The last time that Santa Cruz fought Frampton last July, he was out his dad, and it was just him and his brother. Santa Cruz says he got his game plan confused with him not sure which plan to follow – his father or his brother’s plan.

Frampton and Santa Cruz on January 28 in Las Vegas

frampton

By Scott Gilfoid: Leo Santa Cruz will be getting his chance to avenge his loss to WBA Super World featherweight champion Carl Frampton on January 28 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is an ideal situation for Santa Cruz (32-1-1, 18 KOs), because the location of the rematch against the 29-year-old Frampton (23-0, 14 KOs) is a lot better than their previous fight last Summer on July 30, because it took place in New York at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. That fight took place in front of a large crowd of Frampton fans, who screamed their heads off from start to finish.

Frampton was interested in fighting a unification match against fellow Brit Lee Selby next, as he holds down the IBF featherweight strap. A fight between them would have been a big deal in the UK. However, Santa Cruz used his rematch clause to get a rematch with Frampton rather than letting him take off with his WBA title.

By Scott Gilfoid: Leo Santa Cruz is still upset about his crushing defeat at the hands of Carl Frampton (23-0, 14 KOs) on July 30 last month, and he’s having hard time with dealing with the setback for his career. Santa Cruz (32-1-1, 18 KOs) lost the fight by a 12 round majority decision by the scores 116-112 117-111, and 114-114. However, many boxing fans felt that Santa Cruz enough to retain his WBA Super World featherweight title.

They felt that at the very least, Santa Cruz should have been given a draw out of the fight, but certainly not a loss on his record. Frampton had the fans firmly on his side on the night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

By Scott Gilfoid: Carl Frampton won’t be able to fight a unification match against International Boxing Federation featherweight champion Lee Selby (23-1, 8 KOs) this year in his next fight no matter how much he wants to fight the 29-year-old. Frampton (23-0, 14 KOs) needs to fight a rematch against Leo Santa Cruz, who he beat last July at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Santa Cruz had a rematch clause in his contract with Frampton, so he’ll be getting the rematch that he badly wants. If not for the rematch clause, Frampton would likely move on and face Selby next and look to face Santa Cruz in a rematch next year.

Frampton wants Santa Cruz rematch

By Scott Gilfoid: Carl Frampton seems to be coming to his senses that the best thing he can do is give an immediate rematch with former World Boxing Association featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (32-1-1, 18 KOs) so that he can clear up the controversy that has spilled over from his highly questionable win over the talented Mexican American on July 30.

Frampton won the fight by a 12 round majority decision by the scores of 114-114, 117-111 and 116-112. However, the decision by the judges seems to run counter to the views of many boxing fans who saw the same fight, as many of them felt that Frampton didn’t do enough to deserve the win, and he certainly didn’t do enough to win the contest by the scores 117-111 and 116-112.

By Dan Ambrose: WBA featherweight champion Carl Frampton and his manager Barry McGuigan appear to be interested in facing the likes of IBF champion Lee Selby or WBC champion Gary Russell Jr. in a unification fight. Whether they’ll be able to take either of those fights will be learned soon. Frampton may need to fight an immediate rematch with Leo Santa Cruz (32-1-1, 18 KOs), because he reportedly had a rematch clause in his contract with Frampton for their fight last Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Frampton beat Santa Cruz by a 12 round majority decision to win his WBA title. I saw the Santa Cruz vs. Frampton fight twice now, and I gave Santa Cruz the win both times. I thought he did more than enough to earn the decision. I don’t know what fight the judges were watching, but it wasn’t the same one I saw. I had the champion Santa Cruz holding onto his belt.
