Pacquiao could potentially be going up against the winner of Cotto-Martinez bout.

pac7848By Daven: Following his dominant victory over Tim Bradley in April, there has been many names touted around in regards to Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent. The usual suspects such as Marquez, Alvarado, Ruslan Provodnikov and Mikey Garcia have all been floated. However over the weekend a source close to Bob Arum leaked the names of Miguel Cotto and Sergio Martinez. If the fight was to take place it would be for the WBC middleweight championship, amazingly this would present Manny the chance of acquiring a ninth divisional world title belt.

Although, as of now nothing has been finalized, a fight featuring Pacquiao-Martinez or a rematch with Cotto would be a big seller. Moreover it would be truly fascinating to see, especially if it ends up being Martinez-Pacquiao owing to Sergio’s far superior height in contrast to Pacquiao. Naturally any potential fight for the WBC belt for Manny would have to be at a catch-weight of around 155lbs.

Arum interested in matching Pacquiao against Sergio Martinez and Cotto

pac45By Chris Williams: If Manny Pacquiao signs an extension with Bob Arum’s Top Rank promotional company, we could be seeing the 35-year-old Pacquiao in with Miguel Cotto, Sergio Martinez, Mike Alvarado, Ruslan Provodnikov and Juan Manuel Marquez, says Arum to RingTV.

Those are the guys the fights that Arum has in store for Manny if he chooses to stay with his Top Rank company. Arum didn’t say anything about wanting to match Pacquiao up against Brandon Rios and Tim Bradley again, but you’ve got to assume that one or both of those fighters will wind up in the ring with Pacquiao again.

Canelo’s trainer wants Cotto fight in late 2014

canelo76By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA/WBC light middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (43-1-1, 31 KO’s) hasn’t beaten his next scheduled opponent WBA light middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12 KO’s) yet, and already Canelo’s trainer Jose “Chepo” Reynoso is looking past that fight for a much hoped for clash against Miguel Cotto (38-4, 31 KO’s) for later on this year.

Cotto has an important fight on June 7th against WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez at Madison Square Garden in New York, and there’s no telling how Cotto will do in that fight. He could very well come apart like he did in his losses to Antonio Margarito and Manny Pacquiao.

Yuri Foreman vs. Jorge Melendez possible for Cotto-Martinez undercard

foreman4334By Dan Ambrose: A fight between former WBA World junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman (32-2, 9 KO’s) and Jorge Melendez (28-3-1, 26 KO’s) is being talked about for the June 7th undercard of the Miguel Cotto vs. Sergio Martinez fight, according to Dan Rafael. The card is still being formed at this point, but it’s looking too good as far as undercard fights go.

HBO will be televising this on pay-per-view from Madison Square Garden, in New York. If the Foreman-Melendez fight does get added to the card, it has a good chance of being to co-feature based on the other three fighters they have on the undercard.

Maidana can beat Mayweather, says Sergio Martinez

By Allan Fox: WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez says he’s really surprised that WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) agreed to face Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) in their fight on May 3rd, because Martinez sees Maidana as a really tough fight for the 36-year-old Mayweather. Sergio sees the pressure that Maidana will be putting on Mayweather for the full 12 rounds of the fight will be difficult for him to cope with in this fight.

“Well it’s a very tough fight for Mayweather who is great beyond his years, but I’m surprised he took such a tough matchup because Maidana is a machine, he won’t stop coming and I think he can get the win for Argentina,” Martinez said to the Boxingsocialist.

Sergio Martinez: Cotto’s only fighting me because he thinks my knee is damaged

martinez452By Dan Ambrose: WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (51-2-2, 28 KO’s) expects to ruin the goal of Miguel Cotto (38-4, 31 KO’s) of him winning a fourth division world title when they meet each other in two months on June 7th on HBO pay-per-view at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York. Sergio has no doubts in his mind that he’ll be knocking Cotto out, and keeping his World Boxing Council 160lb title.

Martinez thinks that the only reason why the 33-year-old Cotto wants to fight him now is because he thinks his knee is still hurt from his last two fights against Martin Murray and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, and wants to take advantage of this. Martinez says his knee is now 100% after he’s rested it and had it repaired.

Cotto increasing muscle for Sergio Martinez fight

cotto552By Dan Ambrose: Freddie Roach, the trainer for Miguel Cotto (38-4, 31 KO’s), is having him bulk up for his June 7th title challenge against WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (51-2-2, 28 KO’s) at Madison Square Garden in New York. Cotto is already a big fighter who weighs in for his junior middleweight fights in the 160s, but Roach wants Cotto, 5’7”, to add more muscle so that he can compete better against the 5’10” Martinez for the fight.

“Miguel began preparing on Sunday,” said Bryan Perez, the executive director of Miguel Cotto Promotions to ESPN Deportes. “Originally we were going to start on April 14. That was the date, but when we met Freddie, he decided that he wanted us to start on March 30th for the preparation to get a base, and that’s what we’re doing. Miguel obeyed the order. Freddie has a plan well designed to increase muscle mass, and Miguel is already working on it.”

Maidana’s power gives him a chance to beat Mayweather, says Martinez

maidana5434By Allan Fox: WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) has the power in his two fists to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) in their Showtime pay-per-view fight on May 3rd, according to Sergio Martinez. He knows what Maidana is capable of doing if he can connect with his big punches from watching many of his past fights, and he thinks he could pull off a major upset against the Broner-like Mayweather Jr.

“Maidana has two bricks in his hands and all the chances to win,” Sergio said to Inforegion.com.ar.
