The undefeated heavyweights, bright futures or inevitable declines?

fury43323By Scott Bells: It says a lot when promoters have to pad out fighters records to ensure they remain unbeaten simply due to the fact that the two who sit at the top of the tree (The Klitschkos) are so much better than the rest.

This is what, in my opinion, many promoters are doing as there is clearly a number of grades of fighters in the heavyweight division; some can make it to the top and others will not recover from the inevitable first career loss that most, if not all, will suffer to a Klitschko or a Haye type on the way through.
Let’s break them down…..

Peter Fury interview

By Dan Henderson:

Hi Peter, once again thanks for taking the time out to speak to me.

DH. First of all I must ask you if you can clarify the situation with Kubrat Pulev because I got a source who has told me that he is in negotiations with American Eddie Chambers so I just wanted to know if you knew anything?

Tyson Fury options: Pulev or Adamek

fury11By Daniel Mcglinchey: Unbeaten Heavyweight sensation Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) is set to be out again in the summer to continue his journey on the way to Heavyweight stardom.

According to his uncle and trainer Peter Fury his options are Kubrat Pulev (17-0, 9 KO’s) or Tomasz Adamek (48-2, 29 KO’s) for his next bout according to Peter Fury’s social media site. Peter also mentioned David Haye. However, Haye recently signed to fight 2nd tier Manuel Charr, so he’s out of the picture.

Either Adamek or Pulev as an opponent for Tyson would generate massive interest from boxing fans around the world because they are both legitimate and established world class fighters.

Tyson Fury to iron out mistakes against Pulev

fury14By Daniel Mcglinchey: Undefeated giant Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) is currently in negotiations with Kubrat Pulev (17-0, 9 KO’s) for a show down that will hopefully take place in the summer.

Fury put in a poor performance recently against former 2 time world cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham. Fury seemed to want to please the crowd by brawling rather than show case his boxing skills. He still knocked Steve out but it wasn’t the Tyson we are used to. Anyone who watched Tyson Fury’s match-up’s with his previous 3 opponents Martin Rogan, Vinny Maddalone and Kevin Johnson know that Tyson Fury is a far better boxer than he showed against Steve Cunningham, possibly due to the absence of his Uncle/Trainer Peter Fury who has transformed his career since taking over 15 months ago (4 months before the Martin Rogan fight.)

Fury now targeting Arreola-Stiverne winner instead of Pulev

fury5445By Scott Gilfoid: Irish heavyweight Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) says he’s been told by the WBC president Jose Sulaiman that he has first dibs on the winner of the April 27th fight between Chris Arreola vs. Bermane Stiverne to fight to become the mandatory challenger for the WBC heavyweight title held by 41-year-old Vitali Klitschko.

What’s new about this is that Fury had been talking about fighting unbeaten #1 IBF contender Kubrat Pulev to try and become the mandatory challenger for IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.

Kubrat Pulev willing to face Haye on June 29th in Manchester, UK

pulev5By Scott Gilfoid: David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) said recently that he wants to take on an unbeaten top 10 contender for his next fight on June 29th at the Manchester Arena. We’ve since heard that Haye’s management has contacted unbeaten Polish fringe contender Andrzej Wawrzyk (27-0, 13 KO’s) to be his next opponent for this fight date.

Kubrat Pulev (17-0, 9 KO’s) is very interested in facing Haye on June 29th, and I think he’s a much, much better fighter than Wawrzyk. Pulev has volunteered to take the fight and will likely have no problems with coming to the UK to face Haye in front of his British fans.

Kubrat Pulev one of the candidates for Haye’s next fight on June 29th

pulev56By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten #1 IBF Kubrat Pulev (17-0, 9 KO’s) is reportedly one of the fighters that has been contacted by David Haye’s team for a fight on June 29th at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK.

The 6’4 ½” Pulev is waiting for Tyson Fury to face Steve Cunningham this month on April 20th so that he can face the winner of that fight in an IBF heavyweight eliminator bout, but I’m sure that the 31-year-old Pulev would take the fight with Haye if it were offered to him.

Besides Pulev being under consideration for the Haye fight on June 29th, there is also Jovar Pudar, Vyacheslav Glazkow, Manuel Charr, Robert Helenius and Denis Boytsov. Charr, 28, is considered to be the #1 leading candidate to get the fight.

Fury: I’m beating Cunningham, Pulev and Wladimir

YouTube video
By Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated heavyweight contender Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) was recently building himself up at a recent press conference to promote his IBF eliminator for the #2 spot against former cruiserweight and now heavyweight fringe contender Steve Cunningham (25-5, 12 KO’s) on April 20th at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Fury says he and his cousin Hughie Fury are the best heavyweights in the division, and his promoter Mick Hennessey already sees them as better heavyweights than the Klitschkos.

Fury with excuse to bypass Pulev fight now by facing Tony Thompson

thompson32By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) may have found the perfect excuse to get out of what will be a dangerous fight for him against Kubrat Pulev later on in 2013 in an IBF heavyweight eliminator bout.

The thing that has changed this for Fury, and perhaps given him the excuse to get out of facing Pulev, is the news of 41-year-old Tony Thompson destroying David Price by a 2nd round last Saturday night. Thompson beat what many boxing fans feel is the best heavyweight in the UK, and beat him with ease.

Fury has since come out of the woodwork to say he wants to fight Thompson after Fury’s April 20th fight against former IBF cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham (25-5, 12 KO’s) at Madison Square Garden Theater, New York, New York, USA.

Fury-Cunningham winner to face Pulev in IBF heavyweight eliminator

pulev56By Steven Ocallaghan: On Saturday 20th of April in probably the famous garden since Eden, unbeaten heavyweight Tyson Fury 20-0 takes on American Steve “USS” Cunningham (25-5) at Madison Square Garden for the right to fight #1 IBF contender Kubrat Pulev 17-0 to be named mandatory challenger to IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitchko.

I fully expect Fury to beat Cunningham but it won’t be easy. Cunningham has lost 5 times, all on points except one when in a close fight it was stopped early by an accidental head-butt with Cunningham slightly down on the score cards.
