Khan vs. Peterson: Couldn’t a better opponent be found for Amir than this?

Image: Khan vs. Peterson: Couldn't a better opponent be found for Amir than this?By Dan Ambrose: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan’s next opponent is likely to be #6 WBA ranked Lamont Peterson (28-1-1, 14 KO’s), a fighter that hits about as hard as Paulie Malignaggi and is only slightly taller. Peterson, 26, is a controversial choice for Khan because Peterson failed to establish himself as the winner in his last fight against Victor Ortiz in December and was soundly beaten in one of the most lopsided 12 round decisions that you’re ever going to see against Timothy Bradley only a couple of fights ago in 2009.

Khan, 24, barely survived his last fight against Marcos Maidana after getting clipped in the 10th.

Why was Lamont Peterson chosen for Khan instead of Victor Ortiz?

Image: Why was Lamont Peterson chosen for Khan instead of Victor Ortiz?By William Mackay: I don’t understand why WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) will be fighting #6 ranked WBA contender Lamont Peterson (28-1-1, 14 KO’s) rather than #2 ranked contender Victor Ortiz (28-2-2, 22 KO’s) to fight on April 16th at the MEN Arena, in Manchester, England. How is that Peterson, weaker, ranked lower and who recently got stomped by Timothy Bradley, is getting the fight instead of Ortiz? As far as I can tell, Ortiz is more popular with boxing fans and is a much bigger puncher than the feather-fisted Peterson.

Amir Khan vs. Lamont Peterson on April 16th at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England – News

Image: Amir Khan vs. Lamont Peterson on April 16th at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England - NewsBy William Mackay: According to inside sources, World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan will be taking on #6 ranked World Boxing Association contender Lamont Peterson (28-1-1, 14 KO’s) on April 16th at the MEN Arena, in Manchester, England. The fight will be shown on Sky Sports. It’s a weird choice for Khan to make given that Peterson is ranked below #2 ranked Victor Ortiz, less popular than him and got what many people felt was a gift 10 round draw against Ortiz after getting knocked down twice in the fight.

If Khan beats Lamont Peterson on 4/16, Juan Manuel Marquez could be next

Image: If Khan beats Lamont Peterson on 4/16, Juan Manuel Marquez could be nextBy Michael Lieberman: Light hitting light welterweight contender Lamont Peterson (28-1-1, 14 KO’s) is looking like the next opponent for WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) on April 16th. If Khan defats Peterson, there’s talk of Khan facing the much smaller lightweight Juan Manuel Marquez. This is a fight that Khan was eager to make last year but Marquez wasn’t interested in the fight at that time. He is now. Marquez needs the bout with khan to get a good payday and also to show Manny Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum that he’s capable of beating bigger fighters.

Khan says he could face Lamont Peterson next – News

Image: Khan says he could face Lamont Peterson next – NewsBy William Mackay: Instead of facing the dangerous Breidis Prescott or Marcos Maidana in badly needed rematches, World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) says that he could be facing light welterweight contender Lamont Peterson (28-1-1, 14 KO’s) next in April 2011 in the UK. Frankly, that seems to be another one of Khan’s cherry picking fights because Peterson looked awful in his last fight against Victor Ortiz.

Ortiz and Peterson fight to a draw: Victor fails again

Image: Ortiz and Peterson fight to a draw: Victor fails againBy Francisco Hernandez: Last night at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas Victor Ortiz barely escaped a defeat. Ortiz fought Lamont Peterson and the fight ended in a draw. Although Lamont Peterson is a brave fighter he was there to be knocked out by Victor Ortiz. Victor had Lamont hurt but failed to finish him off, instead Ortiz made the mistake of dancing side to side and away from Lamont. Boxing fans were perplexed why Ortiz would dance away from Lamont when Ortiz clearly had Lamont on the brink of a knockout.

Khan-Maidana, Ortiz-Peterson: What Did Last Night Tell Us About the Light-Welterweight Division?

Image: Khan-Maidana, Ortiz-Peterson: What Did Last Night Tell Us About the Light-Welterweight Division?By Nick Bannister: What a night, and what a fight. Four of the top 10 light welterweights fight on the same card, and two of them engage in a definate fight of the year contender. If boxing keeps up the quality of both the matchups and the performances of the last 6 weeks, it certainly has a bright future. I feel genuiely privileged to have seen Khan-Maidana, and was certainly kept interested by Ortiz-Peterson. Having seen two excellent matchups, what do we now know about the fighters that we didn’t know before, and how has last night’s fights affected the overall picture at 140lbs?

Brandon Rios did it; can Victor Ortiz win against a Peterson?

Image: Brandon Rios did it; can Victor Ortiz win against a Peterson?By Francisco Hernandez: Trash talking Brandon Rios has been heard lately talking about how he wants to get in the ring with Victor Ortiz to beat the hell out of him. Brandon has made no secret of the hatred he harbors against Victor. Supposedly Robert Garcia brought both boys from Kansas to his gym at Oxnard California. Yet it was Victor Ortiz who got all the attention from the media and promoters, while Brandon Rios was relegated to the status of a shadow.
