Only Canelo can go 12 rounds with GGG

Image: Only Canelo can go 12 rounds with GGGBy Bob Smith: Though the upcoming bout between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto will be a good one, I think Cotto has the edge, mainly due to an excellent article here by one of my favorite authors.

The article enumerates the advantages of Cotto, which are pretty much everything other than youth and power.

Eubank Jr. wants Cotto, Canelo, Quillin and Jacobs

eubank56565By Scott Gilfoid: Not satisfied with name dropping IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s name, WBA interim 160lb champ Chris Eubank Jr. (20-1, 15 KOs) has now added the names of four more fighters to that list. The 26-year-old Eubank Jr now says he wants to share the ring with Miguel Cotto, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Peter Quillin and Daniel Jacobs within the next year or two, along with Golovkin.

That’s a pretty long list of fighters, and obviously the only way that Eubank Jr. will be able to fight all of them is if he wins all of his fights in the next two years. This means that Eubank Jr. will need to defeat #11 WBA Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan in their fight on December 12th, and then he’ll need to beat the winner of the Quillin vs. Jacobs fight.

Triple G’s Numbers 150k and Perfectly fine

1-GolovkinLemieux_HoganphotosBy Rick Jones III: The last 20 years boxing has been held by it’s throat by Floyd Mayweather Jr. The boxer that considers himself “The Greatest Of All Time,” had a real tight grip on the sport of boxing. The boxer then retired as of Sep 12th of 2015, which I have marked on my calendar the day boxing was reborn and possibly the best thing that has happen for the professional sport.

The pay-per-view numbers finally came out for the Gennady Golovkin – David Lemieux fight, which hit a little bit over 150,000 buys on HBO last Saturday night. So does that mean that the famous Triple G is not worthy of the throne Mayweather Jr. left behind? No…HELL NO! What this means is that the sport of boxing is actually level and balanced.

Canelo willing to try anything to beat Cotto

cotto-canelo-pr (4)By Dan Ambrose: WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) had better be prepared for anything when he faces former WBA/WBC 154lb champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) next month on 11/21, because the Mexican Canelo says he’s willing to take out all the stops to beat Cotto in their HBO PPV fight at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.

Canelo, 25, needs a win over Cotto to take his career to the next level right now, because his past performances against Floyd Mayweather Jr, Erislandy Lara and Austin Trout have stunted his growth as a star.

Cotto, 34, is near the end of his career, so a loss for him isn’t as bad. But a defeat for the red-haired Canelo would be disastrous.

“[I will do] whatever it takes. I’m ready to give whatever it takes in the ring to win this fight. I will go in there and give the best of myself to make sure that it’s my hand is raised on November 21st,” Canelo said via fighthype.com.

Canelo: I didn’t feel Golovkin’s power when I sparred him

1-CANELO ALVAREZ 01By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) says he didn’t feel IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s huge punching power during their sparring sessions five years ago when the two of them worked out in the gym.

Canelo notes that Golovkin was a strong fighter back then, but he didn’t feel the power that other’s claim that he has. Canelo figures that the reason why he didn’t feel Golovkin’s punching power because of his own power. I’m not sure if that has anything to do with it though. If a person has power, you should feel it whether you can punch hard yourself or not.

Arum doesn’t want Pacquiao to fight Canelo

pac006By Chris Williams: As I already predicted, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says he had talks with Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya about a fight between De La Hoya’s flagship fighter Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) and Arum’s No.1 gravy trainer fighter Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs).

Arum is saying he’s not recommending that the 5’6 ½” Pacquiao take the fight with the 5’9” Canelo because he would be giving away too much size if he took that fight. Arum thinks that it would be a risky fight for the 36-year-old Pacquiao because he would be giving away some size to the 25-year-old Canelo. But if you look back at Pacquiao’s history, he already fought some big guys in the past like Antonio Margarito in 2010 at a catch-weight handicap of 150lbs.

Canelo almost 168 at 30-day weigh-in

1-CANELO ALVAREZ 05By Dan Ambrose: In a sign that we could be seeing a heavy Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) on the night of his fight against WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs), Canelo weighed in at 167.8lbs for his World Boxing Council mandated 30-day weigh-in for his 155lb catch-weight fight next month on 11/21.

The maximum allowable limit was 176lbs, which could see Canelo eclipse on the night of the fight at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Cotto was the one who wanted the catch-weight at 155, but Canelo had no problems with it because he’s had his last three fights at the 155lb catch-weight.

Roach: Canelo is not a dedicated fighter

1-cotto-canelo-m (10)By Dan Ambrose: Freddie Roach, the trainer for WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs), says he’s seen how Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) trains and he feels that he’s not the most dedicated guy there is in the gym. Canelo, 25, trained for three fights in the past at Roach’s Wildcard Gym in Las Angeles, California.

During that time, Roach saw how Canelo went out his training at his gym, and needles to say, Roach wasn’t impressed with the effort that he put out. Canelo will be fighting Cotto next month on HBO pay-per-view from the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Sulaiman: Cotto-Canelo winner must face Golovkin

1-cotto-canelo-nyc (4)By Dan Ambrose: WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman says that the winner of the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Miguel Cotto fight will have to face WBC interim champ Gennady Golovkin. Whether they actually do so is another question. Cotto and Canelo have both seemed less than excited about fighting Golovkin when asked about it.

The rumored pay-per-view numbers for Golovkin’s fight against David Lemieux last Saturday night obviously won’t help matters. The Golovkin-Lemieux fight is rumored to have brought in only 125,000 pay-per-view buys on HBO.
