Walters isn’t interesting for Lomachenko, says manager Klimas

Vasyl Lomachenko vs Gamalir RodriguezBy Dan Ambrose: With WBA featherweight champion Nicholas Walters losing his title on the scales before his last fight against Miguel Marriaga, he lost whatever chance there was to fight WBO featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (4-1, 2 KOs) in a unification match.

Lomachenko’s manager Egis Klimas says that without a title in Walters’ possession, they’re not interested in fighting him. Additionally, they’re concerned with Walters’ ability to make weight for a featherweight contest after seeing him rehydrate to 145 pounds for his featherweight contest against Marriaga.

Lomachenko’s manager sees no point in Nicholas Walters fight now after he lost his title

walters34By Dan Ambrose: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has his work cut out for him in trying to convince WBO featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko to defend his title against former WBA featherweight champion Nicholas Walters (26-0, 21 KOs) now that the 29-year-old Walters no longer is the WBA title holder after losing his belt on the scales last Friday when he failed to make weight for his fight against Miguel Marriaga (20-1, 18 KOs) last Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Walters came in one pound over the limit at 127 pounds. The fight still went ahead, but without Walters’ WBA title in his possession, as it was stripped from him after he failed to make the weight.

Arum wants to stage big card in Dubai or Abu Dhabi between Lomachenko and Walters in November

Ellerbe and ArumBy Chris Williams:
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is interested in staging a big fight in November in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates or Abu Dhabi, according to Dan Rafael. Arum wants to stage a featherweight unification bout between WBO champ Vasyl Lomachenko and WBA champion Nicholas Walters over there.

It’s unclear what those two fighters feel about this, as by staging it in that area, it will mean fewer fans from the United States will be able to see it in person due to the travel costs. It might also mean fewer people watching the fight because it taking place so far away.

Lomachenko faces Rodriguez on Saturday on Mayweather-Pacquiao card

Vasyl Lomachenko re-signsBy Dan Ambrose: WBO featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (3-1-1, 1 KO) will be making his second defense of his World Boxing Organization 126 pound title this Saturday night against his #1 WBO challenger Gamalier Rodriguez (25-2-3, 17 KOs) in a 12 round bout on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight card from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

While the 28-year-old Rodriguez is technically ranked #1 at WBO, he’s really over-matched in this fight because he does not have nearly the same kind of skills that the 27-year-old, 2-time Olympic gold medalist Lomachenko has.

What if there were no more hungry former Soviet boxers?

wladimir4311By Gerardo Granados: Back in 1989 the Berlin wall fall and as a domino the Soviet Union came to an end, it also came to an end the politics that prevented many brave and skillful fighters to join the ranks of prize fighting, fortunately for us fight fans now a days we can see how many hungry lions have come out from the Iron Curtain to compete and to rule supreme as boxing champions.

It is no secret that you will find many fighters who have succeeded coming from very humble origins.

Lomachenko not interested in Rigondeaux fight at a catch-weight or at 122, he has to come up to 126

lomachenko566789By Chris Williams: If the WBA/WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (15-0, 10 KOs) wants a fight against the bigger, taller, and heavier WBO featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (3-1, 1 KOs), Rigondeaux will have to move up to featherweight and fight the 27-year-old Lomachenko in his weight class, because he refuses to accommodate the smaller 5’4” Rigondeaux by fighting him at a catch-weight in between the super bantamweight and featherweight divisions.

It doesn’t make sense for Rigondeaux to come up in weight to fight Lomachenko, because he doesn’t have a huge fan base in the U.S.
