By Sean McDaniel: EBU welterweight champion Matthew Hatton (39-4-2, 15 KO’s) will be facing former WBA welterweight interim champion Yuriy Nuzhnenko (30-1-1, 14 KO’s) tonight in a 12 round title bout at the Bolton Arena, Bolton, Lancashire. The European Boxing Union welterweight title is as less importance in this fight as is the chance for the winner to possibly get a title shot against the WBA welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko. That would be a once in a lifetime title shot for the 29-year-old Hatton, and he wants to make sure he doesn’t blow the chance for that fight by losing to the 34-year-old Nuzhnenko tonight.

Even if Hatton is able to get a fight with Senchenko and does beat him, no one in their right mind will see Hatton as the top fighter in the welterweight division.

Nuzhnenko Dominates Kurbanov
By Erik Schmidt: Interim World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight champion Yuriy Nuzhnenko (28-0-1, 13 KOs) defeated Uzbekistan fighter Ikbal Kurbanov (8-3, 3 KOs) by a 10-round decision on Saturday night at the Yunost Sport Palace, in Zaporizhia, Ukraine. Nuzhnenko, 32, dominated the fight from start to finish over Kurbanov, showing some excellent boxing skills and further showing why Nuzhnenko is the WBA champion. There were no knockdowns in the fight, as the light-punching Nuzhnenko tends to focus more on technical aspects of his game rather than trying to slug it out.
