Arreola blows out Mitchell in one round

INDIO, Calif. (Sept. 7, 2013) – Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola made short work of Seth Mitchell, dispatching the younger fighter in just 2-minutes 26-seconds of round one in the main event of Saturday’s SHOWTIME BOXING: Special Edition from Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif. In the co-feature, Efrain Esquivias stopped Mexican legend Rafael Marquez in the ninth round of their 10-round junior featherweight bout.

Arreola of nearby Riverside, Calif., came into the fight feeling that Mitchell was out of his league. And he proved it.

A well-conditioned and poised Arreola landed a clubbing right hand in one of the first exchanges of the bout. Mitchell was stunned and already on wobbly legs. Following a push down, and moments later a clean knockdown, veteran referee Jack Reiss halted the action late in the round as Mitchell was unable to defend himself against the power punches of “The Nightmare”.

Arreola battles Mitchell tonight

Seth Mitchell and Chris Arreola(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Allan Fox: It’s a make it or break it fight for big Chris Arreola (35-3, 30 KO’s) tonight against former college football player Seth Mitchell (26-1-1, 19 KO’s) on SHOWTIME from the Fantasy Springs Casino, in Indio, California, USA.

Arreola lost his last fight to Bermane Stiverne last April, and the fact that he’s fighting in another bout to put him on course for a world title shot against the WBC heavyweight champion tells you that someone up there likes Arreola.

Arreola’s being given another chance, and he can’t afford to blow it this time because a lot in this fight will definitely hurt his rankings.

Weigh-in: Arreola-Mitchell both weigh 242 lbs.

Chris Arreola(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Eric Thomas: Former heavyweight title challenger Chris Arreola (35-3, 30 KO’s) came in at 242 lbs. at today’s weigh-in for his important fight on Saturday night against Seth Mitchell (26-1-1, 19 KO’s) at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California. Mitchell also weighed in at 242 lbs., but he looked a lot more solid than Arreola for the fight. 242 lbs. is light for Arreola, but he’s not the type of fighter that is muscular for his weight.

Even at 242 lbs., Arreola looked to be carrying 30 pounds of fat on his frame. If you take that weight off, Arreola is more of a small heavyweight in the same neighborhood as the 209 lb. Steve Cunningham.

Arreola: I’m going to embarrass Seth Mitchell

Chris Arreola(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Allan Fox: Chris Arreola (35-3, 30 KO’s) wants to beat Seth Mitchell (26-1-1, 19 KO’s) bad enough to embarrass him this Saturday night in their fight at the Fantasy Springs Casino, in Indio, California, USA. Arreola is so confident that he’s going to beat Mitchell that he’s saying he might retire if he loses to him.

Arreola sees the fight as a mismatch, and it bothers him that he’s fighting a guy has once was a football player. Arreola doesn’t like that Mitchell switched sports in his 20s from football to boxing, because Arreola has been boxing most of his life, and he doesn’t think it’s possible for guys to step into boxing from another sport and succeed.

The 32-year-old Arreola, #3 WBC, is trying to bounce back from a crippling 12 round unanimous decision loss to Bermane Stiverne from last April. Arreola suffered a nose injury early in that fight, and was knocked to the canvas in the 3rd round.

Deontay Wilder: Arreola and Mitchell are perfect for my style

003WildervictoryIMG_3358(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Scott Gilfoid: Deontay Wilder (29-0, 29 KO’s) is really looking forward to getting the winner of the Chris Arreola vs. Seth Mitchell fight in the ring so that he blast them apart in one or two rounds like Deontay did in destroying Sergei Liakhovich in one round last night in Indio, California.

Deontay sees Arreola and Mitchell as being tailor-made for his fighting style. In other words, these guys come straight forward looking to punch, and they would make it easy for the 6’7” Deontay to line them up for a right hand power shot.

According to RingTV, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer wants to match Deontay against the winner of the September 6th fight between former heavyweight title challenger Chris Arreola and Seth Mitchell. This would be a pretty big step up from Liakhovich, if Deontay were to fight Arreola.
