Mayweather Sr: Floyd whoops Golovkin, he’s slow!

1-02By Chris Williams: Trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. isn’t too impressed with IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) nor is he impressed with WBA “regular” welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (26-0, 21 KOs). Floyd Sr. says Golovkin is too slow, and that Mayweather Jr. would likely beat him with his style.

As for Thurman, Floyd Sr. thinks he telegraphs his punches, and he would be an easy opponent for Mayweather to beat. Floyd Sr. says Mayweather always beats fighters that telegraph their punches like Thurman. He sees Thurman as little more than a hard puncher without the skills to compete against Mayweather.

Thurman had recently mentioned Porter as one of the fighters that he’s interested in facing this year. Unfortunately, Ken Porter says he’s been unable to get in contact with Thurman when he’s attempted to call him.

Khan wants Thurman, Peterson or Garcia for next fight

khan677777777(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan appears to have finally come to terms with the fact that he won’t be fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September. Khan instead says he’s interested in fighting Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia or Lamont Peterson. Like always, Khan says he’ll leave it in hands of his adviser Al Haymon to pick out his next opponent.

Khan doesn’t say who Haymon is looking to find for him, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the above mentioned fighters are last on the list of fighters that he’s looking to match Khan against.

Thurman thinks Mayweather used Errol Spence to get him off his back

thurman333By Dan Ambrose: WBA “regular” welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) still believes WBA/WBC 147lb champion Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) put unbeaten hard hitting #8 WBA contender Errol Spence Jr. (17-0, 14 KOs) on him to get him to back off from badgering him to try and get a fight.

Despite Spence saying himself that he wants the Thurman fight because he sees him as a flawed fighter that he can beat, Thurman doesn’t believe that Spence is sincere about wanting to fight him. He thinks that the only reason why Spence is saying he wants to fight him is because his “Uncle Mayweather” put him up to it.

Mayweather talks Berto, Khan, Thurman & Spence

Floyd Mayweather(Photo credit: Esther Lin/SHOWTIME) By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) made it clear today at the kickoff press conference at the J.W. Marriott Los Angeles L.A. Live that his fight against Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KOs) on September 12th will be the last one of his long 19-year-old career. Mayweather says he values his health too much to continue on after this fight. He just walks to walk away after this fight, and he feel very satisfied with what he’s accomplished with his long career.

“I chose Berto because he’s very exciting. I’ve been getting backlash. No one is forced to buy the fight. Andre Berto is going to push Floyd Mayweather to the limit. Berto is a tough competitor. He’s a very tough guy, hungry. The difference between Berto and Manny Pacquiao is you guys put all the hype in Manny Pacquiao, that’s what the media did. This fight is a very interesting match-up. I said to myself who is always in an exciting fight? Who has fast hands? Who has always been in an exciting fight?”

Thurman pushing for Khan fight and getting ignored

thurman4By Dan Ambrose: While WBA “regular” welterweight champion Keith Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) has no interest in facing unbeaten #8 WBA contender Errol Spence (17-0, 14 KOs), because he doesn’t see him as experienced or popular enough to face, Thurman is being ignored in the same way by the more experienced and popular Amir Khan, who Thurman badly wants to fight. One of the excuses for why Thurman isn’t fighting Spence is because a fight against Khan would be a much bigger deal for Thurman than a match-up against Spence. The problem is there isn’t a fight for Thurman against Khan right now, and it doesn’t look like there’s going to be one happening any time soon.

“We can keep talking all day. I want to see some paperwork,” Thurman said via behindthegloves.com. “I want to see a contract. I want to hear a date. What do you think, Amir? Are you going to be ready in October, November? You want a Christmas present in December? You let me know.”

Keith Thurman blows a gasket at Errol Spence’s name being mentioned

thurman4444By Dan Ambrose: WBA “regular” welterweight champion Keith Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) got heated during an interview on Saturday at the mere mention of undefeated No.8 WBA 147lb contender Errol Spence (17-0, 14 KOs), who many boxing fans see as the future of the welterweight division.

Thurman got heated when asked if he was going to fight the talented 25-year-old Spence. Instead of saying that he’ll fight him, Thurman suggested that Spence should fight the Top Rank promoted Diego Chaves or fight two other guys that he’s beaten during his career. Thurman then said that he would negotiate to fight Spence if he could get a guarantee that he if wins, he’ll get a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr.
