Roach: Cotto-Canelo will take place in November

roach6By Dan Ambrose: WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto’s trainer Freddie Roach says that Cotto’s fight against former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) will be taking place in November, according to ESPN.

The contracts for the fight haven’t been completed as of yet, but Roach is still confident that the remaining items that need to be agreed on will get done so that the fight can go ahead as planned in November. The fight could take place at catch-weight of 156 of 157 instead of 155, which was the original number that Cotto was talking about wanting to do the fight at.

Canelo wants Cotto fight in Texas, not Las Vegas, NV

canelo681588By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) reportedly wants his fight against WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) to take place in Texas, where he’s got a tremendous following, rather than in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to Steve Kim.

The only way the 24-year-old Canelo is going to be able to get his fight against Cotto to take place in Texas is if the Puerto Rican star agrees to it. In other words, Canelo doesn’t have the negotiating muscle to force the venue on Cotto. If Canelo was negotiating with his past opponents Austin Trout, Erislandy Lara and Alfredo Angulo, he could tell them the fight was going to need to take place in Texas, and if they didn’t grant him his wish, he would just move on and find someone who would give him the green light.

Thus far, Cotto and Canelo haven’t agreed to take the fight with Golovkin. But even if they do agree, it doesn’t mean that they can’t vacate the title.

Cotto can’t beat Canelo without Roach, says Arum

arum55By Dan Ambrose: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum thinks that WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) can’t beat Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) without trainer Freddie Roach to get him ready for their fight on November 21st or 28th of this year.

Arum thinks that Roach’s training expertize gives Cotto a good chance in this fight. Without Roach, Arum sees Canelo dominating the fight. With Roach, and it’s a close fight that Cotto can win, says Arum.

canelo67By Dan Ambrose: The negotiations have been undercard between the promoters for WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, and thus far they’ve narrowed down two dates – November 21st or November 28th – for their mega-bout to take place on HBO pay-per-view, according to ESPN Deportes.

Canelo, 24, was hoping that the fight with Cotto would take place on September 12th, the Mexican Independence Day holiday weekend, but it looks like Canelo won’t be getting his way.

Sulaiman confident Cotto-Canelo will reach agreement, Golovkin to fight winner

cotto1111By Dan Ambrose: Despite the recent comments from Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s manager Eddy Reynoso about them having a plan-B and C if WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) fails to agree to fight the 24-year-old Canelo on the Mexican holiday on September 12th, World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman feels confident that Cotto and Canelo will reach an agreement for a mega-fight this year, with the winner then facing WBC interim middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in 2016.

Golovkin making a mistake of letting Cotto-Canelo fight take place if winner doesn’t agree to face him

1-golovkin3 (14)By Dan Ambrose: WBC interim middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0 30 KOs) is supposed to be fighting for the WBC middleweight title next against the current catch-weight belt holder Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs), but instead of Golovkin getting his mandatory shot, Cotto is looking to fight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez next, who doesn’t even fight officially in the middleweight division.

Canelo definitely fights more now at middleweight than he does at junior middleweight, but that’s unofficial and he still calls himself a junior middleweight, even though he stopped fighting in that weight division two years ago.

Canelo has plans B and C if Cotto fight fails to happen on September 12th, says Reynoso

canelo6900000By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA/WBC Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) and his manager Eddy Reynoso are insisting that they’ll be fighting on the Mexican Independence Day holiday on September 12th, with or without WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) in a fight that would be televised on HBO PPV. That’s the date that the 24-year-old Canelo wants, and if Cotto isn’t willing to agree to fight him on that date, Canelo and Reynoso will look to plans B or C.

In other words, Canelo seems to be coming from a place where he’s calling the shots by setting the boundaries for a fight between him and Cotto. If Cotto wants to fight him, he’ll have to agree to fight him on the Mexican Independence Day holiday on September 12th.

Cotto-Canelo: The “Catch-weight” Battle

cotto563By Reynaldo Sanchez: After WBC middleweight champion Miguel Angel Cotto dismantled Daniel Geale in 4th rounds last Saturday on June 6, all sources point to a match where the Puerto Rican, most likely will face the Mexican Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Speculations are already in place in which of them should be the “A” side of the event and of course, who should receive the largest part of the cake in “monetary terms”.

This fight has features that go beyond boxing and who could be the winner. First, we have the fact that a fighter such as Canelo Alvarez, who isn’t ranked in the WBC middleweight rankings will be disputing against the reigning champion (Cotto).
