By Jeff Aranow: IBO/WBA World junior middleweight champion Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara (23-2-2, 13 KOs) wants to make a big impression on the boxing world when he defends his titles against former 154lb champion Yuri Foreman (34-2, 10 KOs) in less than two weeks from now on January 13 on PBC on Spike.

The Lara-Foreman fight will taking place at the Hialeah Park Racing and Casino in Miami, Florida. Lara wants a knockout over Foreman. You should hope that Lara can accomplish that task, because if he can’t, then it doesn’t say much about the Cuban fighter’s talent. Foreman was stopped in consecutive fights by Pawel Wolak and Miguel Cotto in 2010 and 2011.

By Eric Baldwin: WBA World ‘Super’ junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (23-2-2, 13 KOs) will be making his fifth defense of his title next month against former WBA 154lb champion Yuri Foreman (34-2, 10 KOs) on January 13 on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike TV from the Hialeah Park Amphitheater in Hialeah, Florida, according to RingTV.

It’ll be a voluntary defense for Lara, as the 36-year-old Foreman is ranked #10 with the WBA. Foreman is lucky to be ranked that high though, as he’s only fought twice in the last three years. Foreman was out of the sport from 2013 to 2015. He came back in 2015 and he’s beaten Lenwood Dozier (9-9-1) and Jason Davis (13-11-2) since his return.

Paulie Malignaggi vs. Gianluca Branco possible

malignaggi133By Allan Fox: Paulie Malignaggi (34-7, 7 KOs) is interested in challenging 45-year-old EBU welterweight champion Gianluca Branco (49-3-1, 24 KOs) for his title before the end of this year. It’s a title that the 34-year-old Malignaggi would like to add to his collection of belts that he’s won during his 14-year pro career.

Despite having lost 3 out of his last 5 fights, Malignaggi is plugging forward with his career in picking off some of the lower hanging fruit to start winning again. By staying active and beating whoever he can, Malignaggi is keeping his name alive and increasing the chances that he’ll eventually get another nice paying fight like the one he got against former WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia last August.

Yuri Foreman vs. Jorge Melendez possible for Cotto-Martinez undercard

foreman4334By Dan Ambrose: A fight between former WBA World junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman (32-2, 9 KO’s) and Jorge Melendez (28-3-1, 26 KO’s) is being talked about for the June 7th undercard of the Miguel Cotto vs. Sergio Martinez fight, according to Dan Rafael. The card is still being formed at this point, but it’s looking too good as far as undercard fights go.

HBO will be televising this on pay-per-view from Madison Square Garden, in New York. If the Foreman-Melendez fight does get added to the card, it has a good chance of being to co-feature based on the other three fighters they have on the undercard.

Foreman unable to handle Wolak’s pressure

Image: Foreman unable to handle Wolak's pressureBy Jim Dower: In hindsight, it might not have been the smartest thing for former WBA junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman (28-2, 8 KO’s) to take on a tough pressure fighter and non-stop puncher like junior middleweight contender Pawel Wolak (29-1, 19 KO’s) in Foreman’s first fight coming off of a stoppage loss and major surgery to repair his badly damaged right knee. Last night, Foreman seemed out of his element as Wolak pressured and pounded him until Foreman decided not to come out for the 7th round.
