Donaire wants to get back to his roots for Nishioka bout

Image: Donaire wants to get back to his roots for Nishioka boutBy Chris Williams: First it was Manny Pacquiao wanting to turn back the clock and now it’s IBF/WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (29-1, 18 KO’s) in wanting to back to the early stages of his boxing form for his fight this Saturday night against former WBC super bantamweight champion Toshiaki Nishioka (39-4-3, 24 KO’s) at the Home Depot Center, in Carson, California, USA.

Donaire said to Yahoo Sports News “Watching Andre [Ward], that made me realize that’s how I fight and that I needed to go back to the roots of who I am and how I fight.”

Donaire looking to show his power against Nishioka on Saturday

Image: Donaire looking to show his power against Nishioka on SaturdayBy Chris Williams: IBF/WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (29-1, 18 KO’s) has an old lion in front of him this Saturday night in facing 36-year-old Toshiaki Nishioka (39-4-3, 24 KO’s) on HBO at the Home Depot Center, in Carson, California, USA. Donaire claims that Nishioka is the best fighter in the super bantamweight division, but Donaire seems to be the only one that believes this because the general consensus around the internet boxing forums is that Nishioka has picked old gray lion and is trying to make more of the fight than there actually is.

The real tests for Donaire at super bantamweight are champions Abner Mares and Guillermo Rigondeaux, but Donaire has been going in different directions than them for some reason despite these guys wanting to fight him. We’re seeing Donaire vs. Jeffrey Mathebula, Donaire vs. Omar Narvaez and now Donaire vs. Nishioka.

Kellerman sees Donaire beating Nishioka, possibly by knockout

Image: Kellerman sees Donaire beating Nishioka, possibly by knockoutBy Allan Fox: Max Kellerman sees IBF/WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (29-1, 18 KO’s) as having too much talent, youth and power for 36-year-old former WBC super bantamweight champion Toshiaki Nishioka (34-4-3, 24 KO’s) to deal with in this advanced stage in his once career in their October 13th fight at the Home Depot Center, in Carson, California.

Kellerman said to Thaboxingvoice.com “He’s [Nishioka] a tremendous fighter, but he’s 36-years-old and Donaire is a special talent…Donaire might knock Nishioka out. I think he’s that good.”

Donaire-Nishioka: Can Nonito rediscover his lost power?

Image: Donaire-Nishioka: Can Nonito rediscover his lost power?By Chris Williams: Sometimes when fighters move up in weight they don’t bring their power up with them from the division that they departed from. This could be the case with IBF/WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (29-1, 18 KO’s), who at one time was a big puncher when he fought at flyweight, super flyweight and bantamweight. But since moving up to super bantamweight, Donaire has had a dry spell where he’s been unable to KO anyone in his two fights at this level.

Donaire fights former WBC super bantamweight champion Toshiaki Nishioka (39-4-3, 24 KO’s) this month for the vacant WBC super bantamweight Diamond title at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. Donaire, 29, could really use a knockout in this fight with the 36-year-old Nishioka because if he can’t get this guy out of there he’s going to end up taking a lot of nasty head shots from the Japanese fighter.

Donaire in potentially tough fight against Nishioka

By Chris Williams: It’s difficult to really get an accurate gauge on the October 13th fight between IBF/WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (29-1, 18 KO’s) and former WBC super bantamweight champion Toshiaki Nishioka (39-4-3, 24 KO’s) at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. The reason why it’s so difficult to get a handle on this fight is because the 36-year-old Nishioka is so highly ranked by Ring Magazine and the sanctioning bodies despite the fact that he looked absolutely horrible in his last fight and many of his fights during his career.

Rios – Alvarado, Donaire – Nishioka: Two good fights on October 13th on HBO

Image: Rios - Alvarado, Donaire - Nishioka: Two good fights on October 13th on HBOBy Dan Ambrose: Boxing fans will get a chance to see if former WBA World lightweight champion Brandon Rios (30-0-1, 22 KO’s) is for real or not at light welterweight when he takes on undefeated contender Mike Alvarado (33-0, 23 KO’s) in a WBO light welterweight title eliminator bout on October 13th at the Home Depot Center, in Carson, California, United States.

The Rios-Alvarado fight will be on the undercard of the match-up between former WBC super bantamweight champion Toshiaki Nishioka (39-4-3, 24 KO’s) and current IBF/WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (29-1, 18 KO’s).

Donaire-Nishioka: Nonito should win this fight based on youth

By Chris Williams: IBF/WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (29-1, 18 KO’s) will be taking a break from fighting world champions to instead defend his titles against an ex-WBC super bantamweight champion in Toshiaki Nishioka (39-4-3, 24 KO’s) next month on October 13th at the Home Depot Center, in Carson, California, United States. This move seems to be a dodge around the other top fighters in the super bantamweight division in Abner Mares and Guillermo Rigondeaux, as both of which appears to be easily fighting at a higher level than the aging Nishioka right now.

Donaire-Nishioka: Will Nonito finally fight Rigondeaux after he beats 36-year-old Toshiaki?

Image: Donaire-Nishioka: Will Nonito finally fight Rigondeaux after he beats 36-year-old Toshiaki?By Chris Williams: IBF/WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (29-1, 18 KO’s) will be fighting former WBC super bantamweight champion Toshiaki Nishioka (39-4-3, 24 KO’s) on October 13th at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. The World Boxing Council has been good enough to have their WBC Diamond strap on the line for this fight for some reason.

I think it’s way too premature for the Diamond belt to be on the line until Donaire proves he can beat younger, arguably much relevant fighters in WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux and WBC champion Abner Mares. These guys actually champions and not just a challenger like Nishioka. They’re also much better known in the United States than Nishioka is, which makes Donaire – and his promoters at Top Rank – decision to match Donaire against this guy instead of the better known fighters.
