Adamek to fight Grano on August 3rd

adamek45By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Tomasz Adamek (48-2, 29 KO’s) will be facing Tony Grano (20-3-1, 16 KO’s) on August 3rd in a scheduled 10 round bout at the Mohegan Sun Casino, in Uncasville, Connecticut. Adamek, #10 WBC, #11 IBF, saw his heavyweight ranking drop recently after he chose not to fight unbeaten Kubrat Pulev in an IBF heavyweight eliminator bout for a shot against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.

Adamek didn’t see the Pulev fight as a good financial move for him, as he felt he had bigger money fights to take. However, it’s very difficult to see a fight between Adamek and Grano as being a big money fight.

Tyson Fury options: Pulev or Adamek

fury11By Daniel Mcglinchey: Unbeaten Heavyweight sensation Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) is set to be out again in the summer to continue his journey on the way to Heavyweight stardom.

According to his uncle and trainer Peter Fury his options are Kubrat Pulev (17-0, 9 KO’s) or Tomasz Adamek (48-2, 29 KO’s) for his next bout according to Peter Fury’s social media site. Peter also mentioned David Haye. However, Haye recently signed to fight 2nd tier Manuel Charr, so he’s out of the picture.

Either Adamek or Pulev as an opponent for Tyson would generate massive interest from boxing fans around the world because they are both legitimate and established world class fighters.

Adamek to fight a top contender in May, possibly in U.S

adamek45By Allan Fox: #2 IBF, #11 WBC heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek (48-2, 29 KO’s) will reportedly be back in the ring to face a top 15 contender in May in a fight that could be staged in the United States. Adamek sees himself getting a world title shot if he wins his fight in May, according to Polish boxing news. HBO is expected to televise the fight.

For Adamek to get a title shot he’ll need one of the champions to select him from the other contenders because he recently turned down an IBF heavyweight eliminator bout against #1 IBF Kubrat Pulev. Had Adamek taken that fight and beaten Pulev, he’d be the IBF mandatory challenger for IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko. Adamek said it wasn’t a big enough fight for him, and that he had to think of his career to choose an opponent that would be a bigger fight.

Adamek turns down fight with Kubrat Pulev

adamek45By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Tomasz Adamek (48-2, 29 KO’s) has decided not to face #1 IBF heavyweight contender Kubrat Pulev (17-0, 9 KO’s) in an IBF eliminator bout to determine a mandatory challenger for IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko. Adamek says he got a better off of bigger money to fight in his native Poland.

Adamek said “I have been offered an opportunity to fight in Poland for more money than I would get for fighting Kubrat Pulev. Meaning no disrespect to Pulev, he has never held a major title and never headlined a televised card. Any money generated by the promotion would, for the most part, be generated by my popularity.

Is Tomas Adamek ready to fight for the heavyweight title in 2013?

adamek45By Dan Ambrose: #3 IBF, #9 WBA, Tomasz Adamek (48-2, 29 KO’s) is close to becoming the mandatory challenger for IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in 2013, if Adamek can beat undefeated 6’4 ½” Kubrat Pulev this year in their IBF eliminator bout for the #1 mandatory position. However, Adamek has looked poor recently in winning two out of his last three fights by huge controversy in victories over Eddie Chambers and Steve Cunningham.

Adamek looked like he lost both of those fights, and even if you give benefit of the doubt and say he won, he still looked awful in both. Adamek didn’t look ready to fight either of the Klitschkos, and we already saw what happened when he fought Vitali Klitschko in September 2011. Adamek was toyed with and taken out in the 10th round in perhaps Vitali’s easiest fights since he recaptured the World Boxing Council heavyweight title in 2008 with a win over Samuel Peter.

The Worst decisions in 2012: Abril-Rios, Adamek-Chambers, Adamek-Cunningham

rios434By Dan Ambrose: I must say that heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek (48-2, 29 KO’s) has been quite lucky in 2012 with his very controversial decision wins over Eddie Chambers and Steve Cunningham. Those two fights along with former WBA World lightweight champion Brandon Rios’s win over Richard Abril has got to the worst decisions in 2012 among well-known fighters.

Rios (31-0-1, 23 KO’s) was given a split decision over Abril on April 14th of this year at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight, seen by thousands of people, was completely dominated by Abril for the entire 12 rounds of the fight. Rios fought well enough to deserve maybe two rounds at the most, as he was getting with clean pinpoint shots from the Cuban Abril throughout the fight and was like watching Floyd Mayweather Jr. pick apart a limited Ricky Hatton.

Adamek dropped from #3 to #5 in Ring Ratings despite win over Cunningham

adamek45By Dan Ambrose: Ring Magazine has decided to drop former two division world champion Tomasz Adamek (48-2, 29 KO’s) from the number #3 to the #5 spot in their heavyweight rankings after his very controversial 12 round split decision victory over Steve Cunningham (25-5, 12 KO’s) last Saturday night.

The Ring factored in Adamek’s other recent controversial decision win over a one-armed Eddie Chambers as well as Adamek’s struggles to beat 2nd tier fighters Travis Walker and Nagy Aguilera recently, and they concluded that he needed to be dropped down in the rankings to #5 because he’s simply not fighting at a high level right now. Winning fights by controversial decisions obviously haven’t helped Adamek.

Adamek won’t get past Pulev

pulev86By Dan Ambrose: Tomasz Adamek (48-2, 29 KO’s) better enjoy his controversial 12 round split decision win over Steven Cunningham (25-5, 12 KO’s) for as long as possible because the party will be over for Adamek in his next fight when he faces unbeaten #1 IBF Kubrat Pulev (17-0, 9 KO’s) in the final International Boxing Federation heavyweight eliminator bout in early 2013 to determine who will become the mandatory challenger for IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.

Adamek, 36, is starting to show serious signs of aging in his last three fights against Eddie Chambers, Travis Walker and Steve Cunningham. A lot of boxing fans think that Adamek lost to both Chambers and Cunningham, and I’m in full agreement with them. I thought Adamek looked slow in those fights and was beaten to the punch all night long.

Cunningham unhappy with loss to Adamek, feels he got robbed

cunningham32By Dan Ambrose: Former IBF cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham (25-5, 12 KO’s) isn’t too happy about being on the receiving end of a controversial 12 round split decision loss to Tomasz Adamek (48-2, 29 KO’s) last night at the Sands Casino Resort in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

The decision by two of the judges to give Adamek the fight by the scores of 115-113 and 116-112, has really shaken up the boxing world because few people saw Adamek winning that fight and it’s pretty bad when you have judges that go against the mainstream opinion like in this fight. One of the judges gave Cunningham the fight by a 115-113 score, but his pick was cancelled out by the other two judges.

Adamek to face Kubrat Pulev next in IBF final eliminator

pulev56By Allan Fox: IBF North American heavyweight champion Tomasz Adamek (48-2, 29 KO’s) really lucked out tonight in beating Steve Cunningham (25-5, 12 KO’s) by a 12 round split decision in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Not too many boxing fans saw the 36-year-old Adamek as the winner of the fight, and he’s pretty lucky that he had a couple of judges that saw him as the winner of the fight because a different set of judges likely would have gone with Cunningham as the winner because he did appear to out-box Adamek in this fight.

For Adamek, it’s his controversial win in his last three fights. He won a controversial 12 round decision over Eddie Chambers earlier this year with perhaps just as many angry boxing fans feeling that he’d been given a gift decision over Chambers.
