By Daven: Following his dominant victory over Tim Bradley in April, there has been many names touted around in regards to Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent. The usual suspects such as Marquez, Alvarado, Ruslan Provodnikov and Mikey Garcia have all been floated. However over the weekend a source close to Bob Arum leaked the names of Miguel Cotto and Sergio Martinez. If the fight was to take place it would be for the WBC middleweight championship, amazingly this would present Manny the chance of acquiring a ninth divisional world title belt.
Although, as of now nothing has been finalized, a fight featuring Pacquiao-Martinez or a rematch with Cotto would be a big seller. Moreover it would be truly fascinating to see, especially if it ends up being Martinez-Pacquiao owing to Sergio’s far superior height in contrast to Pacquiao. Naturally any potential fight for the WBC belt for Manny would have to be at a catch-weight of around 155lbs.
