Shumenov defeats Joppy, both fighters look terrible

By Jason Kim: WBA light heavyweight champion Beibut Shumenov (11-0, 7 KO’s) stopped 40-year-old former WBA middleweight champion William Joppy (39-7-2, 30 KO’s) by a 6th round stoppage on Saturday at the Ice Mansion, in Schymkent, Kazakhstan. Shumenov, 27, put away Joppy with a right hand to the head in the 6th that caused him to take a knee and get counted out. However, both fighters looked terrible throughout.

Image: Shumenov to fight 40-year-old William Joppy on SaturdayBy Jim Dower: With the cancellation of his unification bout against World Boxing Organization (WBO) light heavyweight champion Jurgen Braehmer that was scheduled for Saturday, WBA light heavyweight champion Beibut Shumenov (10-1, 6 KO’s) has found a replacement in 40-year-old WBA middleweight champion William Joppy (39-6-2, 30 KO’s) to fight at the Ice Mansion, in Schymkent, Kazakhstan on Saturday. This is a pretty poor replacement, even if it is a last second one, because Joppy is totally faded and has lost two out of his last three fights.

Bute vs. Joppy On February 29th

International Boxing Federation super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (21-0, 17 KOs) will put his unbeaten record on the line when he takes on former World Boxing Association middleweight champion William Joppy on February 29th, at the Bell Centre, Montreal, in Quebec, Canada. In his last bout, Bute, 27, defeated knockout artist Alejandro Berrio by 11th round TKO on October 19th, a bout in which Bute spent most of the fight running from Berrio and trying to prevent getting hit from his bombs.
