Seth Mitchell exposed in loss to Banks

Image: Seth Mitchell exposed in loss to BanksBy Marcus Stewart: Previously undefeated heavyweight prospect Seth Mitchell was blown away last Saturday night against the tough Jonathan Banks. This didn’t surprise me considering his suspect chin, lack of defence and overall crudeness. Jonathan Banks deserved his win as he did an absolute demolition job on the overrated American.

Many, especially a certain someone, have been singing Mitchell’s praises, despite the fact that he got battered before against 3rd tier fighter Chazz Witherspoon. He took some hefty punches, hit the canvas and showed to many that he struggles to take a punch. This was officially exposed against Banks who completely destroyed him. I am happy for Banks considering he came from the Kronk gym and was able to dedicate his win to Emanuel Steward who in my eyes is levels higher than the overrated Freddie Roach who doesn’t teach his fighter defence, hence why Pacquiao and Khan took a lot of punches in their fights.

Broner, Froch, Bellew, Banks: What did we learn?

Image: Broner, Froch, Bellew, Banks: What did we learn?By Rusty Nate: Well after a wonderful weekend of fights what did we learn from it all? We’ll start at the bottom and work up……

Bellew Vs Bolonti – UD

I think this was an amazing fight. Not because it was full of knock downs or because they both went to out and out war but because it showed us a HUGE amount about the character of Tony Bellew.

Steward smiling down on Banks

Image: Steward smiling down on BanksBy John F. McKenna (McJack): In a display of guts and determination heavyweight Johnathan Banks (29-1-1, 19 KO’s) scored an impressive 2nd round TKO over highly touted Seth Mitchell (25-1-1, 19 KO’s) on Saturday night at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Banks had a game plan which called for him to stay in the pocket risking a KO by the power punching “Mayhem” Mitchell. After Mitchell missed with one of his power punches, Banks launched a power punch of his own and it was timed perfectly.

Johnathan nailed the aggressive Mitchell with a counter right hook which landed on the button. Banks knew he had hurt his larger and stronger opponent and wasted no time following up on his advantage. He landed a series of rights and lefts which deposited Seth on the canvas for the first time in his career.

Mitchell went down three times in round two before the referee stopped the bout.

Mitchell looked good in the opening round using his jab and even hurt Banks with a big right hand. But then in the second round Mitchell went for a body shot, but Banks countered with a right hand of his own and from there let his hands go knocking Mitchell down three times.

Broner beats DeMarco; Banks destroys Mitchell

Image: Broner beats DeMarco; Banks destroys MitchellBy Eric Thomas: WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco (28-3-1, 21 KO’s) took a lot of heavy punishment in losing his title to lightweight newcomer Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) on Saturday night in a mostly one-sided fight on HBO at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA. DeMarco started off well but then fell apart under the power and the deadly accuracy of the 23-year-old Broner.

In the 8th, DeMarco took a knee when he was hit with a hard left hand from Broner that had a lot of power on it. By then DeMarco had already had about enough, as his face was cut and badly swollen from Broner’s shots.

Mitchell likely to overwhelm Banks

Image: Mitchell likely to overwhelm Banks(Photo: Tom Hogan – Hoganphotos/Golden Boy Promotions) By John F. McKenna (McJack): Undefeated American heavyweight Seth Mitchell (25-0, 19 KO’s) is likely to overwhelm his smaller less powerful opponent Johnathon Banks (28-1, 18 KO’s) when they square off tonight at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Mitchell weighed in at 242 pounds compared to Banks 218.5 pounds. The match will be carried by HBO at 10 pm ET and will co-feature the lightweight title bout between champion Antonio Demarco and Adrien Broner.

Banks has been on an emotional roller coaster following the recent death of his long time trainer and mentor Emanuel Steward. Johnathon had very little time to mourn Steward’s passing however, as he filled in for him in the corner for Wladimir Klitschko’s bout against Mariusz Wach last Saturday night. Banks then flew back to Detroit to attend Steward’s funeral on Tuesday.

Broner vs. DeMarco & Mitchell vs. Banks on Saturday on HBO

Image: Broner vs. DeMarco & Mitchell vs. Banks on Saturday on HBOBy Scott Gilfoid: This Saturday night on HBO in an card packed with two good fights, unbeaten Adrien Broner (24-0, 20 KO’s) will be looking to prove his worth against WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco (28-1-1, 18 KO’s). Also on the card will be unbeaten heavyweight contender Seth Mitchell (25-0-1, 19 KO’s) will be fighting Johnathon Banks (28-1-1, 18 KO’s) at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA.

Broner, 23, is the real story on this card because he’s on the verge of becoming a huge bankable pay per view star that could potentially rival the fading stars Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. Broner is pretty much the replacement for those guys and he could be the guy that be the biggest PPV attraction in the U.S in a very short period of time. There is perhaps one competitor and that’s WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez who could be an even bigger PPV star than Broner, but the jury is still out on Alvarez because his fights aren’t all that exiting due to his flat-footed, slow pace of fighting and his unassuming personality.

Image: Wladimir to go with Banks as his trainer((Picture credit: Public Address) By Jason Kim: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (58-3, 50 KO’s) has not surprisingly decided to go with his sparring partner Johnathon Banks to be his trainer from here on out, according to fightnews.com. Banks, only 30, is still an active fighter at heavyweight and has a fight lined up later this month on November 17th against unbeaten Seth Mitchell Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA.

Banks may not go far as a heavyweight contender, but he could pick up valuable experience as Wladimir’s trainer while as the same time making excellent money if Wladimir sticks it out as a fighter for another four or five years.
