By Ivan Godfrey: It is being reported that 46 year-old actor Jamie Foxx has been cast to portray `Iron` Mike Tyson in a film adaptation of the former undisputed heavyweight champion`s life. Tyson appears very comfortable with the idea and even jokingly remarked that Foxx will need to start taking steroids in order to accurately portray the menacing stature that was Iron Mike in his prime.

Mike Tyson: It won’t be easy for Deontay Wilder to hit Bermane Stiverne

deontay6677By Scott Gilfoid: Mike Tyson says he thinks unbeaten heavyweight talent Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) will have problems landing his big power shots against WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KO’s) in their still unscheduled heavyweight clash this year. For some reason Tyson thinks the 6’2″ Stiverne is hard to hit despite the fact that he was nailed early and often by his last opponent Chris Arreola in their recent fight on May 10th.

Besides the elusiveness problem that Tyson thinks Stiverne presents, Tyson wants to see what happens when Deontay gets hit a lot. He thinks that it says a lot about a fighter in the amount of punishment they’re able to absorb.

wilder23 - CopyBy Scott Gilfoid: Earlier today, former heavyweight champion of the world Mike Tyson made a comment about unbeaten heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s), saying that he wants to see how the 6’7” Deontay will react when he faces someone that will punch him back. Deontay then fired back with some comments of his own, and this led to James Toney joining in by telling Deontay he was off base for returning fire on Tyson.

Mike Tyson said this about Deontay as quoted by Showtime: “We have to see what happens when he [Deontay] gets hit back. Anyone can knock someone out, even my 3-year-old son.”

Hughie Fury: I’ll beat Mike Tyson’s record to become the youngest heavyweight champion

fury640By Scott Gilfoid: 19-year-old heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (12-0, 7 KO’s) still believes that he’ll be breaking Mike Tyson’s record as the youngest heavyweight world champion of all-time. Mike Tyson was only 20 1/2 when he first captured a world title when he stopped WBC heavyweight champion Trevor Berbeck in the 2nd round back in 1986. Hughie just turned 19 last September.

What this means is that if the 6’6″ Hughie is to have any chance of breaking the record, he’ll need to fight for a world title by next year or early 2015. If he fails to do then Hughie won’t be breaking the record.

Mike Tyson was the marquee boxer in the mid to late 80’s. He had a great amateur career and after just eighteen months after turning professional, (at the tender age of 20) became the WBC world Heavyweight champion, in defeating Trevor Berbeck. Tyson then went on to Unify the division (and destroy in the 1st round) at the age of 22, the well respected Michael Spinks.

Deontay Wilder: I feel like I have better power than Mike Tyson

deontay11By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight Deontay Wilder (29-0, 29 KO’s) has been getting a lot of comparisons to former heavyweight great Mike Tyson with his incredible power, and with the fast start of his career in terms of consecutive knockouts.

Tyson started his career out by knocking out his first 19 opponents, which was obviously very impressive, but it pales in comparison to the 29 knockouts that Deontay has put together.

Deontay is heading for the world’s record of 44 consecutive knockouts, and it doesn’t look like he’s going to have many problems adding another 16 consecutive knockouts to eclipse that record by starting his career at 45-0, with 45 knockouts.

Tyson picks Mayweather to defeat Canelo

mayweather4532By Dan Ambrose: Another popular boxing figure is picking Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) to beat WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 26 KO’s) in their fight on September 14th. Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson believes Mayweather will come out on top in his match-up with the young but still very green 23-year-old Canelo Alvarez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Tyson told Dan Rafael of ESPN “It’s gonna be tough…I gotta go towards Floyd a little bit…we don’t know because Floyd is older. This guy [Canelo] is gonna hit him, but it’s just difficult to bet against Floyd…he’s been so superior over all the fighters during the duration of his career.”

Hughie Fury says he’ll beat Mike Tyson’s record as the youngest heavyweight world champion

fury333By Scott Gilfoid: 18-year-old heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (5-0, 4 KO’s) believes that he’s going to erase Mike Tyson’s record for being the youngest heavyweight world champion. Mike Tyson captured a world title for the first time at the age of 20-years-old in defeating WBC heavyweight champion Trevor Berbick by a 2nd round TKO on November 22nd, 1986.

Hughie said to Channel 5 last Saturday night “I will do it. I will beat Mike Tyson’s record. I’ll be the youngest heavyweight world champion.”

Well, Hughie better get a start on it then because he turns 19 this September. Mike Tyson was 20 years, 5 months when he beat Berbick in 1986 and he was 27-0. Tyson had faced MUCH better opposition in his first 27 fights than Hughie is being matched up against thus far.
