Canelo sparring with Mosley Jr. to get ready for Mayweather

alvarez45324By Dan Ambrose: One of the sparring partners that WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) has been using to get ready for his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) next month on September 14th is Shane Mosley Jr., the son of former three division world champion Shane Mosley.

Why Canelo would choose to use the 6’1”, 165 lb. Mosley Jr. to get ready for the 5’8”, 150 lb. Mayweather is anyone’s guess.

Mosley Sr. told RingTV “They’re doing pretty good. He’s sparred with him like four times in Big Bear already, and he’s doing good. Canelo’s been there about two weeks now, maybe.”

Canelo Alvarez: A Proven Fighter

alvarez45By Sal Arteaga: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is currently the WBC, WBA, and Ring Magazine Light Middleweight Champion. He’s defeated 42 opponents, 30 of them by knockout, and has yet to experience the bitter taste of defeat. However these accomplishments, in the eyes of some, hold no merit. They’re viewed as victories against second rated boxers. This logic is flawed, and baseless.

Canelo Alvarez is set to fight arguably the best boxer in the sport today in Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) on September 14th. This alone is an accomplishment in itself. To be given the opportunity to face the pound-for-pound king is considered an honor and a measurement of one’s abilities.

Floyd Mayweather v Saul Alvarez: The One

canelo vs mayweather(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Gary Todd: It’s been billed as “The One” , and hyped as being the biggest , richest fight ever, and with the tickets being sold out in minutes and ringside seats now selling at a hefty $35,000 each, this event looks like being just that.

That being said, I just can’t believe the hype for this fight. I have been following the sport of boxing for 30 years, and through those years, I have been to the super fights, the undisputed , unification fights, and I have been lucky enough to witness many brutal wars, and being there when everyone in the crowd were on their feet the whole fight, and then refusing to leave the arena at the end.

Mayweather vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez: A Look at the Circumstantial Evidence

canelo454452By Donald Crisp: The time-tested adage “styles make fights” is the first line of defense to this entire article.  The purpose of this article is not to defy that adage.  Instead, the purpose is to attempt to pave a road, however small that road may be, that leads to the very real possibility that WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) may prove to be a tough, if not the toughest, opponent for Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s).

Many have already boarded this long-departed train.  Yet some persist in their thoughts that Canelo is simply “another one” that Mayweather will steamroll.  Bear with me:  my method in this article is unorthodox, I confess,  but if nothing else, it gives you something to think about.

Mayweather vs. Canelo: The dice is cast

floyd1111By Babatis Banda: The dice has been cast. All we need to do is wait and see on which side it falls. This is arguably the biggest fight since Mayweather/Delahoya fight, and it is interesting to see that Floyd will be involved in two of the biggest fights in the sport in his career.

I am not surprised with the hype this fight has brought up, it is nearly as polarizing as the Mayweather/Pacquiao controversy. What has actually happened is that all the Pacquiao supporters have shifted camp, they are on the Mexican’s side in the hope that Canelo does the job, beat up Mayweather for them.

Cain Velasquez picks Canelo to beat Mayweather on September 14th

008CanelosignsautographsIMG_3366(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velazquez thinks WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) will pull out a victory over Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) in their fight next month on September 14th in Las Vegas, Nevada. Velasquez thinks the 23-year-old Canelo badly wants to beat Mayweather, and he wants the success that will come with beating boxing’s #1 fighter.

Velasquez said to esnewsboxing.com when asked who will win the Mayweather-Canelo fight: “Canelo. He’s hungry; he’s got a lot of skills.”

I don’t think that’s going to be enough for Canelo to win. Being hungry is nice, but then again so has 44 other guys that Mayweather has fought. Every guy he faces is hungry. Canelo is no different in that regard. As far as skills go, Canelo doesn’t have the skills that Mayweather has, and it’s not even close.

It won’t be easy for Mayweather to beat Canelo

may332By Salvador Arteaga: This is a rebuttal to the author of “How Mayweather beats Alvarez easily”, is. I want to tell him he is absurdly wrong. If Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) does win, it won’t be easily. He is unjustly discrediting Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s), and is categorizing him as a second rate boxer. Canelo is currently an undefeated champion, and is on the verge of defeating the proclaimed best pound-for-pound boxer.

Mayweather is rightfully great, and deserves praise for his accomplishments, but Canelo deserves the same respect. His record is similar to that of Mayweather’s and he’s done so by beating some of the same opponents Mayweather did. If you discredit Canelo’s record then you discredit Mayweather’s by default. The reason I state the Mayweather-Canelo match will be closer than many predict is purely based on skill and past performance.

Dana White predicts Mayweather will beat Canelo by decision

Mayweather and Canelo faceoff(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: UFC president Dana White is picking Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) to defeat WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Caneo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) on September 14th. White didn’t say much about the fight other than predicting Mayweather Jr. will win a decision. He’s obviously seen enough of the flat-footed Canelo to know that he’s out of his class against Mayweather.

White said to esnewsreporting.com “Floyds going to do what Floyd does and win on points.”

I have to agree with Dana. Mayweather’s not going to get in the trenches and try and beat a fighter as big as Canelo by a knockout. I think Mayweather would attempt to do it if Canelo was closer to his own weight, but with red-haired Mexican fighter likely weighing in the 170s for this fight, and Mayweather only 150, I think that’s going to cause Mayweather Jr. to focus on getting the decision.

Mayweather vs. Canelo – My thoughts

canelo766By Dan Henderson: Since the fight was announced, I like many got excited by the prospect of what could potentially be a record breaking night for boxing. In a classic scenario we will see the the young pretender challenge the future hall of famer, it for me is an intriguing battle between a fighter with a love/hate relationship with the boxing world and a fighter carrying the hopes and dreams of an entire nation but who will come out on top? In this article I will try and break it down.

We will start with the challenger, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has on paper a very impressive record consisting of 42 wins 31 coming by way of stoppage 0 defeats and 1 draw but he has drawn a lot of criticism with regards to his opposition he has faced since becoming world champion. Mathew Hatton, Ryan Rhodes, Alfonso Gomez, Kermit Cintron, Shane Mosley and Josesito Lopez to name them all but he stepped up when he defeated Austin Trout in a WBA/WBC unification fight and it appears that this propelled him to his shot against Mayweather, I use the word appear because it would seem that it was more to do with his popularity amongst the pro boxing nation of Mexico but we’ll leave that for others to ponder.

Keith Thurman wants Broner, Mayweather, Canelo, more!

thurman11By Allan Fox: Newly crowned WBA interim welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (21-0, 19 KO’s) says he’s got some big names on his list that he wants to fight next. Instead of aiming low, Thurman is targeting WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Tim Bradley, Devon Alexander and Marcos Maidana.

Unfortunately, Thurman will have very little chance of fighting any of them next.

Thurman said on his twitter when asked who he wants to fight next, “Maidana, Mayweather, Bradley, Canelo, Alexander, any of them.”
