Santa Cruz vs. Frampton: Carl wants to show U.S fans his talent

frampton3

By Scott Gilfoid: Well, I must say it didn’t look great recently with Carl Frampton (22-0, 14 KOs) vacating his IBF and WBA super bantamweight titles rather than face his mandatory Guillermo Rigondeaux. That was seen as a major duck by Frampton in the eyes of a lot of people.

I guess Frampton had his reasons for giving up the belts and not taking on the highly talented Rigondeaux the way that the boxing community wanted him to. Frampton says he wants to show off his ability this month in his title challenge of WBA Super World featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (32-0-1, 18 KOs) in their fight on July 30 on Showtime Boxing from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Selby wants Santa Cruz-Frampton winner or Russell Jr.

selby45

By Scott Gilfoid: After milking his IBF title for the last two fights against lesser opposition, IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby (23-1, 8 KOs) has finally decided he wants to test himself against the best fighters in the featherweight division.

The 29-year-old Selby would like to fight the winner of next month’s clash between WBA Super World featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (32-0-1, 18 KOs) and Carl Frampton (22-0, 14 KOs), or face WBC featherweight champion Gary Russell Jr. (27-1, 16 KOs).

Selby believes if he beats the likes of Santa Cruz and Russell Jr., he’ll become a huge star in the U.S. I hate to break the news to Selby, but those guys aren’t huge stars in the U.S. I mean, Russell Jr. doesn’t have much of a fan base at all, period, from what I can see.

santa cruz

By Scott Gilfoid: WBA featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (32-0-1, 18 KOs) will be defending his title on July 30 on Showtime Championship Boxing from the beautiful Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The younger 27-year-old Santa Cruz has already spotted weakness in Frampton around the chin area. He questions Frampton’s punch resistance, and he plans on exposing that when the two of them get inside the ring next month on 7/30 in the United States.

Carl Frampton vs. Leo Santa Cruz on July 30 at Barclays Center

Image: Carl Frampton vs. Leo Santa Cruz on July 30 at Barclays CenterBy Scott Gilfoid: Carl Frampton (22-0, 14 KOs) will be moving up in weight in three months from now to take on unbeaten WBA World featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (32-0-1, 18 KOs) on July 30 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Carl FramptonBy Scott Gilfoid: Carl Frampton (22-0, 14 KOs) will be moving up in weight this summer to challenge WBA featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (32-0-1, 18 KOs) in New York. Frampton, 28, will be moving up in weight from the 122lb division and will possibly be leaving his IBF belt behind for good depending on his success.

This could prove to a step too far for the tiny 5’5” Frampton, as he’ll be giving up two and a half inches in height and a whopping seven inches in reach to the taller 5’7 ½” Santa Cruz in this fight.

Santa Cruz stops Martinez; Frampton next?

SantaCruzMartines-2By Michael Montero: Saturday night in Anaheim California, a reported crowd of 7,780 rowdy fans lit up the Honda Center in anticipation of the Showtime Championship Boxing doubleheader headlined by local favorite Leo Santa Cruz, defending his featherweight title against veteran Kiko Martinez of Spain. For Santa Cruz, it was his first assignment since defeating Abner Mares in the “battle of LA” last summer. And for the faded, battle-worn Martinez, he was facing the first world class opponent since his devastating KO loss to Scott Quigg last July in England.

These two went to work from the opening bell, and it didn’t take long for Santa Cruz to establish his dominance. Early in the first he dropped Martinez with a chopping overhand right that appeared to land on the back of the head.
