canelo to be able to just run over like many boxing fans think. The only thing that Sanchez doesn’t know is if Khan will listen to his trainer Virgil Hunter, and stick to the game plan for the fight.

Golovkin’s trainer: Canelo won’t last 9 rounds with GGG

golovkin5554By Dan Ambrose: Earlier this week, the World Boxing Council ruled that WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) can take a voluntary defense before facing his #1 WBC mandatory challenger Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) in the second half of 2016 as part of a mandatory defense.

The delay in the title defense by Canelo is driven in part by the desire to let his fight against Golovkin marinate so that it can be bigger than it would be if it were to take place next. Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez understands why Canelo and his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions want the Canelo-Golovkin fight to marinate.

Sanchez: Canelo vs. GGG @ 155 is an insult to all great warriors that fought at 160

1-CottoCaneloArrivals_Hoganphotos8By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Abel Sanchez thinks WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s interest in fighting Gennady GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) at a catch-weight of 155lbs is a very disrespectful to the sport of boxing. Sanchez also thinks it is disrespectful to all the great warriors that have fought in the past in the normal weight classes without catch-weight handicaps to try to get an unfair edge against their opponents.

Sanchez feels that Canelo and Miguel Cotto is a couple of divas who have tried to put themselves ahead of the sport of boxing by gaming the system by using catch-weight handicaps to gain an edge over their opponents.
