Kell Brook: Let’s see how Porter does against a young lion like me

brook7777By Scott Gilfoid: No.1 WBO 147lb contender Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KO’s) saw IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter’s 4th round TKO win over Paulie Malignaggi last Saturday night. Brook says it was a good performance from Porter, but he thinks it’ll be a different story with him when he faces Porter. Malignaggi, 33, is clearly nearing the end of his career and not the fighter he once was. With the 27-year-old Brook, he’s still not yet cut his teeth on 1st tier opposition after 10 years as a pro.

Brook said this on his twitter about Porter’s performance: “Great performance @ShowtimeShawnP let’s see how you are with me! who is also a young lion! #AndTheNew.”

Porter is all wrong for Kell Brook

porter02By Daniel Hughes: Over here in the UK the Shawn Porter-Paulie Malignaggi fight drew a lot of media attention for several reasons. Malignaggi is very popular here, because his analytical boxing breakdown of fights as much as his technical skills admired. He’s a fantastic talker a big career ahead in the media world awaits.

The fact Kell Brook was awaiting the winner added to the intrigue. We now know who he will face. Brook speaking in the build up to Saturday night’s fight made no real secret of who he wanted to face ‘The Magic Man’, for many reasons now apparent to those who saw the dismantling of Malignaggi in Washington.

Porter, Malignaggi, and the Leaping Left Hook

malignaggi133By Michael Byrne: As everyone is now aware, Saturday night’s ‘History at the Capitol’ show was stolen by IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KO’s) as he destroyed Paulie Malignaggi (33-6, 7 KO’s) in four rounds at the DC Armory in Washington, DC. Malignaggi is probably finished as far as world-title boxing goes, and so we should take a brief moment to congratulate the man on a fantastic career: from his all-out war with Miguel Cotto in 2006, to beating Lovemore N’Dou in his second shot at a title, two great displays of boxing against Juan Diaz (in which he deserved two victories), coming back from the loss to Amir Khan and moving up to 147 to beat Vyacheslav Senchenko to become a two-weight world champion.

Kell Brook will have big problems with Shawn Porter

porter2By Scott Gilfoid: After seeing how easily IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KO’s) dispatched former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi (33-6, 7 KO’s) last night in Porter’s 4th round TKO win at the DC Armory in Washington, DC., I think No.1 IBF Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KO’s) is going to have major problems trying to beat him.

Not only will Brook have to leave his home country of the UK to take the fight in the United States, but he’s going to have to figure out how to fight on the inside against the brawling Porter. I don’t think that’s humanely possible for Brook to do in one training camp. Brook struggled in his first fight against Carson Jones in 2012 when the American smothered Brook’s offense and forced him to fight on the inside for long stretches.

Can Shawn Porter be the next big thing?

porter1I recently started following IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KO’s). For the looks of it hes not a bad fighter. What caught my attention was his victory against Devon Alexander last December, a fighter which has only been beaten once aside from his lose to Shawn. Last night, I saw Porter completely destroy Paulie Malignaggi (33-6, 7 KO’s) in four rounds.

Now as we all know Malignaggi is a good fighter, but hes not good enough to be in the ranks of Keith Thurman, Marcos Maidana, Juan Manuel Marquez or Manny Pacquiao. But when I think of fighters like Malignaggi, I think of fighters like Zab Judah or Amir Khan. These type of fighters are the ones that are somewhat of a milestone for any boxer that is trying to be an elite icon or a world champion (in other words if you beat one of these guys you have potential to beat the top contenders).

Porter destroys Malignaggi in 4 rounds

malignaggi34By Dan Ambrose: IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0, 15 KO’s) destroyed former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi (33-6, 7 KO’s) by a 4th round TKO on Saturday night at the DC Armory in Washington, DC. Malignaggi took a real beating in this fight, and was cut in the 1st round from a jab.

Porter knocked a bloodied Malignagi down in the 4th round with a chopping right hand to the head. After Malignaggi got back up, Porter mowed Malignaggi down with a flurry of shots to put him down on his back for the second time in the round. However, it looked like Porter bumped Malignaggi to the canvas after hitting him with a hard right hand to the head. The referee then stepped in and halted the fight.

Malignaggi: Porter has to make it a rugged fight because he can’t box with me

malign52525By Chris Williams: Former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi (3-5, 7 KO’s) isn’t worried at all about his title shot against IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (23-0-1, 14 KO’s) this Saturday night, because he doesn’t see the former Manny Pacquiao sparring partner as having the talent to compete with him in their fight. Porter and Malignaggi will be fighting on the undercard of the Bernard Hopkins vs. Beibut Shumenov fight at the DC Armory in Washington, DC.

“The more Shawn tries the more he’s going to pay and then we’ll see if it goes the distance,” Malignaggi said at today’s weigh-in. “I think Shawn knows he’s not the more talented fighter of the two. Shawn knows he’s got to make it a rugged fight because he can’t box with me.”

Kell Brook will likely need to travel to U.S to fight Porter-Malignaggi winner

brook3By Scott Gilfoid: #1 IBF contender Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KO’s) will likely need to make one of his rare trips outside of the UK to fight on foreign soil if he wants to get a chance at facing the winner of this Saturday’s match-up between IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (23-0-1, 14 KO’s) and challenger Paulie Malignaggi (33-5, 7 KO’s) at the DC Armory, in Washington, District of Columbia, USA.

The 26-year-old Porter, who is the favorite to hold onto his IBF title on Saturday, isn’t going to travel to the UK to defend his title in front of Brook’s fans. That’s just not going to happen. Porter isn’t going to want to put himself into a situation where he might need to knock Brook out cold just to make sure he gets the win, so Brook is probably going to have to pack his suitcase for this fight.

Malignaggi: I don’t rate Pacquiao as a good fighter

malign1By Chris Williams: Earlier today, Paulie Malignaggi (33-5, 7 KO’s) took a shot at Manny Pacquiao after IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (23-0-1, 14 KO’s) bragged about having been his sparring partner in the past. Porter was giving a reason why he felt he’ll beat Malignaggi on April 19th in their fight at the DC Armory, Washington, District of Columbia.

Porter said this as quoted by RingTV: “Sparring with Manny Pacquiao. There’s no better blueprint than that. The guy’s got the quickest hands in the business, so I have all the experience and what it takes to beat Paulie.”

By Allan Fox: IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (23-0-1, 14 KO’s) feels that he knows exactly what to do in order to beat former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi (33-5, 7 KO’s) in their fight on Showtime on April 19th at the DC Armory, in Washington, District of Columbia, USA. Porter, 26, plans on taking the fight to the 33-year-old Malignaggi to make him uncomfortable.
