Juan Manuel Lopez stops Rafael Marquez

By Sam Gregory: In the main event of the November 6th edition of Showtime championship boxing from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas undefeated southpaw Juan Manuel Lopez 29-0 with 26 KO’s defends his World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight title against Rafael Marquez 39-5 with 35 KO’s in a scheduled 12 round bout in the featherweight division.

From the opening bell Lopez came out as the aggressor landing solid right hooks; Marquez matched his opponents output of punches but Lopez landed the more accurate shots. Marquez had plenty of sting on his punches as evidenced by the early bruising on Lopez’ face and upper body.

Originally slated for September 18th the bout was put on hold due to an injury on a finger of Rafael Marquez’ right thumb, this fight is being hyped as a possible ‘fight of the year’ candidate and for good reason.

By Jim Dower: World Boxing Organization featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (29-0, 26 KO’s) will be making the second defense of his WBO title on November 6th against former two division world champion Rafael Marquez (39-5, 35 KO’s) at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Lopez, 27, will have the height, youth, and power advantage over the 35-year-old Marquez in this fight. Marquez, 5’5″, hasn’t been very active in the past two years after having three grueling fights with Israel Vazquez. They actually fought four times in the past two years, but Vazquez had nothing left the last time they fought in May due to an eye injury and was quickly stopped in the 3rd round by Marquez.

By Jason Kim: The mini-mega fight between World Boxing Organization featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (29-0, 26 KO’s) and former two division champion Rafael Marquez (39-5, 35 KO’s) is now scheduled for November 6th, at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to boxing news from Dan Rafael’s Twitter page. They were supposed to be fighting in September, but the 35-year-old Marquez injured his thumb while getting onto a bus in Mexico. This might be a good fight while it lasts.

The thumb injury, which occurred while Marquez was on a bus, will take approximately two months to heal. In the meantime, WBO featherweight champion Lopez will be looking for a replacement to step in for Marquez on the 18th of next month. Despite the Marquez vs. Lopez fight being an interesting one, there was little talk about the fight on the internet among boxing fans.
