Price stops Skelton in 2nd round!

Image: Price stops Skelton in 2nd round!By Scott Gilfoid: British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price (15-0, 13 KO’s) added another easy KO to his resume tonight by stopping 45-year-old past his best Matt Skelton (28-7, 23 KO’s) in the 2nd round after knocking him to the canvas with two left hands to the body at the Aintree Equestrian Centre, Liverpool, Merseyside, United Kingdom. The body shots were key from Price, who didn’t look all that great despite having such an old fighter in with him.

Skelton smothered Price in the opening round, as he stayed close to him with head first charges forward. Price did land a nice right hand to the jaw in the opening round. However, Skelton took the shot well and was able to ride out the round without any further big blows from Price.

Price-Skelton tonight in sick mismatch

Image: Price-Skelton tonight in sick mismatchBy Scott Gilfoid: Another fight for British/Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price (14-0, 12 KO’s) and another old timer for him. Price faces 45-year-old Matt Skelton (28-6, 23 KO’s) tonight in Liverpool, UK in a really sick mismatch. I know how some boxing fans like to get on Deontay Wilder’s case for some of his mismatches, but this is far, far worse because Skelton doesn’t even possess the tools to make it an actual fight. This isn’t even sporting.

The only thing that is interesting about tonight’s fight is guessing which round Price will knock Skelton out. I say the 2nd round, possibly the 3rd if Price takes it easy on the old guy. But God, this is such a terrible fight. It reminds me of someone hunting with a big goose gun with all the geese trapped in a cage instead of being loose flying around. It’s not even interesting.

Weights: Price 250, Skelton 243

Image: Weights: Price 250, Skelton 243By Scott Gilfoid: Big 6’8″ British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price (14-0, 12 KO’s) successfully weighed in at 250 pounds for his mismatch against 45-year-old Matt Skelton (28-6, 23 KO’s) on Friday night at the Aintree Equestrian Centre, Liverpool, Merseyside, United Kingdom.

It’s not much of a fight to be honest, but this kind of par for the course for the 29-year-old Price because his promoter hasn’t been all that interested in putting him in with any talented heavyweights. right now, Price is going through the older heavyweights with 41-year-old Audley Harrison and now 45-year-old Skelton. I haven’t heard anything about 50-year-old Evander Holyfield being targeted next for Price, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets selected next.

Price v Skelton: How good of a match-up is this? A look at the facts

Image: Price v Skelton: How good of a match-up is this? A look at the factsby Mark Turley: Much vaunted British Heavyweight David Price (14-0) takes the next step on his pro Heavyweight journey tomorrow night with a match-up that has met with a great deal of criticism. After his one round demolition of Audley Harrison, two months ago, there were many who groaned when his next opponent was announced as the veteran, Matt Skelton (28-6) known as ‘The Bear’, another fading name of recent years. Comparisons have been unfairly drawn with Price’s great domestic rival, Tyson Fury, Britain’s other great-white-hope, who is facing off against seasoned American Kevin Johnson, in a WBC eliminator on Saturday.

The accusation is that Price’s promoter, Frank Maloney, is guilty of soft matchmaking, continuing to pad out his man’s record in pursuit of an eventual crack at the Klitschkos.

David Price needs to face better competition

Image: David Price needs to face better competitionBy John F. McKenna (McJack): British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price (14-0, 12 KO’s) is perhaps the most talented championship hopeful to come out of the British Isles in a number of years. At 6’8”, possessing a decent left jab and loads of power in his right hand Price could be a legitimate threat to end the Klitschko dominance in the heavyweight division.

Price is currently on a string of eight straight KO victories with none of those opponents lasting past the 7th round. His most notable victory thus far was an 82 second KO over badly faded former Olympic gold medalist Audley Harrison on October 13 in Liverpool. Price will next take on 45 year old Matt Skelton (63-8, 57 KO’s) on December 8 at the Aintree Racecourse, Merseyside in the UK.

David Price wants Chisora after Skelton bout

Image: David Price wants Chisora after Skelton boutBy Scott Gilfoid: British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price (14-0, 12 KO’s) is already looking past this Friday’s fight against 45-year-old Matt Skelton (28-6, 23 KO’s) to a bout that Price wants against former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Dereck Chisora (15-4, 9 KO’s) in 2013.

Price said to thesun.co.uk “Dereck is a fight that interests me for the simple reason that he is a good fighter.”

Price vs. Skelton & Fury vs. Johnson fight predictions

Image: Price vs. Skelton & Fury vs. Johnson fight predictionsBy Scott Gilfoid: We’ve got a couple of British heavyweight bouts coming up on Friday and Saturday this starting with an utterly dreadful mismatch between unbeaten British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price (14-0, 12 KO’s) against his 45-year-old opponent Matt Skelton (28-6, 23 KO’s) at the Aintree Equestrian Centre, Liverpool, Merseyside, United Kingdom.

Price, 29, has every advantage under the sun in this fight, and it’s just so terribly sad that Price is still being matched up against opposition like this at his age. 29 isn’t young, and there seems to be a problem with his promoter not stepping him up against quality opposition.

Price vs. Skelton on Friday

Image: Price vs. Skelton on FridayBy Scott Gilfoid: This Friday night British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion (14-0, 12 KO’s) has a sick mismatch against 45-year-old Matt Skelton (28-6, 23 KO’s) at the Aintree Equestrian Centre, Liverpool, Merseyside, United Kingdom.

This is a fight that the 29-year-old Price’s promoter set him up with, and I’m still trying to figure out the logic in it because I can’t see any other than having Price taking part in a stay busy fight against an older opponent with a recognizable name for the British boxing fans.

It’s not a fight where Price is going to get anything out of because Skelton is really old now and hasn’t faced a world class fighter for the past two since being stopped in the 4th round by Kubrat Pulev.

Skelton not much of a test for Price

Image: Skelton not much of a test for PriceBy Scott Gilfoid: 29-year-old British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price (14-0, 12 KO’s) is quick to point that he’s still learning and that he’s only had 14 fights when he hears criticism for why he’s fighting 45-year-old Matt Skelton (28-6, 23 KO’s) on November 30th.

That was a similar excuse that Price made for his last fight against 41-year-old Audley Harrison, who Price demolished in only round last Month. This was another “learning experience” for Price.

45-year-old Skelton has it tough against David Price

Image: 45-year-old Skelton has it tough against David PriceBy Scott Gilfoid: In a laughable fight, unbeaten British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price (14-0, 12 KO’s) will be battling 45-year-old Matt Skelton (28-6, 23 KO’s) at the end of this month on November 30th at the Aintree Equestrian Centre, Liverpool, Merseyside, United Kingdom.

I don’t know what the hangup is with the training wheels being kept on the 29-yar-old Price this long, but this is a classic waste of time fight for the former 2008 Olympic bronze medalist from Britain. There’s no real logic to keeping Price still fighting 2nd tier opposition at this advanced age. When a fighter is as old as Price they should have already been fighting quality top tier opposition a long time ago.
