Smith defeats Dodson, fails to impress

By Sean McDaniel: British super middleweight champion Paul Smith (29-1, 15 KO’s) had to fight hard to win an unimpressive 12 round unanimous decision on Friday night against Tony Dodson (24-6-1, 12 KO’s) at the Echo Arena, in Liverpool, England. The final judges’ scores were 117-112, 116-111 and 115-112, Smith, 27, was cut badly over his left eye after ramming heads with Dodson in the 1st round.

Then Paul Smith just piped Quigley on a spilt decision. Now Dodson is back for his title and a shot a European Champion Brian Magee.

Smith defeats Quigley, captures British super middleweight title

smith54345By William Mackay: Super middleweight Paul Smith (28-1, 15 KO’s) won a controversial 12 round split decision last night over champion Tony Quigley (13-2, 6 KO’s) to capture the BBBofC British super middleweight title at the Echo Arena, Liverpool, Merseyside. The final judges’ scores were 114-116 for Quigley and 116-113 and 116-112 for Smith. I personally had Quigley winning 117-111.

Paul Smith Destroys Matumla

smith4234664By Nate Anderson: Super middleweight Paul Smith (26-1, 15 KOs) stopped Tanzanian journeyman Rashid Matumla (38-11, 29 KOs) in the 2nd round on Saturday night to pick up the vacant WBA International super middleweight title at the M.E.N. Arena, in Manchester, Lancashire. Smith, 26, knocked Matumla down three times in the 2nd round of a one-sided fight. After the third knockdown, which was actually a result of a push, the referee Jose Ignacio Martinez stopped the bout at 2:35 of the round.
