Frampton-Quigg two-fight deal possible for Manchester and Belfast

quigg6666By Scott Gilfoid: WBA World super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg’s promoter Eddie Hearn has made an offer to IBF super bantamweight Carl Frampton to try and get the fight made between them. Hearn’s offer to Frampton and his management team is as follow: They have a two-fight deal with the first fight taking place in Quigg’s home city next November, and then the second fight being staged in Frampton’s home city of Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Frankly, it’s a better deal for Quigg than it is for Frampton, because with the first fight being staged in Manchester, it gives him the better chance of winning due to it being his home venue.

Frampton wants Quigg to remember he’s the boss

frampton3By Scott Gilfoid: IBF super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton gave WBA champ Scott Quigg a not so subtle reminder that if he wants to put a fight together against him, he’s going to have to recognize that he’s the A-side in the equation.

Frampton wants Quigg to know this ahead of time so that if/when Quigg and his promoter Eddie Hearn decide to start negotiating with him, his manager Barry McGuigan and adviser Al Haymon, he’ll need to not try and ask for too much at the negotiating table.

Donaire-Quigg fight possible for November or December

quigg89By Scott Gilfoid: Unless Carl Frampton and his manager Barry McGuigan step up to the plate to negotiate a contract soon, WBA World super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg (31-0-2, 23 KOs) could wind up facing former four division world champion Nonito Donaire (35-3, 23 KOs) later this year.

Quigg’s promoter Eddie Hearn wants to match Quigg against the 32-year-old Donaire in November or December of this year if he can work out a deal with Donaire’s promoters at Top Rank. However, they want to have Donaire face Quigg in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, but Hearn is looking to stage the fight in Manchester, where Quigg has a huge fan base and can attract large crowds of people to come see him fight.

Hearn in talks for Rigondeaux vs. Quigg fight in 2015

quigg6666By Scott Gilfoid: Gary Hyde, the manager for WBA/WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (15-0, 10 KOs), says that he’s in talks with Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn for a fight between Rigondeaux and WBA World 122lb champion Scott Quigg (31-0-2, 23 KOs) for a fight that could take place this year. Hyde says Rigondeaux wouldn’t have any issues with fighting Quigg in Manchester, UK.

Personally, I can’t see Hearn letting his prize, Scott Quigg, take on a talent like Rigondeaux. If anything, we might see the fight happen in another three to four years, depending on how the 34-year-old Rigondeaux ages.

Perez-Crolla ends in draw; Quigg destroys Martinez; Murray stops Bajrektarevic

martinez111By Scott Gilfoid: Referee Howard Foster inserted himself into the fight in the 11th and 12th rounds, taking off points from Darleys Perez (33-1-1, 20 KOs) for low blows, resulting in his fight against #11 WBA fringe contender Anthony Crolla (29-5-2 11 KOs) being scored a 12 round draw on Saturday night at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK.

The final judges’ scores were 114-113 for Perez, 116-111 for Crolla and 113-113. I had Perez winning the fight 10 rounds to 2. I didn’t buy the low blow stuff that went on in the 11th and 12th. It was a case of Crolla pulling Perez’s head down while he was throwing punches, and I didn’t see how the referee could have taken points off from that. But besides that, Perez won both the 11th and 12th rounds on my card, so they were even rounds.

Hearn to sweeten offer for Frampton to face Quigg

hearn2By Scott Gilfoid: Eddie Hearn, the promoter for WBA World super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg, will reportedly be sweetening an offer to IBF 122lb champion Carl Frampton to get him to possibly agree to a fight against Quigg in the near future. Hearn will be making the offer this weekend in hopes of putting the fight together.

It’s going to have to be an offer that is slanted in favor of Frampton, because he and his manager Barry McGuigan see themselves as the A-side in the negotiations, and they don’t intend on taking the fight unless the purse split is in their favor.

Weights: Quigg-Martinez, Perez-Crolla & Murray-Bajretarevic

crolla2(Photo credit: Thompson Boxing) By Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated WBA “regular” super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg (30-0-2, 22 KOs) made weight on Friday for his title defense against #11 WBA fringe contender Kiko Martinez (32-5, 24 KOs) for their fight this Saturday night at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK.

Quigg weighed in at 121.75lbs. His opponent came in at 121.6. It’s difficult to get really excited about the Quigg-Martinez match-up because Martinez has beaten twice by Carl Frampton. I’m not sure what the purpose was in Quigg’s promoter Eddie Hear matching him against an opponent who has lost 2 out of his last 3 fights in Martinez, but whatever the case it’s not interesting.

Donaire looking forward to Quigg fight

donaireBy Scott Gilfoid: Nonito Donaire (34-3, 22 KOs) is in a good position to pick up an easy strap against WBA World super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg (30-0-2, 22 KOs) later this year in Dubai if Donaire can get past his opponent Anthony Settoul (20-3, 8 KOs) on July 18th at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.

Quigg will need to beat his opponent Kiko Martinez on July 18th, which is no given, for the Donaire-Quigg fight to have a chance of taking place.

Quigg’s promoter Eddie Hearn will need to agree to let him take the fight with Donaire. That right there could be the one hang-up for the fight between Donaire and Quigg to take place, because there’s no telling whether Hearn will let the fight take place between them.

Arum wants Donaire vs. Quigg in Dubai

quigg43By Scott Gilfoid: If WBA World super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg (30-0-2, 22 KOs) can get past Kiko Martinez in their fight on July 18th in Manchester, we could see Quigg facing former four division world champ Nonito Donaire (34-3, 22 KOs) later this year in a fight that Donaire’s promoter Bob Arum wants to stage in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, according to Philboxing.com.

Donaire, 32, will have to win his fight on July 18th against Anthony Settoul at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, in Macao, Macao S.A.R., China. Arum feels that a fight between Donaire and Quigg might be more doable than trying to match Donaire against IBF super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton.

Quigg interested in Donaire fight after Kiko Martinez

donaire75By Scott Gilfoid: If WBA World super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg (30-0-2, 22 KOs) gets past former IBF 122lb champion Kiko Martinez (32-5, 24 KOs) in their fight on July 18th, Quigg could be facing former four division world champion Nonito Donaire (34-3, 22 KOs) in his next fight after that.

Donaire has a fight scheduled against France’s Anthony Settoul (20-3, 8 KOs) on July 18th at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, in Macao, Macao S.A.R., China. If Donaire wins his fight and Quigg beats Martinez in their fight at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK, then we could be seeing Donaire and Quigg mixing it up.
