Canelo and Lara visit South Texas

canelo99By Marc Livitz reporting from San Antonio, TX. – Historic Market Square in downtown San Antonio is always a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. Fresh off yesterday’s public press conference in Los Angeles to promote their upcoming July 12 bout, Mexican boxing superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Cuban cum Houstonian Erislandy “American Dream” Lara visited the Alamo City this afternoon. Today’s presser was the second stop of the promotional tour which will move on to New York City and finally Puerto Rico.

Very few in the boxing world have in any way slighted Alvarez for the way he handled his first professional loss last September when he was taken to pugilistic school by the great Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Two months ago, Canelo (43-1-1, 31 KO’s) returned to the ring with a resounding cracker of a performance as he pummeled feared compatriot Alfredo “El Perro” Angulo en route to a tenth round TKO victory in Las Vegas.

Canelo: Maidana’s fighting style was a problem for Mayweather

mayweather521By Dan Ambrose: Former Floyd Mayweather Jr. victim, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, doesn’t seem to be agreeing with Mayweather’s excuse that he fought Marcos Maidana in the trenches on purpose last Saturday night in order to make it a fun fight for the boxing fans to witness at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather says he did it for the fans, but Canelo is under the belief that Mayweather simply couldn’t figure out Maidana’s fighting style until the second half of the fight.

Canelo thought that Maidana was ahead on the scorecards early on in the fight, but when Mayweather solved his style, he ended up falling behind and losing the fight.

Trout: Lara will confuse and outbox Canelo, and maybe get robbed

canelo88By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout sees Cuban Erislandy Lara (19-1-2) dominating Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (43-1-1, 31 KO’s) in their fight on July 12th, but then possibly getting robbed by the judges rather than getting the victory. Trout feels that Lara will beat Canelo the same way that Floyd Mayweather Jr. did in defeating him last September, but Trout still doubts whether Lara will be giving the victory over the much, much more popular 23-year-old Canelo.

Juan Manuel Lopez vs. Francisco Vargas on July 12th on Canelo-Lara card

lopez9By Dan Ambrose: #4 WBO super featherweight contender Juan Manuel Lopez (34-3, 31 KO’s) will be fighting #2 Francisco Vargas (19-0-1, 13 KO’s) in a WBO 130lb title eliminator bout on July 12th on the undercard of the Erislandy Lara vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Canelo vs. Lara 4-city press tour starts Tuesday, May 6th in Los Angeles, CA

canelo222By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA/WBC light middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s 4-city press tour with Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12 KO’s) will kickoff tomorrow [Tuesday, May 6th], in Los Angeles, California at the El Pueblo Historical Monument. From there, Canelo and Lara’s tour will travel to San Antonio, Texas on May 7th, New York City on May 8th, and then wrap up the tour on May 9th in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Canelo, 23, won’t be fighting for Lara’s WBA 154lb title, because Canelo doesn’t recognize Lara as the top WBA champion in that weight class. Floyd Mayweather Jr, who easily beat Canelo last September, is also one of the WBA junior middleweight champions and the guy that is considered to be the overall champ.

The Canelo-Lara fight will be taking place on July 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight will be televised on Showtime pay-per-view. Compared to Canelo’s previous fight against Alfredo Angulo, which took place last March, the Canelo vs. Lara fight is a much, much more worthy fight for PPV than the Canelo-Angulo mismatch.

Mayweather: Cotto and Canelo hit harder than Maidana

floyd0000By Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (46-0, 26 KO’s) did a good job of beating Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KO’s) by standing and trading shots last Saturday night to earn a tough 12 round majority decision in their Showtime pay-per-view televised fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. But after the fight, Mayweather had less than glowing words to say about the hard hitting Argentinian fighter.

Mayweather compared Maidana to a WWE professional wrestler at the post-fight press conference, and said that he had done a good job of kneeing him and holding and hitting. Mayweather also said that his previous opponents Miguel Cotto and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez hitter harder and were tougher than Maidana.

Erislandy Lara’s WBA title won’t be on line for Canelo fight

canelo66By Dan Ambrose: Erislandy Lara’s WBA junior middleweight title won’t be on the line for his fight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (43-1-1, 31 KO’s) on July 12th, according to Boxrec.com. Canelo has previously said that he wasn’t interested in fighting for Lara’s WBA title, because he feels that WBA Super World welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the real WBA 154lb champion, not Lara.

The World Boxing Association has two champions at 154, as well as at 112, 122, 126, 140, 168, and 175. It’s a way for the WBA to make more money in sanctioning feels by having multiple champions in the same weight classes.

Manny Pacquiao: Little Man Filling Big Shoes

pac3343By Jon Ingram: Manny Pacquiao is the only boxer in the history of the sport to win championship belts in 8 divisions. Let’s save the excuses of any catch weight argument’s that one may have for every professional boxer knows the stipulations of each fight before they sign the contract, do they not? There is news of Pacquiao being a “Little Man Filling Big Shoes” to possibly take on the much larger Saul “Canelo” Alvarez if he is to get past Lara in their upcoming fight.

A lot of fans, including trainers Floyd Sr, and Roger Mayweather have said that If Pacquiao wants to fight Floyd Jr, then he should beat Canelo first. Me personally, I feel that Manny would beat Canelo just as bad as Mayweather did, but that’s another argument though.
