By that point, the 7’2” Valuev will be 43-years-old and very likely too old to still compete at the same level he’s become used to in the last six years of his career.

Now “Dr. Ironfist” is toying with the idea of defending his title against Russian giant former World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev (50-2-1, 34 KO’s) in Kiev in 2012. The fight would coincide with Ukraine co-hosting the 2012 European Football Championships.

Vitali, 38, was previously offering the 36-year-old Valuev $2.5 million to fight him months ago. However, Valuev’s promoter Don King wanted to get $4 million for Valuev. Klitschko showed no interest in paying that. The next offer from Klitschko was $1.5 million. However, Valuev and his promoter haven’t gone for that deal either. Now it looks like Klitschko may have dropped it even further to $1.2 million.

By Jim Dower: Earlier today, former WBA heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev’s promoter sent out a press release, saying that they were accepting a $2.5 million offer for Valuev to fight World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko. However, Fightnews.com, is reporting that Klitschko manager Bernd Bonte says that was an old offer made eight months back and that the current offer is $1.5 million and has been for weeks. Bonte says that Valuev doesn’t have a lot of options available to him.

The winner of the fight will be the mandatory challenger for WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko. Valuev, 36, will likely take the fight with Solis because he wants a future good paying fight with Klitschko. However, Solis, 30, because of his hand speed and power is a really dangerous opponent for the aging Valuev.

The two fighters were in negotiations for a fight, but Valuev’s management wanted $4 million for the seven-foot Valuev to fight Klitschko. The manager for Klitschko Bernd Bonte said that the fight with Valuev is “dead.” Bonte also said “Promoter [Don] King is crazy. His demands for Valuev are not acceptable.” Initially, Klitschko officered the 36-year-old Valuev $1 million to fight him.

Klitschko and his team have offered Valuev an initial $1 million for the fight and then come up to $2 million after the first offer was rejected by Valuev’s promotional team. Valuev’s co-promoter Don King is asking for a 60-40 revenue split in Klitschko’s favor, which could amount to $4 million for Valuev if the fight makes $10 million like King thinks it will.
