By Dan Ambrose: Peter Quillin (31-0, 22 KOs) unexpectedly vacated his WBO middleweight title on Thursday after he’d earlier been given two extensions by the World Boxing Organization to sign for his November 1st title defense against mandatory challenger Matt Korobov.
A lot of boxing fans believe that Quillin and his adviser Al Haymon chose to relinquish the title due to the danger that Korobov presented to him. But Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya says that Quillin has his sights set on fighting WBA 160 pound champion Daniel Jacobs (28-1, 25 KOs) next fall at a still to be determined date and venue.
