Kell Brook passed up Tim Bradley fight to face Saldivia

Image: Kell Brook passed up Tim Bradley fight to face SaldiviaBy Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten British welterweight contender Kell Brook (28-0, 18 KO’s) says he was offered up a title shot against WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley, but instead of taking the title shot and the guaranteed payday that goes along with it, Brook opted for the much easier fight against little known #3 IBF contender Hector Saldivia (42-2, 32 KO’s) on October 13th in their IBF welterweight eliminator bout at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

I’m trying to understand this move by Brook because it just looks like he dodged a tougher fight to take an easy one against Saldivia, who is only ranked in the top 15 by one sanctioning body, the IBF, and arguably deserv3es to be ranked in the 2nd tier some place. Did Brook dodge a hard fight against Bradley in order to take an easy one against Saldivia? Why would Brook to that?

Kell Brook ready to prove he’s one of the best welterweights as he steps in against Saldivia

Image: Kell Brook ready to prove he’s one of the best welterweights as he steps in against SaldiviaBy Marcus Stewart: The clearly talented Kell Brook will be facing Hector Saldivia in October that’ll be able to give him a title shot against the winner of the Randall Bailey Vs Devon Alexander fight. It’s an opportunity that Brook has definitely deserved and I’m sure he’ll put on another great show to make sure that he goes another step closer to becoming the welterweight champion of the world.

He showed true heart determination skill and courage to overcome the one dimensional Carson Jones. Kell Brook landed the cleaner shots and Jones was simply trying to out muscle the talented Brit from the off. Kell Brook proved a lot in his last fight and showed to the world that he is without a doubt a force to be reckoned with.

Kell Brook looking to lock himself into a title fight with a win over Hector Saldivia

Image: Kell Brook looking to lock himself into a title fight with a win over Hector SaldiviaBy Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated welterweight contender Kell Brook (28-0, 18 KO’s) has a big opportunity to get himself a title shot in the near future if he can just get past Argentina’s Hector David Saldivia (41-2, 32 KO’s) next month in their IBF welterweight final eliminator bout at the Motorpoint Arena, Yorkshire, UK. Brook, 26, can lock himself into a shot against the winner of the October 20th fight between Randall Bailey and Devon Alexander. Whether Brook is actually ready for that fight is a whole different matter altogether.

Just because Brook wants to fight for the IBF title doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s ready to do. Looking at how badly he struggled in winning a controversial 12 round majority decision over Carson Jones last July, I’d say that Brook has no business fighting the Bailey-Alexander winner, not if he knows what’s good for him. Brook is another one of those fighters that has been matched way too carefully for way too many years and he’s now 26, and lacking in experience in a big way.

Arum considering Brook, Peterson, Guerrero and Provodnikov as potential opponents for Bradley’s next fight

Image: Arum considering Brook, Peterson, Guerrero and Provodnikov as potential opponents for Bradley's next fightBy Allan Fox: Bob Arum has four possible opponents that he’s picking from for his fighter WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley’s first defense of his title on December 15th. Lamont Peterson and Ruslan Provodnikov’s names have already been mentioned as potential options for Bradley. But now ESPN is reporting that unbeaten welterweight contender Kell Brook and WBC interim welterweight champion Robert Guerrero are also among the fighters that are being considered.

Bradley has already beaten Peterson in December 2009, so it’s not exactly an exciting option. However, Peterson has picked up the IBF light welterweight title, which obviously wouldn’t be on the line for the fight with Bradley because it would be for Bradley’s World Boxing Organization 147 pound title. Peterson defeated Amir Khan last December, and he’s now looked at a lot differently than before.

Hatton wants Khan and Brook

Image: Hatton wants Khan and BrookBy William Mackay: Former two division world champion Ricky Hatton has some ambitious goals for his comeback. He plans on fighting on November 24th, which will almost surely be an easy tune-up fight. But he’s interested in going after the big names such as Amir Khan and Kell Brook.

Hatton said to Sky Sports News “If I come back against a journeyman, I’m not going to fight for world titles. I need to come back against someone who is world ranked and who will put me in position to challenge for a world title. It will be a live opponent. There are British welterweight rivals in Amir Khan and Kell Brook, and I’d be a liar if I didn’t say I’d love a run at those two.”

Kell Brook needs to shine against Hector Saldivia

Image: Kell Brook needs to shine against Hector SaldiviaBy William Mackay: Having made an excuse in his last fight in barely beating Carson Jones by a 12 round majority decision last July, unbeaten welterweight contender Kell Brook (28-0, 18 KO’s) can’t come up with anymore predictable excuses for another poor performance when he meets Hector Saldivia (41-2, 32 KO’s) next month on October 20th in their IBF welterweight title eliminator match at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, UK.

Brook, 26, and his promoter Eddie Hearn, blamed Brook’s poor performance in the Jones fight on Brook not having had the proper conditioning going into that fight. He’s since got the right training team behind him and is both training hard and eating right to get into the best possible condition for the Saldivia fight.
