Fury Defeats Johnson but makes himself look ordinary

Image: Fury Defeats Johnson but makes himself look ordinaryBy Gari Jones: After a busy weekend of boxing and especially for myself I got a chance to watch finally a boxing match. It was the one I was hoping to see Tyson Fury W20, KO 14, L0, D0 v durable American Kevin Johnson W28, KO13,L3, D0.

I was not expecting anything other than a win for Tyson Fury. Having been given only three weeks’ notice to fight for what Channel 5 kept highlighting as a WBC Heavyweight Eliminator fight, Johnson looked in decent shape whilst Fury looked in his peak physical condition.

Price and Fury – “Everyone needs a nemesis!”

Image: Price and Fury – “Everyone needs a nemesis!”By Mark Turley: Britain’s top two heavyweights both came through their respective fights this weekend, to keep the tantalising prospect of a domestic showdown alive. In Belfast, Northern Ireland, Tyson Fury produced a controlled, if somewhat tedious performance to overcome Kevin ‘Kingpin’ Johnson, who, in all honesty, did very, very little for the entire contest. Having come in at 3 weeks notice, there were always questions regarding Johnson’s fitness and he simply did not have the tools or energy to get inside Fury’s reach and trouble the taller man. Most of the fight took place on the end of Fury’s jab and was not one that will live long in the memory.

Despite all of that, Fury, who has often fought recklessly in the past, at least looked fit for this fight and showed he is capable of sticking to a gameplan when needed. If the pre-fight hype was accurate, the victory has put Fury in line to face Vitali Klitschko for the WBC Title, assuming Klitschko doesn’t retire to concentrate on politics. If the fight happens, Klitschko’s advancing years give Fury some sort of chance, although he will need to fight with more fire than he did tonight. His punch resistance, untested by Johnson this evening, remains a concern.

Fury dominates Johnson, but shows little power

Image: Fury dominates Johnson, but shows little powerBy Scott Gilfoid: Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) showed tonight why he’ll never be able to beat the Klitshko brothers or the likes of Deontay Wilder with his slapping 12 round unanimous decision over (28-3-1, 13 KO’s) at the Odyssey Arena, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. The judges gave Fury the win by these wide scores: 119-110, 119-108 and 119-108.

Fury, 24, looked weak as heck and vulnerable on the rare occasions that Johnson would actually throw a punch. Luckily for Fury, Johnson didn’t throw many punches, as he just looked like an older fighter that didn’t have the ability to pull the trigger anymore. Johnson looked like a shell of his former self from the fighter that was beaten by WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko back in 2009.

Fury’s promoter: Vitali Klitschko is interested in facing Fury next

Image: Fury's promoter: Vitali Klitschko is interested in facing Fury nextBy Scott Gilfoid: Mick Hennessy, the promoter for undefeated #3 WBC heavyweight contender Tyson Fury (19-0, 14 KO’s), says that WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko wants to fight Fury next, but Hennessy isn’t sure if he’ll match Fury up with him or his brother Wladimir Klitschko. This is all so interesting.

I mean, Fury hasn’t even beaten his opponent for tonight Kevin Johnson (28-2-1, 13 KO’s) and here his promoter Hennessy is already setting up Fury’s next fight. I can see this exploding in Fury and Hennessy’s face.

Hennessy said to fightnews.com “I have spoken to Vitali’s people and they are very open to doing a fight with Tyson but there is also the option of fighting Wladimir and Tyson is up for fighting any of the brothers.”

Fury vs. Johnson tonight: Kevin’s going to end Tyson’s Klitschko dream

Image: Fury vs. Johnson tonight: Kevin's going to end Tyson's Klitschko dreamBy Scott Gilfoid: Tonight heavyweight contender Tyson Fury (19-0, 14 KO’s) will have to prove for the first time in his career that he’s got the talent to actually beat someone that can fight instead of the soft opposition that’s been put in the ring with him so that he pad his resume.

Fury, 24, will be facing easily the toughest opponent of his career tonight against American Kevin Johnson (28-2-1, 13 KO’s) Odyssey Arena, Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. This is the fight where Fury is going to have to prove that he’s as good as he says he is and I suspect he’s going to be found out to be an imposter by Johnson.

Weights: Fury 248, Johnson 240

YouTube video
By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight contender Tyson Fury (19-0, 14 KO’s) weighed in today for his bout against American former heavyweight title challenger Kevin Johnson (28-2-1, 13 KO’s) for Saturday’s fight at the Odyssey Arena, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. Fury weighed in at 248 pounds, and that’s in the general area that the 24-year-old Fury has been in for his last two fights.

Fury’s been on a health kick lately and he’s dropped a lot of the flab that he previously had stored around his waist.

Jeff Mayweather: I don’t see much in Tyson Fury; he’s uncoordinated

Image: Jeff Mayweather: I don't see much in Tyson Fury; he's uncoordinatedBy Scott Gilfoid: Jeff Mayweather, the trainer for Kevin Johnson (28-2-1, 13 KO’s), isn’t at all impressed with what he’s seen of unbeaten 6’9″ heavyweight contender Tyson Fury (19-0, 14 KO’s), and he doesn’t see what the fuss is about him. Mayweather thinks Fury is just uncoordinated heavyweight who wins on size alone, but who doesn’t have the skills to beat Johnson or the Klitschko brothers.

Mayweather had never seen Fury before until his fighter Johnson was selected to replace Denis Boytsov as the opponent to fight Fury, and he’s really disappointed in Fury’s ability.

Fury: Kevin Johnson’s a stepping stone for me; he’s a journeyman

Image: Fury: Kevin Johnson's a stepping stone for me; he's a journeymanBy Scott Gilfoid: Former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (19-0, 14 KO’s) doesn’t think much of his opponent Kevin Johnson (28-2-1, 13 KO’s), who Fury will be fighting on Saturday night at the Odyssey Arena, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. Despite Johnson having previously faced WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko in a title challenge in 2009, Fury sees Johnson as little more than a journeyman level fighter for him and a stepping stone to get to the next level.

Fury said this in his recent telephone conference call: “Kevin Johnson talks about knocking people out, but he has only 13 knockouts in 30 fights. So unless I’m delusional or he is, if he does come hard and tries to get me like he says he is going to have an early out by the fists of Fury. He’s not a man of his word, he can’t come and fight Tyson Fury because it’s an early Christmas present if he does. He’s a stepping stone.

Johnson: Fury is a feeble-handed guy

Image: Johnson: Fury is a feeble-handed guyBy Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight Kevin Johnson (28-2-1, 13 KO’s) has no worries about getting past unbeaten Tyson Fury (19-0, 14 KO’s) this Saturday night at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Johnson, 33, doesn’t see Fury as being in his class and he seems him as a weak puncher without the track record to beat him.

Johnson said in their telephone conference call “So my ‘A’ game will really kill this dude…This [Fury] is the most doofiest I’ve met in boxing. This is the most feeble-handed guy I’ve ever seen in boxing history…When the bell rings I’m going to go and get him.”

Fury-Johnson fight to be a WBC heavyweight eliminator

Image: Fury-Johnson fight to be a WBC heavyweight eliminatorBy Scott Gilfoid: The World Boxing Council has decided for whatever reason to make the Tyson Fury (19-0, 14 KO’s) vs. Kevin Johnson (28-2-1, 13 KO’s) to be a WBC heavyweight title eliminator with the winner of the fight to become the mandatory challenger for WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko.

I don’t think that was a good move by the WBC because this could set up a rematch between Johnson and Vitali, and we already saw Johnson get badly beaten by Vitali in 2009, and I don’t see anything changing in a second fight.
