Hamed says Khan taking wrong fight by facing Canelo

Image: Hamed says Khan taking wrong fight by facing CaneloBy Jeff Aranow: Former world champion Naseem Hamed believes think Amir Khan is making a mistake by choosing to move up in weight two divisions to face WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on 5/7 on HBO PPV. Hamed says he thinks the better fight for Khan would have been for him to fight IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook instead of fighting a middleweight.

Hamed thinks that Khan could be hoping to gain an advantage potentially if Canelo has to drain himself a lot to make the 155lb catch-weight for their fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Haye: Khan beats Canelo on points

haye556666By Scott Gilfoid: Former two division world champion David Haye is picking Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) to defeat the bigger WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) on May 7. Haye says he saw both fighters side by side, and he said they were both of identical size.

Haye saw no difference in the size of the two fighters, and he believes that Canelo is basic and an easy style for Khan to defeat. Haye believes that with Khan moving up in weight from welterweight, his chin will be better because he won’t need to boil down as much to make weight like he was doing when he was at 147.

He feels that this is his moment to shine by beating the bigger fighter and becoming a star in the process.

Khan will be facing Canelo on May 7 on HBO pay-per-view. If everything goes right, Khan will be crowned the new WBC 160lb champion and he’ll be a star.

Canelo’s 5’9″ height comes into question

CaneloKhanLondonTour_Hoganphotos6(Photo credit: Martin McNeil – HoganPhotos/Golden Boy Promotions) By Dan Ambrose: Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is listed as being 5’9” by many boxing publications, but there have been some that have questioned the 25-year-old Canelo’s height ever since he fought the 5’8” Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013 and appeared no taller than him.

Earlier today in London, England, Canelo was photographed with his opponent Amir Khan ahead of their press conference in London this Monday.

When Khan and Canelo stood eye to eye for photographs, Canelo looked to be no taller than Khan. If anything, Canelo looked a little shorter than the 5′ 8½″ Khan.

Khan and Canelo will be fighting on HBO pay-per-view at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

With the attention their fight has received thus far, it won’t take much to boxing fans to purchase the fight. The Canelo-Khan fight has easily surpassed the Manny Pacquiao vs. Tim Bradley 3 fight attention in the media.

Mosley: Khan is making a mistake in bulking up

mosley100By Dan Ambrose: Former three division world champion Sugar Shane Mosley thinks Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) is going about it the wrong way in getting ready for his title shot against WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) on May 7 on HBO pay-per-view.

Khan, 29, has been bulking up since the 155lb catch-weight fight with the Mexican star Canelo was first announced several weeks ago for the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Khan proudly states that he’s going to be 165lbs by the time he finishes bulking up. Khan believes that the added weight will make him more competitive with Canelo, who might come into the fight in the 170s or 180s.

We’ll likely never know for sure if Canelo chooses not to be weighed by the HBO stage before he steps inside the ring against Khan. The best policy would be for Khan to assume that Canelo will be in the 180s, because he looked bigger than he’s ever looked before in his last fight in November against Miguel Cotto. Canelo’s previous high weight was 175, but he looked bigger than that against Cotto.

Will Khan face Golovkin if he gets past Canelo?

khan54By Scott Gilfoid: It’s understood by all that Britain’s Amir “King” Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) faces a huge uphill climb in his 155lb catch-weight title fight against the bigger, stronger, younger and some would say more talented WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) on May 7 on HBO pay-per-view from the T-Mobile Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Khan is expected to lose and lose badly to the heavier Canelo. Heck, even if Khan bulks up to the 170s and faces Canelo at the same weight, he’s still expected to get blasted to smithereens by the red-haired star. But, if Khan can get past Canelo, he’ll be the new WBC 160lb champion and he’ll be faced with the responsibility of facing the interim WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in his first defense of the title.

The big question is will Khan defend his WBC middleweight title against Golovkin or will he vacate the title and slink away off into the sunset. As much as I see Khan as a terribly fragile fighter in terms of his chin, I actually think he’ll take the fight with Golovkin.

De La Hoya thinks Canelo will be turned into a star after Khan fight

de la hoya84By Tim Fletcher: Oscar De La Hoya, the promoter for WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs), sees his next fight on HBO pay-per-view on May 7 as the fight that could turn him into a star in the United States.

Canelo will be fighting welterweight Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs), and it’s a fight that could bring in big pay-per-view numbers if everything goes well. De La Hoya and his promotional company Golden Boy believe the Canelo-Khan fight is going to bring in bigger numbers than the 900,000 buys Canelo’s last fight against Miguel Cotto brought in last November.

GGG’s priorities: Wade, Canelo-Khan winner & Saunders, says Loeffler

golovkinBy Dan Ambrose: It looks like 51-year-old Bernard Hopkins has been designated as a very low possibility for a potential future opponent for IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) in 2016. According to Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler, his main focus is his April 23 fight against his IBF mandatory challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs), and then the winner of the May 7 fight between WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Amir Khan, and then WBO 160lb champion Billy Joe Saunders.

If Golovkin can get past Wade, which would seem very likely, then he’ll look to fight the Canelo-Khan winner. Loeffler says the winner of that fight will be stripped of their WBC title by the World Boxing Council if they refuse to face GGG.
