The only Welterweight to beat Errol Spence Jr. is Keith Thurman

1-160414_Fights_4106By Jaime Ortega: Errol Spence Jr. surgically slewed Chris Algieri after a one sided beat-down. It was complete domination from start to end without much hope left for Chris, who after his loss should consider retirement – perhaps start another kickboxing career—boxing gave Chris enough chances.

Early in the fight Chris tried to use speed and pressure to counterbalance Errol’s tempo and accuracy to avoid an early knockout. Once Chris savored Errol’s power, his strategy busted into a nightmare without escape. Errol’s vicious and accurate body shots peppered Chris body slowing his pace and stamina till the KO inevitable came, with an already slayed Chris. Chris was out-boxed and never truly had the power to stop an elite champ like Errol, much less the boxing prowess.

Thurman vs. Porter set for June 25 at Barclays Center, Brooklyn, NY

Keith Thurman and Shawn PorterBy Dan Ambrose: It was learned today that the match-up between WBA welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) and former IBF welterweight champion “Showtime” Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) is set for June 25 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Porter vs. Thurman was supposed to have taken place last month on March 12, but Thurman postponed the fight after suffering an injury during an automobile accident last February. Thurman, 27, suffered a whip lash injury in the accident, and he complained of his shoulders and neck freezing up when he attempted to work out afterwards.

Thurman talks Pacquiao-Bradley 3 fight

thurman32 - CopyBy Chris Williams: WBA welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman believes that the main reason why boxing fans are interested in paying to see the third fight between Manny Pacquiao and Tim Bradley on April 9 is because the fans want to see how Bradley’s new trainer Teddy Atlas will have an impact on Bradley’s fighting style in this fight.

If not for Atlas, there would be no real reason for boxing fans to see the third fight between them because Pacquiao already proved that he’s the better fighter than Bradley in their first two fights.

Pacquiao was arguably robbed in the first fight, and then he avenged that loss with a clear 12 round decision win over Bradley in their second fight in 2014. So Thurman thinks that there’s no other real reason for fans to see the third Pacquiao-Bradley fight other than to see how Atlas improves Bradley’s fighting style if at all.

Danny Garcia could face Thurman-Porter winner

garcia#11By Dan Ambrose: Showtime vice president of sports Stephen Espinoza says he’s had discussions about the next fight for newly crowned WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia in the summer or fall of this year.

Garcia recently beat Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero by a 12 round unanimous decision to win the vacant WBC welterweight title last January. Espinoza says Danny Garcia will be keeping a close eye on the June 25th fight between WBA welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman and “Showtime” Shawn Porter, and he could potentially fight the winner of that contest in a unification fight.

“We’ve had some discussions about some possible match-ups for him,” Espinoza said of Garcia to Ringtv.com. “I think it’s looking like late summer, early fall and he’s really at the top of the division, so I know, having spoken to his team, I know he’ll be watching very closely the Thurman-Porter result with an eye on maybe taking on the winner of that.”

Thurman-Porter on June 25 on Showtime

thurman333By Dan Ambrose: The welterweight contest between WBA champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) and Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) has been given a new date of June 25 for Showtime Boxing. The co-feature bout has been upgraded with former three division world champion Abner Mares (29-2-1, 15 KOs) facing WBA World featherweight champion Cuellar (28-1, 21 KOs).

Hopefully the June 25 fight date will stick for this card, because it’ll depend on Thurman, who was injured in an automobile accident a couple of weeks ago and received a whiplash injury. Whether Thurman can fight on June 25 will depend his healing from the injury. That’s three months away.

Part of that time will involve Thurman training. He’s going to need to be healthy almost immediately for him to get ready for that fight. I wonder if he can do. For someone that was involved in a car accident, it might not be enough time for Thurman.

Porter will look for Danny Garcia fight if Thurman not available

porter6809By Dan Ambrose: Former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter and his trainer/father Kenny Porter are in a holding pattern right now waiting to see if/when WBA welterweight champion Keith “One Time’ Thurman is able to come back from his automobile accident in order to face them. Kenny Porter says they’ll wait until early June.

If Thurman still isn’t recovered from the whiplash injury he received, then they’ll look to move on and fight WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia for his title. Porter is ranked #4 with the WBA and #6 with the WBO.

However, he shares the same manager as Garcia in Al Haymon. It’s possible that Haymon could put a fight together between Porter and Garcia in the near future, as long as there isn’t any resistance from Garcia and his father/trainer Angel Garcia.

Thurman vs. Porter possible for June

thurman44By Dan Ambrose: Keith “One Time” Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) is expected to be back inside the ring by June, according to ESPN. Thurman, 27, is recovering from an automobile accident he was involved in a couple of weeks ago.

The injury caused Thurman’s March 12 fight against challenger Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) to be temporarily called off until later. Thurman suffered whiplash in the car accident. Once he does recover from the accident, then the fight will be rescheduled for the Mohegan Sun resort in Uncasville, Connecticut.

In the meantime, Porter will be taking part in an exhibition bout to stay busy, as he hasn’t fought since last year in June when he beat Adrien Broner.

Keith Thurman to be out 4 to 6 weeks, says Dibella

thurman444444By Jeff Aranow: Promoter Lou Dibella says WBA World welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) will need at least four to six weeks to rest from his injuries he suffered in an automobile accident last week. Thurman’s title defense against #4 WBA Shawn “Showtime” Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) will need to wait until they have a better idea of how much time it’s going to take for the 27-year-old Thurman to heal.

Thurman was supposed to be fighting Porter on March 12 on Showtime Championship Boxing at the Mohegan Sun Casino Resort in Uncasville, Connecticut. Thurman attempted to spar after his automobile accident, but his shoulders and neck gave him problems during the sparring session.

“He’ll probably be off four to six weeks. The fight will happen next when he’s healed and ready to go,” Dibella said to ESPN.com. “After sparring Saturday, his neck and shoulders locked up and he couldn’t move.
