Bradley looks improved under Atlas, not enough against Pacquiao

bradley833By Godfrey Falcon: Timothy Bradley (33-2-1, 13 KOs) entered the ring last Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada for his second fight under trainer Teddy Atlas. After a sensational performance against Brandon Rios in his prior bout last November, two fights against Manny Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KOs), and the typical mental steel he enters the ring with, he had every tool necessary at his disposal to defeat the Filipino phenomenon.

Bradley looked good, and he looked smart, jabbing frequently to keep Manny wary of rushing in and taking advantage of Manny’s mistakes. This Tim Bradley did look like the best Tim Bradley that Manny had ever gone up against, worthy of his inclusion in the Top 10 Pound-for-Pound Boxers of today status. But sadly, and even unexpectedly, it was not enough.

Roach wants Pacquiao to continue his career

pac55By Allan Fox: Manny Pacquiao disappointed many of his boxing fans last Saturday night by revealing that he’ll be retiring from boxing. Pacquiao went out on a high note in defeating Tim Bradley (33-2-1, 13 KOs) by a 12 round unanimous decision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the final seconds of the 12th round, Pacquiao appeared to hurt Bradley with a big left hand to the head that sent Bradley face first through the ropes. Bradley was able to regain his composure somewhat as the last second ticked off in the round. However, he was clearly staggered by the shot.

Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach believes that Pacquiao still has a lot left in the tank, and he doesn’t see why he needs to retire right now because he still has enough left to win a couple of more fights before he should retire.

Pacquiao-Bradley punch stats

pac4923By Allan Fox: Despite beating Tim Bradley (33-2-1, 13 KOs) by a clear 12 round unanimous decision last Saturday night, Manny Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KOs) only had a slight edge in connected punches in their fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main difference between the two fighters is the power and the speed of Pacquiao’s shots.

Pacquiao was landing his shots with a lot of force behind them compared to the slower, weaker punches from the 32-year-old Bradley. You could hear Pacquiao’s punches land, and you couldn’t hear Bradley’s nearly as well.

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2 probably never to happen now

pac333By Chris Williams: With Manny Pacquiao announcing his retirement last Saturday night following his 12 round unanimous decision win over Tim Bradley in Las Vegas, we may have seen any chance of a rematch between Manny and Floyd Mayweather Jr. float outside the door.

Pacquiao says the chances of him fighting again are “50-50,” but you can imagine how hard it’s going to be for him to make a comeback when/if he takes over as a senator in the Philippines. That’s a hard job that requires a lot of daily meetings and tons of stress. Pacquiao is pretty well preserved for 37. Just watch how he ages from the stress of politics and having to attend tons of boring meetings with fellow politics. I wouldn’t be surprised if Pacquiao has all silver hair within the next six years in office.

Will Bradley send Pacquiao into retirement with a loss?

bradley7575By Chris Williams: Tim Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) will be looking to finish off former eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) and send him into retirement with a final defeat on his resume. Pacquiao has been saying that he wants/needs a win in his final fight of his career tonight before he goes off into a life of politics in the Philippines.

If Bradley can beat Pacquiao tonight in their third fight, he will have essentially put the 37-year-old Pacquiao out of his misery. The win will make fans see Bradley as the more talented of the two fighters, and the guy that would have won all three fights in their series if he had the genius Teddy Atlas at the controls giving him the right game plan for each fight.

Weights: Pacquiao 145.5, Bradley 146.5

pac644By Jim Dower: Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) made weight on Friday for his third fight against Tim Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) for this Saturday night on HBO pay-per-view from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum and trainer Freddie Roach have been talking up a fight between Pacquiao and WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez for the past two weeks. They’ve been talking more about Canelo vs. Pacquiao than the Bradley fight. It gives one the impression that Canelo’s name has been used to help attract interest/pay-per-view buys for the Pacquiao-Bradley 3 fight. It’s proven that if boxing fans think a much bigger fight is just over the horizon, they’ll be more interested in paying to see a less than appealing fight like this Saturday’s contest because Pacquiao and Bradley.

Pacquiao weighed in at 145.5 pounds, and looked in great shape if not small for the welterweight division. Bradley, who previously fought at light welterweight, weighed in just a little heavier than Pacquiao at 146.5lbs.
