News – Mayweather Sr. Points the Finger at Hatton and Beard

By William Mackay: Trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. fired off a salvo at Ricky Hatton and his assistant trainer Lee Beard for Ricky’s 2nd round KO loss to Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather Sr. hasn’t conversed with Hatton, 30, since the loss and appears that he never will at this point. Mayweather Sr. says that the problems in the Hatton camp were due to assistant trainer Beard conducting boxing training sessions with Hatton without Mayweather Sr. being present for the training.

Pacquiao Likely to Face Cotto Next: A risky and Pointless Fight For Manny

By Matt Stein: The word is that Manny Pacquiao will probably be facing Miguel Cotto next up rather than Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Shane Mosley. They’re all great fights, but it looks as if Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum prefers Cotto, perhaps because he also promotes him as well. However, the likely main reason is because Cotto is a fighter that will be there for Pacquiao. Cotto often goes right at his opponents and tries to take them out with body shots and rights to the head.

Can Hatton Be Salvaged?

By Manuel Perez: Ricky Hatton was once the best fighter in the light welterweight division and considered to be one of the top fighters in all boxing. It’s hard to say that now after Hatton was torn apart by Manny Pacquiao last week, dropped three times and knocked completely out. Some people are predicting that Hatton may retire from boxing after fighting one last time in Manchester.

Why Does Pacquiao Fight So Many Old and Shot Fighters?

By Manuel Perez: I don’t know what it is with Manny Pacquiao, but it seems like he’s been a beacon for old and shot fighters in the past few years and I wonder why Pacquiao seems to be selecting a lot of those types. Pacquiao started with Erik Morales, who was totally shot by the time that Pacquiao fought him for a third time. Pacquiao then went and fought a 2nd fight with Marco Antonio Barrera in 2007. Why would Pacquiao need to fight Barrera again when Pacquiao had already beaten him by an 11th round TKO in 2003?

Could the Hatton That Stopped Tszyu Have Beaten Pacquiao?

By Sean McDaniel: Many moons ago in 2005, Ricky Hatton pulled off arguably his biggest win of his boxing career in stopping light welterweight champion Kostya Tszyu in the 11th round in Manchester. In that fight, Hatton was in his prime, a nonstop punching machine with a sturdy chin and grappling skills second to none. At the start of the fight, Hatton was all over the 36-year-old Tszyu, smothering him, not giving the Russian champion any room to get off his punches.

One fighter that Roach has begun training in the past year is British lightweight Amir Khan, who Roach feels can be one of the pound-for-pound best boxers in two years.

Is Hatton Un-trainable At This Point in His Career?

By William Mackay: In looking at the results of Ricky Hatton’s recent fight with Manny Pacquiao, I’m starting to come to the conclusion that Hatton is an old dog that can’t learn new tricks and might beyond the point of being able to take training. Despite having one of the best trainers in boxing, Hatton failed to utilize much of anything that Mayweather Sr. was trying to teach Hatton in the ring, and because of that Hatton was destroyed by Pacquiao in two short brutal rounds last weekend.
