By Dan Ambrose: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (26-0, 23 KO’s) reportedly wants to face WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) after Golovkin gets finished dispatching contender Matthew Macklin (29-4, 20 KO’s) on June 29th in their fight at the MGM Grand at the Foxwoods Resort, in Mashantucket, Connecticut.
Golovkin, 31, says he’ll even come down to 154 lbs. to make the fight easier for the 22-year-old Canelo to make. Now the question is whether Canelo and his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions will agree to take the fight with Golovkin or if they’ll see this as too dangerous of a fight because Golovkin would likely rehydrate to the mid-160s and that wouldn’t give Canelo much of a weight advantage like he’d have if he fought Floyd Mayweather Jr.
