Khan will beat Canelo, says Adrien Broner

khan55By Allan Fox: WBA light welterweight champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner is predicting that Amir “King” Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) will be victorious in his fight three months from now against the younger, bigger and stronger WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) on May 7 on HBO pay-per-view from the T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Broner doesn’t say why he believes Khan will win the fight. You would have to imagine that the oddsmakers are going to be giving the 29-year-year-old British fighter very little chance of winning the fight.

Khan is going to have his work cut out for him in moving up from the welterweight division to face the heavier Canelo at middleweight. While Canelo will be spotting Canelo five pounds by facing him at a catch-weight of 155lbs, it matters little, because Canelo rehydrates well into the 170s and some think he’s now 180-pounder for his fights at middleweight.

Canelo vs. Khan: a genuine mismatch or casual fan’s dream fight?

khan3434By Gerardo Granados: It was announced all over internet earlier today that next May 7 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, former /IBFWBA light welterweight belt holder Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) will fight against the current 155 WBC belt holder Saul Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) on HBO pay-per-view from the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Not only Amir Khan should have fought against IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook next in a huge UK fight that Brook wanted to take place in the summer, but Alvarez should focus in getting ready to fight Gennady Golovkin next instead of hand pick opponents that do not represent a real challenge.

The other day, talking to a friend I told him that Golovkin might as well could get #1 WBC Sebastian Heiland next. The thing is we never considered an opponent below 160 for Gennady. However, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De la Hoya really dug deep in the 147 division and got a glass chin soft puncher for the 155 belt holder Canelo’s next fight.

Canelo to fight at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on 5/7

1-canelo-cotto-results (2)By Dan Ambrose: WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will be fighting at the new 20,000 seat T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 7, according to Fight News. Canelo’s promoters at Golden Boy Promotions have already booked the Arena. Whether Canelo can sellout the 20K arena will determine largely on the quality of the opponent for him.

If Canelo ends up facing the struggling Gabriel Rosado, who has won only once in his last six fights, then I think Canelo will be lucky if he can sell 5,000 tickets for that sick mismatch. But if Canelo fights someone that could potentially beat him like Jermall Charlo or Demetrius Andrade, then I think there’s a good chance that he can sellout the arena.

Hopkins: Canelo’s next fight to be announced very soon

1-canelo-cotto-results (13)By Dan Ambrose: Bernard Hopkins of Golden Boy Promotions says WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s next fight is expected to be announced very soon for his May 7 date on HBO pay-per-view. Hopkins isn’t ready to say who the 25-year-old Canelo’s next opponent is, but from the sounds of it, he seems to have a pretty good idea who he’ll be facing on that date.

The names that have been floated in the recent past are Gabriel Rosado and Vanes Martiroyan. Former world title challenger Willie Monroe Jr’s name has also been mentioned in the past, but it doesn’t look like he’s someone that Golden Boy considering for this fight.

Mosley: Canelo vs. Golovkin is an even fight

1-CANELO ALVAREZ 05By Dan Ambrose: 44-year-old Shane Mosley believes that WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) has the skills, speed and punching power to fight unbeaten Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) on even terms if/when the two of them face each other one of these days.

Mosley was soundly beaten by a 21-year-old Canelo four years ago in 2012 in losing by a 12 round unanimous decision by the scores of 119-109, 119-109 and 118-110. Mosley looked like a lightweight in the ring against a middleweight in that fight, and it’s not surprising that he lost by a one-sided fight.

Loeffler says Golovkin won’t negotiate with Canelo on weight for fight

Image: Loeffler says Golovkin won’t negotiate with Canelo on weight for fightBy Dan Ambrose: According to Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, his fighter IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) will not be negotiating with WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) about which weight the two of them will fight at later this year when/if their fight takes place.

Golovkin will fight at 160 without any catch-weights, period. If Canelo doesn’t want to fight Golovkin under those circumstances, then he can choose to vacate the title if he wants. But as for Golovkin fighting Canelo at a catch-weight handicap, Loeffler says that’s not going to happen.

Reynoso: Canelo-Cotto rematch will be on Canelo’s terms

canelo5666By Dan Ambrose: Eddy Reynoso, the manager for WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs), says that if Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs) is going to be getting a rematch, then it’s going to be on Canelo’s terms this time around. Canelo needs an opponent for his May 7th fight on HBO pay-per-view, and he needs someone with a big enough name to attract fans into purchasing the card.

A rematch against Cotto would be ideal for that date. However, Cotto could fight on June 4th, and in order for him to get a rematch with Canelo, he would need to agree to fighting on May 7th. Canelo plans to fight in Las Vegas, Nevada at the new Arena.

Mayweather: If Canelo gets out of line, I’ll beat him again

canelo7657(Canelo Alvarez seen here at the post-fight press conference after being beaten by Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013. Canelo doesn’t look like a happy camper, does he?) By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. took some big shots at Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya and his flagship fighter WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last Saturday night.

Mayweather says that De La Hoya is counting on Canelo on being his money fighter. However, if he gets too uppity, he’ll come back and beat him again like he did in their one-sided fight in 2013. Mayweather won that fight by an easy 12 round majority decision in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mayweather says he prefers to work with guys that are drug free like Richard Schaefer and Al Haymon. He likes them because they dress like men. Mayweather is obviously taking a shot at De La Hoya over the photos that leaked out years ago showing him wearing fishnet pantyhose.
