The final judges’ scores were 114-113, 116-111 and 117-110. Gutknecht, 30, had a point deducted in the 9th round for pulling down on Braehmer’s head by referee Terry O’Connor. However, it immediately became clear that Braehmer was tired and was ducking his head down in a move that looked in appearances that he was trying to get points deducted from Gutknecht. It worked once, but O’Connor caught on to what Braehmer was doing and he stopped giving Gutknecht warnings.

Braehmer vs. Gutknecht tonight in Berlin

Braehmer_Gutknecht_1By Allan Fox: Former WBO light heavyweight champion Jurgen Braehmer (38-2, 30 KO’s) will be challenging EBU light heavyweight champion Eduard Gutknecht (24-1, 9 KO’s) at the Max Scheling Halle, Prenzlauer Berg, in Berlin, Germany.

Braehmer, 34, is looking to pick up Gutknecht’s European Boxing Union title and then use the victory to get in better position to fight for a world title. Ranked #2 WBO, #11 IBF, Braehmer could land a title shot against WBO champ Nathan Cleverly or IBF champion Tavoris Cloud in the near future if he can keep winning.

Beating the 30-year-old Gutknecht won’t be easy for Braehmer given that he’s not lost a fight I the last three years since he was beaten by super middleweight Robert Stieglitz by a 12 round unanimous decision in April 2010.

By Scott Gilfoid: Tonight’s card in Hamburg, Germany was a rather disappointing one due to the lack of competitive fights from the top to the very bottom of the card.
