By Jack Granard: When Adrien Broner (33-2, 24 KOs) burst onto the scene, many crowned him the heir to Floyd Mayweather’s crown. The first time I witnessed him fight against Gavin Rees (38-4-1, 19 KOs) he was already a two-weight world champion and he looked set for stardom. His performance displayed showmanship, speed and strength.

Mikkel Kessler making a comeback

By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-3, 35 KOs) is reportedly coming out of his 4-year retirement to take part in a tournament called “World Boxing Super Series,” according to Bt.dk. There is a press conference that is said to be taking place to discuss Kessler’s comeback.

With Kessler coming out of retirement, it’ll be interesting if this lures Carl Froch to come out of retirement to try and get a third fight with him. Froch would likely take boatloads of criticism if he faces Kessler a third time, because he’s not shown interest in facing unbeaten Gennady Golovkin despite the big money he could make in that fight.

Kessler could return to the ring for Ward or Froch fights, says Nelson

ward3432By Scott Gilfoid: The soon to be 36-year-old former WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-3, 35 KOs) is reportedly interested in returning to the boxing ring if he can get a big fight against either Andre Ward or Carl Froch to fight for their straps, according to Sky Sport’s Johnny Nelson.

Kessler recently stepped away from the sport after sitting idle for a year and a half after his loss to Froch in May of 2013.

“I spoke to him last week and as ever he was honest about it. There are only two names that will get him back in the ring and we all know who they are: Carl Froch and Andre Ward,” Nelson said via Skysports.com

Kessler vs. Ward: Sauerland to fight for Mikkel’s career against Andre

Kessler#14By Oliver Norager: Former WBC/WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-3, 35 KO’s) may have lived a short retirement after all. Rumors going on in Danish paper Ekstrabladet is that Kalle Sauerland, Kessler’s promoter, is in Los Angeles to get a fight for the Danish legend against his former conqueror André Ward (27-0, 14 KO’s) in Denmark.

Kessler announced a couple of days ago that his career was over and he was “mentally retired”, but if a fight against Ward or Carl Froch opened up for him, that would be a different situation.

Hearn says Golovkin, Hopkins and Kessler are potential opponents for Froch

froch563478By Scott Gilfoid: After sitting idle for the last eight months without fighting anyone, IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) said he would still sit and wait on a fight against former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in a bout that Froch is hoping can take place as early as the summer.

Chavez Jr is fighting on April 18th against Andrzej Fonfara and there are major questions whether the fight will take place or not, because his old promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank intends on getting an injunction to halt the fight from going forward because he says Chavez Jr still owes him one more fight on his contract with his company.

DeGale-Kessler possible for April

degale345By Gav Duthie: After accepting that he is highly unlikely to fight Carl Froch anytime soon James ‘Chunky’ DeGale is in negotiations with great Dane Mikkel Kessler on April 25 possibly at the O2 arena. As of yet it is unclear if this would be for the IBF world title but this seems unlikely. The International boxing federation made it clear they intended to impose DeGale on Froch as their mandatory challenger. Seeing as Froch has no intention of accepting the standard protocol would be to make the title vacant and match DeGale with his closest competitor.

IBF

Champion: Carl Froch
1. James DeGale
2. Andre Dirrell
3. Gilberto Ramirez
4. George Groves
5. Julius Jackson
